Clarins was founded on the philosophy of having great communication with women, which is why Peachy Deegan is here. You have known for months how much we have loved Clarins.

The Multi-Active woman is energetic is active and full of life and on the go just like Peachy. She faces new challenges every day and is stressed and busy, but happy! She wants this mulit-acitve product to make her look her best (especially after the fabulous afternoon Annual Champagne Tasting at Christie's - what can we say- we have to critique for Champagne Wishes as well as Product Alert!).

Skin is more radiant, and signs of fatigue are reduced - so this multi-benefit product is fabulously notable, and could be accountable for 10% of business. We have rubbed it on the back of our hand, and so far, so good-we will keep you posted on further product testing!

The launch of Sports OPTYX by gruen at the 2009 US Open Nike Booth

We love our Mover and Shaker, Jon Gruen!

http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/08/movers-and-shakers-jon-gruen-optyx-by.html

OPTYX by gruen has once again revolutionized the eyewear industry with its latest venture: Sports OPTYX by gruen. Granting athletes a competitive edge – sharp, total vision – Sports OPTYX by gruen is a collaborative effort between PrescripSun™ by Carl Zeiss and Nike Vision Lens Technology, which has produced state-of-the-art athletic performance frames. Visitors to the 2009 U.S. Open will have the opportunity to test and purchase these innovative frames. While there, guests will be given a certificate for 20% off of prescription lenses— ideal for athletes who opt to purchase the high-tech frames but require them to be fit with customized prescription lenses, or those seeking a new pair of eyewear for their fall wardrobe. Certificate-holders will be able to redeem their savings at any OPTYX by gruen location in New York City, the Hamptons or Greenwich, CT.

Nike Max Optics delivers precise vision at all angles, while Nike Max Tints enhance critical visual details, providing the ideal amount of light and the optimal spectrum of color for the sport. In order to guarantee maximum performance, athletes must have a clear view in all directions— the Nike Max Optics’ patented performance design have been crafted to allow the clearest view over the widest angle, granting precise peripheral vision.

***
Nike Max Golf Tint

Grass reflects green and red, while golf balls reflect blue— the colors of these critical details transmit through the lens, reducing eye fatigue and improving visual clarity. Avid golfers, these glasses will assist in lowering your handicap— the contour of the green is easier to read, as the ball ‘pops’ against the grass, sand trap or sky.

Nike Max Hi-Vis Tint

In low light, significant details such as rocks, shadows and curves are difficult to see. As the human eye is highly sensitive to the color yellow, the lens allows more of it to transmit through the lens. The tint delivers increased contrast on a foggy morning, an overcast afternoon or while the sun is setting— perfect for cyclists.

Nike Max Speed Tint

A significant development for athletes such as long-distance runners, the tint is designed for endurance, reducing the glare that reflects off asphalt, relaxes eyes and enhances visual clarity.

Nike Max Polarized

When sunlight hits a flat, reflective surface, glare is generated. The Nike Max Polarized neutralizes the reflective light waves, granting a range of athletes that includes skiers and rowers the ability to see through glare.

Nike MaxAdapt

The photochromic lens darkens or lightens to adapt, automatically, to the level of ultraviolet light in the environment, from sunrise to sunset, sunny to cloudy.

When: Monday, August 31, 2009 to Sunday, September, 13, 2009

Whom You Know's Fabulous Panel Reviews Ageless, one of our Favorites!

Peachy Deegan has recommended Ageless, the first and best anti-aging perfume, and she liked it so much she wanted to see what her panel of experts thought too.

It is inspired by recent scientific discoveries and clinical trials, proven to make women smell 8 – 12 years younger. Ageless is a proprietary combination of aromatic essences, such as: Pink grapefruit, Mango, Pineapple, Leafy greens, Pomegranate, Jasmine, and Soft musk. Peachy Deegan loves the fresh scent and those around her do also!

Whom You Know previously covered Ageless:

http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/05/product-alert-ageless.html

Our Panel commented:

"I just love the everlasting, sophisticated aroma blends of a variety of fruits and florals with the soft musky lingering scents. It is not heavy or overpowering, just carefree and light. The sweet smell of vanilla is also detected as its "staying power" remains oh-so-"Ageless"ly on the skin! I will definitely choose to wear it again tomorrow! Thanks Harvey Prince for creating this fantasy concoction!"

"At the high price tag I was very curious about this perfume that promised to make me feel younger. The citrus scent was great and many complimented me on the scent. It is very light but lasted all day into the night. It is a delectable summer perfume and despite the high price I highly recommend it. It is nicely packaged and as much as I first doubted the ability to feel younger by a perfume, it did make me feel a teenager due to it's light fresh scent. I recommend this to anyone wanting to get a fun scent that makes heads turn!"

"I was very hesitant to believe that a perfume could make me smell younger, so I was excited to try Ageless Anti-Age Perfume. Wow, what a clean, fresh scent that made me feel more energized! I started using this perfume because I liked the scent, but after receiving many compliments from my male friends, I will use this everyday. It is both feminine and floral, with strong fruity notes. This is the perfect gift for all your girlfriends. This perfume makes me feel good which makes me feel younger. I think its working!"

"Even if Ageless does not make the man in my life think I am eight years younger, it makes me feel younger. And therefore beautiful. And therefore sexy. I love the scent. It is light and pungent without being overpowering. I intend to try it out tonight and see what happens!"

"Did you ever think it would be possible to defy age with perfume? Prepare to overcome with a spritz of Ageless. It really is a wonderful fragrance. It is a fruit and floral scent, which is perfect for this warmer weather. Regardless of whether or not you believe the scent can change peoples perception of your age, you will definitely get compliments on the fragrance. It is mild, but fresh smelling and that in itself makes me feel young and vibrant!"

"Harvey Prince seems to have captured and bottled the very essence of youth with their Ageless anti-age perfume! There was a fair amount of skepticism on my part in the beginning about a perfume that can allow you to be perceived as younger. In this case, I have to say that smelling is believing! Aside from all the 'age considerations' and the clinical trials and studies behind the creation of this perfume, I really have to say that I just love Ageless for the way it smells and
the mood it puts me in. It's definitely a vibrant, youthful, fresh and energetic scent. The blending of top notes of various fruits such as pink grapefruit, mango and apple, among others, plus mid notes of florals such as cherry blossom and peony, and then layered with dry notes of soft musk and vanilla is just sheer brilliance. I really like how it starts off fresh and fruity, then eventually fading and giving way to a very soft floral, and then a musky vanilla trails behind. Ageless has real staying power too. Even after a long hot shower, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the scent still softly lingered on my skin. So despite the slightly higher price tag for Ageless, I think it's worth every cent!"

Peachy Powders her nose with Clinique Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula

All weekend Peachy Deegan has been playing with the super new formula developed by Clinique- the Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula. Here at Whom You Know, we love the coverage of this spreadable powder that blends with little effort and makes us look great! It evened out Peachy's skin just like a foundation would. It is launching in September 2009 and we are pleased to tell you about it on the last day of August.

The container is just about the best we have seen in a powder-the silver top doesn't unscrew like many powders-it neatly flips up and even has a mirror inside. This is smarter Than Your Average Mineral Makeup…No Tapping and Buffing Required! We are also happy with the performance of the brush.

Did you know loose powders are more popular than ever? In fact, over the past several years loose powders have grown in popularity by almost 70% in the U.S. alone. And, now Clinique has created a next generation of loose powder with foundation coverage. Introducing NEW Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula, the companion to Clinique’s best-selling liquid foundation, Superbalanced Makeup.

This Makeup Is Smart

Utilizing “smart technology” this skin balancing powder simultaneously maintains skin’s moisture balance while controlling oil throughout the day, housed in a compact “shaver.” An encapsulated complex of moisturizing ingredients including Phytosqualane and Murumuru Butter are dispensed upon shaving to add comfort to dry areas of the face as needed. Oily areas and shine breakthrough are controlled throughout the day thanks to the mineral-rich formula which is sweat and humidity-resistant.

Additionally, broad spectrum SPF 15 sun protection is provided with 3:1 UVB/UVA protection, meaning UVB protection is three times proportional to UVA protection. This 3:1 ratio, already mandated in Europe, ensures UVA protection is provided. And, this all physical sunscreen is suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula also delivers antioxidant protection – Vitamins C and E protect the skin from environmental aggressors and free radical damage.

This Is No Average Loose Powder

This mineral infused product starts off as a compressed powder which is then released as loose powder by a new-to-Clinique compact “shaver.” Each calibrated turn of the shaver allows the perfect amount of fresh powder to be dispensed, providing a customizable application without any of the spills and lost product sometimes experienced with a traditional loose powder. And, a portable, anti-bacterial powder brush ensures the highest level of hygiene.

The Formula Does The Work For You

Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula doesn’t require all the work and buffing other mineral powder brands do to achieve a smooth, flawless application. To develop this powder, Clinique uses a unique processing machine which refines the powder into uniform platelets that are evenly distributed on the surface of the skin. This colour true finely milled powder provides an effortlessly even application and optimum adherence requiring less touch-ups throughout the day with its long-wear, 8 hour formula. Just simply shave the powder in a clock-wise direction for the desired amount. Apply powder with the conveniently housed, anti-bacterial brush. It’s that easy.

One Of The First To Use Minerals

Clinique has used minerals in a range of products since the brand’s inception. In fact, Blended Face Powder which contains minerals was created the very same year Clinique launched. Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula is Clinique’s newest mineral infused creation touting a mineral composition including
Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium and Zinc incorporated into the formula to promote healthy skin.

Allergy Tested. 100% Fragrance Free. Oil-Free. Ophthalmologist Tested.

Available in eight shades for women looking for sheer to medium coverage, Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula will be available September 2009 at Clinique counters nationwide and at www.clinique.com. Suggested retail price of $32.50 includes an anti-bacterial brush.

At the Met: Napoleon III and Paris

The Met is featuring a short but sweet exhibit highlighting the achievements of Napoleon III on the second floor. Along with master urban planner Georges-Eugene Haussmann, Napoleon III transformed Paris into the City of Light that we all know today. The exhibit features a prominent bust of Napoleon III and begins with background images of his family-he is the nephew of Napoleon. The photography is quite notable as it chronicles the transformation that this major world city experiences through photography, a new medium at the time.

Canal St. Martin 1860-62 by Franck, a silver print from a glass negative, was one of our favorite prints of this exhibit.

MOVERS AND SHAKERS: Michael Musto, Fabulous Columnist of "La Dolce Musto" of The Village Voice

Michael Musto writes the long running column “La Dolce Musto” in the Village Voice, spanning nightlife, fashion, and entertainment events, and all other aspects of New York culture. Musto has written the column since 1984, offering opinionated insight while breaking taboos and introducing readers to New York’s most exciting figures, from uptown socialites to downtown performance artists.

In addition, Musto writes “La Daily Musto,” the flashy blog on villagevoice.com, which deals in breaking news and irascible opinions on Manhattan clubs, celebrity antics, and personal plugs and admissions.

A UPI profile of Musto called him “one of the wittiest stylists” in the English language. And he has extended his prose into four books—“Downtown,” a 1986 non fiction look into Manhattan’s cultural underground, published by Vintage; “Manhattan on the Rocks,” a 1989 roman-a-clef about NYC’s various social scenes, published by Henry Holt; “La Dolce Musto: Writings By The World’s Most Outrageous Columnist,” published in 2007 by Avalon; and his upcoming “Fork on the Left, Knife in the Back,” another collection, this time with some original material, coming out on Alyson Books in February 2010.

Through the years, Musto has also written for publications as diverse as Vanity Fair, Styles of the Times, New York magazine, and Ocean Drive. He has breathlessly chronicled New York’s glitterati, and has even veered into chronicling the dark side, being instrumental in the coverage of the slaying of club kid Angel Melendez by promoter Michael Alig and his roommate in the mid 1990s.

Musto has long been a prominent face on television, commenting on a variety of pop culture topics with élan. He was a regular on E!’s “The Gossip Show” for six years and after that he cohosted “New York Central,” a Gotham-oriented magazine-format show on the Metro channel. He’s also popped up on VH1, MSNBC (“Countdown With Keith Olbermann”), and PBS (“Theater Talk,” on which he regularly discusses the current Broadway season).

While tirelessly covering bold faced names, Musto has attained a measure of celebrity himself. Most recently, his name came up on “Gossip Girl,” and he was a sit-down guest on “The Late, Late Show With Craig Ferguson.” In the future for Musto? More events, more chronicling, and more fabulousness. We are pleased to present him as our latest Mover and Shaker!

Peachy Deegan interviewed Michael Musto for Whom You Know.

Peachy Deegan: When you were growing up, did you aspire to be a columnist?
Michael Musto: I loved writing reviews of movies on little index cards, which were written only for me, so yes, the thought of being a columnist was tremendously exciting for me. I never thought it could be a reality, though!

What is your definition of fabulous?
Anyone or anything that has the courage of its own convictions. That radiates sexy energy by nature of being honest and daring and creative.

How has your column evolved since 1984?
The tone has pretty much stayed the same--it's personal and snarky, yet basically positive--but it's gotten longer! What was a third of a page is now a full page and a blog. Also, I've gotten greater access to celebrities and events through the years as the column has gained in reknown.

Who were the most interesting people in Manhattan in the 1980's?
The downtown club scene ruled, led by entrepreneurs like Rudolf Pieper, Steve Rubell, and Eric Goode, and club personalities like Dianne Brill and James St. James. Also on the scene, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, and Boy George were rising stars, and Stephen Sprouse and Keith Haring provided the aesthetic value. It was a dazzling time to be in the middle of the nocturnal underworld.

How about the 1990's?
There was still a strong club presence thanks to the Roxy (owned by Gene Dinino) and Jackie 60 (done at Chic Chi Valenti's and Johnny Dynell's club Mother). That was in the Meat Packing District bbefore it became sanitized.

How about this decade?
Paris Hilton, Lydia Hearst, the Misshapes, Murray Hill, Cazwell, Amanda Lepore, and many more.

Do you always want to write this column or do you have other ambitions also
that we don't know about?
I sing on the side and in the '80s I had a Motown cover band called the Must, but writing has always been my main ambition. Truth be told, I can barely carry a tune!

What are your strongest opinions regarding Manhattan and what do they stem
from?
I've always felt that it's the best place to be in the world because we initiate the trends, welcome all cultures, and are always at the core of excitement. Every other place is just a pretender.

Whom You Know just loves Craig Ferguson. What was he like when you met?
He was very welcoming and funny, and we had a nice time verbally sparring. We're so different, though at one point, he was a bouncer on the club scene, so our worlds did intersect.

What television shows have you enjoyed participating in the most and why?
I loved being on "The Gossip Show" because I got to develop my persona on camera and really let have a ball playing to the camera. I also love being on "Countdown" because Olbermann and I have a great rapport, and they really let me push envelopes and let it rip. But I love being in front of ANY camera!

What or who has had the most influence on your pursuit of excellence?
Other New York entertainment writers like Liz Smith, Rex Reed, John Simon, Cindy Adams, and Richard Johnson have inspired me. I always wanted to be like them.

What is your favorite place to be in Manhattan?
At whatever the hot event of the night is, whhether it be a movie premiere, fashion show, or after hours club.

What is your favorite shop in Manhattan?
H&M

What is your favorite drink?
Diet Coke.

What is your favorite restaurant in Manhattan?
The food court in Times Square. And Novita.

What is your favorite Manhattan book?
"Breakfast at Tiffany's"

What has been your best Manhattan athletic experience?
Bike riding everywhere I go. It's given me great thighs.

What is your favorite thing to do in Manhattan that you can do nowhere else?
People watching, especially in the Village at night. There's nothing like it--even on reality shows.

What has been your best Manhattan art or music experience?
Seeing amazing Broadway shows like the recent revivals of "Mary Stuart" and "Joe Turner's Come and Gone." I'm counting theater as "art," which it totally is.

What do you think is most underrated and overrated here?
The "nice" new developments are overrated because I never thought of NYC as a place where you should walk on a highline or look at a lovely fountain. I prefer the grit. Underrated are the divey bars where you can meet seemingly ordinary people who turn out to be quite extraordinary (if a bit drunk).

Other than Movers and Shakers of course, what is your favorite Whom You Know
column and what do you like about it?
Page Six remains the clearing house for all the fun, juicy stories about New York powers that be. It's my bible. But I read everything--in print AND online!

What else should Whom You Know readers know about you?
That, shockingly enough, I'm basically a nice guy from Brooklyn with good values. Really!

How would you like to be contacted by Whom You Know readers?
musto@villagevoice.com

Whom You Know's Mover and Shakers Suelyn and Julien Farel have been appointed the official stylist of the US Open 2009

THE JULIEN FAREL GROUP TAKES CENTER COURT AT THE 2009 US OPEN TO ENSURE TENNIS PLAYERS LOOK THEIR BEST

Whom You Know has featured Suelyn and Julien Farel as Movers and Shakers, and they were some of our very first when we were new:

http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/04/movers-and-shakers-suelyn-farel.html

http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/04/movers-and-shakers-julien-farel-owner.html

Whom You Know is pleased to inform you that Julien Farel and his team of beauty experts at the Julien Farel Group (605 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10022), have once again been appointed the US Open Hairstylists to the Players where they will be pampering the world’s greatest tennis players and coaches for the third year in a row. The salon, open from Saturday, August 29th to Sunday, September 13th, is located inside the Player Area of Arthur Ashe Stadium at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Julien Farel will offer a full range of services including haircuts, hair styling and conditioning, nail care and make-up applications. Farel and his talented team have created signature US Open styles that can bear the humidity and last through even the toughest matches. This year Farel will feature Hair Thread, a technique allowing hair to be tied in to place without the need for clips or pins. "The last thing a tennis player needs is hair falling in their face during a match," says Farel. "I see such beauty in this elite level of athleticism. The players can focus on their matches knowing that they look their very best, both on and off the court," says the longtime tennis fan.

The US Open salon has been a pre and post match relaxation spot for players such as Rafael Nadal, Martina Navratilova, Jelena Jankovic, Novak Djokovic, Daniela Hantuchova, Mary Joe Fernandez and Lindsay Davenport. The Julien Farel Salon has long been preferred by celebrities and distinguished CEOs; their expert advice and unique styles have graced the style pages of O Magazine, WWD Collections, New York Times, New York Post, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Allure, W Magazine, Harpers Bazaar, and In Touch Weekly to name a few. The full-service luxury salon, on New York’s Madison Avenue, offers clients revitalizing manicures, pedicures, exceptional cuts, premiere color applications and cleansing facials. Guests come to the Julien Farel Salon to escape the stress and commotion of New York City and leave feeling rejuvenated, relaxed and looking better than they could have imagined. The Julien Farel Group is also in the process of opening a new salon with The Capella Hotel Group in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, broadening the salon’s reach to a new market.

SOCIALITES, CELEBRITIES, FASHIONISTAS AND JUST ABOUT EVERYONE CONSIDER JULIEN FAREL THE PREMIERE STYLIST AND HIS MADISON AVENUE SALON THE EPITOME OF CHIC

New York, NY, August 2009 - "I tell my staff that clients must be treated like royalty," says salon owner and hairstylist Julien Farel (605 Madison Ave., New York, NY, 212.888.8988, www.julienfarel.com). Perhaps that's why in just a few years, since opening his own salon, his client roster reads like a who's who of the socialite and Hollywood scene. "Every woman and man that comes here wants to be pampered and look better than they could have imagined, whether they are walking the red carpet or strolling Central Park."

The debonair, exceptionally talented and France-born Farel began his career by cutting hair in the French Alps to finance his skiing habit. For ten years, Farel ascended the ranks at the iconic Jacques Dessange salon and was appointed to lead the New York Training School. Two years later, after having caught the eye of Frederic Fekkai, he was appointed the title of Cutting Designer at Fekkai's Chanel-owned salon. Farel led the training of Team Fekkai in both New York and Los Angeles. There he realized his dream of opening his own salon that catered to the client's every need, from taking his time with each client to hiring the most exclusive hair stylists, aestheticians and manicurists to serving up lunch from Bilboquet or Serafina on designer china to inviting them to relax on a patio lush with flowers in spring and summer time.

The Feng Shui design of the two-story space promotes positive energy flow that sustains each visitor long after they have left. To ensure that each client can take time out of their busy lives to become properly coiffed and energized, sleek computer stations with Internet connections are available, cappuccinos are brewed expertly upon request and gourmet lunch is served. Customers also have the option to book their appointments online. When they arrive at the salon, receptionists that speak many languages in order to accommodate jetsetters from around the globe, greet them.
Farel’s philosophy - "To create a world of beauty built upon consistency, luxury and fashion forward elegance." Two exceptionally talented friends from Frederic Fekkai shared that philosophy - Hair Designer Elvin Arvelo and Color Director Peter Oon. Together they set out to build a salon that nurtures the client from the inside out. The team has also styled the runways for designers including Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Tod's, and Douglas Hannant and their looks have graced the pages of countless fashion magazines.

Each client leaves the Julien Farel Salon and steps back onto the lively Madison Avenue with a renewed confidence and a look that reflects what they had only hoped would be possible.

La Mer introduces The Radiant Concealer SPF 25 and Whom You Know Recommends It

The Max Huber Research Labs designed La Mer’s gemstone-infused Skincolor Collection to help capture light and transfer its energy to the skin, continuously enhancing the benefits of La Mer skincare. Providing a translucent color palette, La Mer Skincolor allows the skin to be washed with light to invisibly and completely smooth away imperfections, revealing a naturally radiant finish. Today, the Max Huber Research Labs unveils the next generation of Skincolor: The Radiant Concealer SPF 25. Peachy Deegan has been using this over the past week and loves the amazing coverage it provides! The color makes her skin look flawless! (look, now she is telling you all her secrets-she doesn't really have flawless skin without this!) She looks so good not only transfers the light's energy to the skin, it gives you energy because you draw on how great you look!

This lightweight cream-to-powder concealer was formulated to instantly camouflage and ease imperfections. Tourmaline and malachite gemstones capture light energy to instantly conceal dark circles and blemishes. The Radiant Concealer SPF 25 optically erases imperfections to create a smooth even finish, while complementing the benefits of The Eye Balm and The Eye Concentrate. We have not found a better concealer on the market than this at Whom You Know.

Precious marine and plant extracts help reduce the appearance of dark under eye circles, puffiness, and pores. Meanwhile, with use, visible redness and discoloration are diminished as a soothing chamomile extract and an Asian mushroom called Viapure Poria continuously calms and soothes the skin.

A unique polymer mesh technology delivers buildable, diaphanous layers to create a crease-resistant flexible/breathable application. Skin stays naturally flawless all day. Helps protect skin with SPF 25.

The Radiant Concealer SPF 25 is available in three scientifically engineered translucent full coverage, skin-perfecting, radiance-enhancing hues: Ivory, Beige, and Natural Warm.

The Radiant Concealer SPF 25. Suggested Retail $65

Our fabulous panel of women at Whom You Know commented on this new innovation by La Mer:

"La Mer comes through with another excellent product that was just recently added to their fine line of skincare and cosmetics. Upon hearing all the accolades about Creme de La Mer when it first came out, I decided I had to give it a try myself. And true to all the glowing testimonials out there, it did wonders in brightening & moisturizing my skin. The Radiant Concealer SPF 25 that just launched is a great complement to that line. A light layer of this concealer over the dark circles under my eyes and on my freckles left my skin with a glow and brightness that not only looked radiant, but it also evened out my skin tone. It imparted an overall healthier-looking complexion. All this is thanks to the tourmaline and malachite
gemstones that are part of the ingredients. This is a cream to powder formulation, but it always stayed slightly moist on my skin, without any drying, caking up or fading. A cute and nifty brush is provided with the concealer for easy application, but I find that like with most of La Mer's products, it's more effective to just use your fingers or hands to warm up ("emulsify") the product while applying it
to your skin. The line comes in three hues: light, medium and dark. To my surprise, my medium skin tone (I do have a light to medium tan) is best matched to the dark hue, which actually isn't very dark, so you may have to go up a shade. The concealer itself is packaged in a sleek white square compact that's very convenient for toting around and it looks pretty too. Looks like La Mer's come out with another winning addition to their already iconic line of products!"

"Due to stress, lack of sleep, and a long, long list of other factors, I need an array of items to keep my skin looking young, fresh, and smooth. LaMer concealer is my secret weapon. It wears all day without failing and captures the light hiding my blemishes & dark circles. Who wouldn't love the packaging? A classy white case which holds inside the LaMer branded compact. Although small in size, the mirror actually is very effective. It travels easily in my small purse. I never leave home without it. This is a product that no one can live without. Instant brightness on a dreary face."

This product is a winner according to Peachy Deegan and her panel and in these dreary weather days, La Mer's new concealer is just what we all need! Be sure to put this beauty staple in your purse, your makeup tray and everywhere you go!

The grants, totaling over $1.98 million fund investigation, prosecution, prevention, training, and technical assistance activities.

EXCLUSIVE BEAUTY MARKET RESEARCH & CONSUMER INSIGHT PRESENTED AT HBA GLOBAL EXPO

Trend Data from The NPD Group & HBA will Help Brand Manufacturers

Formulate Product Development Plans

(New York, NY, August 2009)—This September at HBA Global Expo, Karen Grant, the Global Beauty Industry Expert at The NPD Group will present a custom HBA Survey identifying key consumer findings on what is happening in the cosmetics, skincare and fragrance marketplace and its affect on product development plans. Her session is the kick-off to the Trends Conference taking place Tuesday, September 15th at the Javits Center in New York during HBA Global Expo & Conference, September 15-17. HBA is the largest product development event in the cosmetics, fragrance, personal care and well-being industries.

In this special session, Ms. Grant will provide an overview of the beauty industry and provide current data on how the economy has affected the beauty sector and consumer buying behavior. Also discussed will be what beauty channels have been impacted the most, and the difference ethnicity and geography may have on purchasing decisions and patterns.

She will then present exclusive HBA research that delves into who is currently using and not using beauty products including make-up, skin care and fragrance. The data will unveil how these findings differ by age, region, income and ethnic group. Compelling insight on why consumers have never used or stopped using beauty products in the past two years will also be discussed.

The HBA research will also analyze the length of time consumers will try a product before deciding if it is effective and their reasons for not purchasing the product again. The overall shopping experience will also come into play as well as what other products consumers buy when shopping for beauty.

“Now more than ever, companies need strategic insight on emerging market trends, brand and sector vulnerabilities, and new opportunities for growth. This custom HBA research will provide attendees with meaningful data that will help them compete during these challenging business times and provide a stronger foundation for future developments,” said Karen Grant, Vice President, NPD Beauty.

The Trends Conference at HBA will also have sessions on “How to Market the Recessionista" with leading experts from Bliss, Oasis Day Spa, Red Door Spa and CO Bigelow; “Inspirational Colors for 2010” with trend watchers from Pantone and Ampacet, and “How to Attract and Engage Beauty Customers During the Recession,” presented by Allure Magazine.

In addition to the Trends Conference, HBA will also provide educational programming tracks on Green Business, Private Label and CoPack, X-Ceuticals, and the HBA Marketing and Technical Conference. There will also be three workshops on Medical Sourcing; Anti-Aging & Stem Cells; and BioActives Influence on Skin Function & Appearance.

HBA Global Expo will open with a Keynote Address by organic and naturals pioneer and advocate, Horst Rechelbacher, Founder of Intelligent Nutrients and Aveda followed by a special presentation of the “Positively Beautiful” award by Lisa Price of Carol’s Daughter.

Complementing the educational agenda is an exhibit floor showcasing a full spectrum of products and services, including: private label, contract manufacturing, prestige and mass market packaging components, delivery systems, design houses, raw material and ingredient suppliers.

The HBA New Products Innovation and Innovating Trends Showcase by Mintel will highlight this year’s hottest announcements and products and the Beauty Innovations Theater will offer a full program of concise, ready-to-implement solutions. In addition, HBA attendees will be able to visit the Spa & Resort/Medical Aesthetics Expo taking place upstairs in the Galleria on September 15th & 16th. READ THIS: Some Like it Hot, The Official 50th Anniversary Companion by Laurence Maslon

“Nobody’s perfect!” goes the famous last line of Some Like it Hot. But Some Like It Hot: The Official 50th Anniversary Companion (Collins Design; on sale: September 23, 2009; Hardcover, $35.00; ISBN: 9780061761232) may be the perfect companion for fans of America’s funniest movie. Written by Laurence Maslon, Some Like It Hot details the complete history of the classic comedy, from its roots as an obscure 1951 German comedy, to its Hollywood conception in 1959, where director Billy Wilder cast the superb Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon and transposed the material to the Roaring Twenties.

Whom You Know recommends this coffee-table keeper; it will delight your guests just as much as it will you! The photography is amazing and the details are priceless. Even if you have just seen the movie once, the book will make you want to go back and watch it again with all of the interesting aspects it covers that you may not have known.

It is filled with photos that Peachy Deegan hasn't seen before, Production Scripts, background on the casting, and MGM in that era. Maslon takes an in-depth look at the creation and production of the movie, covering everything from the casting of its three stars, to the history of drag in cinema—including sketches from famed costume designer Orry-Kelly—to the stories behind the fabled Hotel Del Coronado where it was filmed. Provocative details regarding the indomitable Marilyn Monroe, from her pregnancy and breakdown during shooting, to her absences that cost United Artists and the Mirisch Company nearly $650,000, are sprinkled throughout the book.

For this 50th Anniversary companion, MGM gave Maslon full access to its vaults. Some Like It Hot contains over 150 stunning, full-page photographs, many of which have never been published. Also from the MGM archives:

selections from the original screenplay
a full chronological narrative of the creation and reception of the film.
studio memos and logs detailing Monroe’s absences and latenesses.
casting trivia―Frank Sinatra and Mitzi Gaynor were considered for the movie
The story of the Broadway musical version and the little-known 1961 television pilot
location shots from the Hotel Coronado in San Diego (doubling for Miami)
lyrics from the songs in the film, the Broadway and West End musical versions (one of which starred Tony Curtis)
Guest appearances from Arthur Miller, Al Capone, Edward G. Robinson, and Tom Hanks.

This beautiful companion to the beloved film is the perfect addition to the library of anyone who loves comedy, the 20s jazz scene, American film—or Marilyn Monroe.

About the author: Laurence Maslon is an associate arts professor at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He is an Emmy-nominated writer for the PBS documentary Make ‘Em Laugh: The Funny Business of America. With Michael Kantor, he wrote the companion volume to that series, as well as the Emmy-winning PBS series Broadway: The American Musical. Laurence is also the author of The Sound of Music Companion and The South Pacific Companion and the editor of the Library of America’s edition of George S. Kaufman’s comedies.

Peachy Picks Triangolo

Whom You Know first introduced you to Triangolo under Tasty Tidbits:

http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/08/tasty-tidbits-triangolo.html

We are pleased to announce that it has graduated to Peachy's Picks! The fabulous Italian/Croatian cuisine, the warm atmosphere and the overall level of service really impressed us. Renato Mioele is just about the most upbeat and enthusiastic restauranteur we have encountered and you will feel the same way about your dining experience. Our dining panel was really looking forward to Triangolo and we were not disappointed one bit! When you are at your office desk at 3pm and just dreaming about the smell, taste and texture of the bread brought to your table as you arrive at a restaurant, that bread in your afternoon daydream would be just as it is at Triangolo. It was toasty, fresh and lovely with olive oil.l Everything about our meal was absolutely delicious and they had us at the bruschetta:

Like every aspect of the dinner, the bruschetta was of the freshest ingredients. All evening we were graciously served by Angelo Gomez who recited the specials flawlessly. Not only was he well-spoken, but Triangolo gets points for fashion too-they have the waiters dressed in Ralph Lauren oxfords with the Triangolo emblem on them.

For appetizers, the Whom You Know dining panel began with four amazing choices: the Insalata di Mare (fresh seafood salad), the Insalata Caprese (Fresh Mozzarella, tomatoes and basil), the Carpaccio di Manzo (Beef Carpaccio, arrugola, parmigiano, oil and lemon) and the world-famous Crespolini di Formaggio (crepes filled wtih melted cheese and chopped prosciutto.) Peachy Deegan loved them all but was most impressed with the crepes-they just melted in our mouths and could not have been more perfect. Here is is:

For her entree, Peachy had the signature seafood dish: Tagliolini Frutti di Mare which is fresh squid ink pasta with a mix of seafood. Usually this is served with marinara but Peachy was in the mood for a garlic white wine sauce and the Triangolo delivered just perfectly:

The shrimp and the scallops were especially decadent and the fresh squid pasta an amazing accompaniment to the dish. It is the best squid pasta we have encountered in Manhattan! Also, it is an example of what you see consistently through Triangolo's menu: small details make a big difference in the combinations of items put together that make Triangolo's menu choices unique and spectacular in our city with many restaurants specializing in this cuisine.

The red wine served to Peachy - Montepulciano - was top-notch and went well with the whole meal. The desserts of hazelnut ice cream, flourless chocolate cake, tiramisu, and cheesecake completed our dining experience. Peachy Deegan love love loves dessert and if she had to pick just one, the chocolate cake was the one she would die for the most:

Surely you are about to pick up the phone and order for delivery (212 472 4488) by now, but while you are waiting for your dinner to arrive please read what the fabulous Whom You Know dining panel had to say.

Our dining panel of experts commented:

"When you first enter Triangolo, you are immediately welcomed by the very gracious owner, Renato (an extremely genuine & overall nice guy). Italian Chef / co-owner Franco Brunetti and owner/maitre’d Renato Mioele’s culinary philosophy is that dining should focus on delicious food in a warm comfortable setting with family, good friends and great affordable wine.

At our behest, Renato enthusiastically guided us through many of his recommendations (dishes which remind him of his roots in an Adriatic coastal town in Croatia). Overall, the food was wonderful; and service was attentive and impeccable. Triangolo felt like an extension of an Italian home – warm, inviting - with the added benefit of the wonderful service and attentiveness of the owner and staff who made sure our dinner flowed perfectly. At no time did I feel rushed. I was able to appreciate and savor each bite with our accompanying wine(s) (and of course, enjoy the company of my dining companions).

I knew we were off to a good start when I took my first bite into the mouthwatering bruschetta (perfectly toasted country Italian bread, fresh ripe tomatoes and perfectly balanced with extra virgin olive oil), one of several appetizers that our group shared. Crisp, delicious and perfectly balanced.

The chilled Octopus Salad was cooked to perfection. The octopus was tender and flavorful, accented with potatoes, red onions and perfectly balanced with drizzled extra virgin olive oil. Although difficult to choose a favorite appetizer, this was absolutely mouthwatering (and left me wanting more although the portion was substantial)! I accompanied the octopus salad and other appetizers with a wonderful crisp light pinot grigio by the glass.

Appetizers shared:

We also shared a (1) chilled seafood salad (Insalata di Mare), (2) Beef carpaccio with arugola, parmigiano, oil and lemon (3) Crepes filled w/ melted cheese and chopped prosciutto and (4) fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil.

For the entrees I switched to red wine with a flavorful well rounded glass of Rossi di Montepulciano that worked very well with the Cornish Hen and Rotolo Montanaro.

Entrees shared:

(1)Taglioni Frutti di Mare (fresh squid ink pasta with mixed seafood and light marinara sauce). Renato graciously accommodated our request to substitute the marinara sauce with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, lemon and white wine.

(2)Rotolo Montanaro (rolled pasta filled w/ spinach, porcini lite pink sauce

(3)Grilled Striped Bass fillet w/ lemon oil and spinach _ It was done beautifully, moist and slightly charred, flaky and mildly sweet.

(4)Roasted Cornish Hen with spinach and potatoes – The hen was cooked perfectly, flavorful and moist

My Triangolo experience may be summed up as follows: they’ll make you feel right at home as you savor wonderfully fresh ingredients expertly prepared in this Italian restaurant. You’ll leave feeling satisfied and looking forward to your next visit."

"The atmosphere at Triangolo was cozy and relaxing, an inviting departure from my crazily busy lifestyle. I felt as if I was welcomed into owner Renato’s home, as it was interesting to hear about how Croatian and Italian dishes are very similar (Triangolo definitely won me over versus your everyday American-style Italian restaurant). I was impressed by the amount of seafood that was offered on the menu, and thoroughly enjoyed each dish I was able to sample. I would have to say that my favorite appetizer was the Crespolini de Formaggio, crepes filled with melted cheese and chopped prosciutto. It wasn’t your standard thin, soft crepe. The texture and size was more like a light and flaky empanada, but very filling. Another appetizer I really enjoyed was the Insalata di Mare, fresh seafood salad including shrimp and fresh squid.

When it came down to the entrée, I was very pleased with the special I had chosen – striped bass w/lemon over spinach. The bass was fresh and cooked perfectly, and the spinach was absolutely flavorful. My favorite dessert was the flourless chocolate cake. It was rich and indulgent – I most definitely got my chocolate fix. But you definitely can’t go wrong with any of the other desserts, from the hazelnut ice cream to tiramisu or cheesecake. The Upper East Side isn’t my neighborhood, but after sitting down and enjoying dinner and conversation for a few hours, it really felt like it was. I found myself wishing I really didn’t have to work the next day, as I could have easily stayed another few hours and enjoyed the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano red wine I was drinking. I feel like we are so prone to just eat our dinner and get up and go, but Triangolo is definitely also an after-dinner hangout, unwinding with friends and really enjoying the moment."

"For me a truly memorable restaurant is not just about the food, but about the overall experience: the chance to leave the troubles of the day behind and just relax in good company. Triangolo is a lovely neighborhood restaurant that respects this key aspect of dining out. Here, you could linger with friends for hours over your wine or cappuccino without feeling the pressure to clear out and make room for the next group. All hurried New Yorkers could benefit from an evening of relaxed dining at Triangolo! Triangolo serves delicious bread that is toasted and warm. We were presented with a Bruschetta that featured this bread with the simple ingredients of fresh tomatoes and basil and it was perfect. At the advice of our host, Renato, I had for my first course the Crespolini de Formaggio- oh my goodness it was delicious! This dish featured three crepes filled with cheese and prosciutto, and then baked with a parmesan topping that became crispy on top. Every bite was one to be slowly savored, and my dining companions agreed when they sampled the crepes too! I think I will need to go back soon and have these crepes again!

For my main course I was having trouble making a choice, and the kitchen was accommodating and gave me a split plate so that I could try more than one dish. The Rotolo Montanaro is considered Triangolo’s signature pasta dish. It is pasta generously filled with spinach and porcini in a very light pink sauce. What I appreciated about this was that it was not too salty or overly seasoned, rather the pasta showcased the fresh flavor of the spinach itself. For my second main dish I sampled one of the specials, a crispy grilled Cornish Hen with a Barolo wine sauce, accompanied by portobello mushrooms and spinach. If this special is available when you try Triangolo please try it! A glass of Montepulciano was the perfect wine to accompany my meal.

Our group feasted upon several desserts. For me the most memorable was an outstanding hazelnut ice cream, as well as the flourless chocolate cake. The chocolate cake had a glossy, smooth and decadent texture, with hints of both bitter and sweet to please the tongue. Renato tells us the restaurant has many local regulars, and we shared the dining space with couples, Upper East Side families with children, and also groups of friends enjoying the outdoor sidewalk tables. Triangolo is a restaurant with excellent food and hospitality that I would highly recommend!"

Top Teeth: What is tooth decay?

Tooth decay is a specific or generalized location on a tooth (either the fissures or on the sides of teeth) where much of the tooth’s mineral content has been dissolved away.

This creates a hole or “cavity” in the defected area. The acids that cause this type of tooth demineralization are produced by specific types of bacteria (streptococci and lactobacilli) and live in the dental plaque or calculus.

Just as we create waste products upon consumption of food and beverages, bacteria do likewise. The specific bacteria that cause tooth decay utilize sugars such as sucrose, glucose, fructose, lactose or cooked starches as their source of food. The waste products created from digestion of these sugars (such as lactic acid) cause the demineralization of tooth enamel and furthermore dentin.

An area of tooth decay may take as long as 5-7 years or as short as 6 months to dissolve the outer layer (enamel) of the tooth. If you have a “cavity”, this outer layer has collapsed producing a hole that cannot repair itself.

Depending on the extent of tooth destruction, various forms of treatment can be used to restore teeth to proper form, function and aesthetics, but there is no known method to regenerate large amounts of lost tooth structure. Regular dietary modifications, oral hygiene, are prophylactic measures uses to avoid tooth decay.

Chacha Peachy: Irish Dance with Niall O'Leary

Irish Dance: It is both a sport and an art-form: Niall O'Leary teaches and performs Irish Dance and also organizes events looking to showcase Irish culture: Irish Dance is great exercise and lots of fun! Niall points out that he is very fortunate to be working with some great people, both in his student and professional dance groups...and we're not just saying that because he's Peachy Deegan's Irish dance teacher! On St. Patrick's Day when you turn on the Today Show, it is Niall who is teaching Matt and Meredith how to dance!

The Niall O'Leary School of Irish Dance in New York City holds classes for all levels and all ages. Both teachers, Niall O'Leary and Louise Corrigan, are champion dancers from Ireland. The youngest student in the school is three years old. One of the oldest students, Lily Corcoran Pineiro, is celebrating 50 years as an Irish dancer this Fall!

"One of the challenges of teaching is to find out everyone's learning style and to encourage them to achieve more than they thought they could. We have banned the phrase 'I can't' in dance class" says Niall. Dancers also perform at events ranging from baby showers and community celebrations to major concerts.

The Niall O'Leary Irish Dance Troupe, a professional Irish dance company based in NYC, perform up and down the east coast at concerts, festivals, and corporate events. The dancers are all top performers:their high-energy, highly intricate footwork is also in demand internationally: the have also toured Japan and have further international trips in the works. They recently did a concert on the boardwalk in Atlantic City NJ and have a number of shows coming up in NYC in the Fall.

As he is also an architect, Niall is particularly interested in structure, rhythm, and interpreting space. "Every time you do a dance, you move through a space differently: if you find yourself in a beautiful space for the first time, dancing is a great way to help understand it."

If you are interested in checking out a performance or a class, go to www.nialloleary.com, you can send Niall an email about anything you cannot find there!

Big Apple Business: Fame Game

Fame Theory LLC was founded in 2005 and launched the website www.famegame.com in August 2007. Many sites bring you simple coverage of Manhattan social culture, but Fame Game makes it a science by using proprietary analytics to track, measure, and map New York’s dynamic social scene. Peachy Deegan thinks that if the New York Social Scene was like the SAT, this would be the Math section and Whom You Know would be the Verbal part! Famegame.com is to social capital what Bloomberg.com is to financial capital. Whether you’re a casual visitor or a voracious gawker, Fame Game allows you to see who’s who and how they stack up within the New York cultural economy.

The Fame Game algorithm, calculated each morning from the previous day's information, is comprised of event attendance, news mentions, connections to other people, and general trending (as discerned by google).

Fame Game is an entertainment network that tracks the most visible members of the cultural landscape; currently the site tracks over 200,000 profiles. The website creates public-facing ‘social network’ profiles for influential individuals and organizations based on event photography, news mentions, user generated content, and other offline and online data. Fame Game leverages the content, cultural data, and attention of these individuals and organizations to make high premium PR campaigns thrive online. Uniquely, they promote, track, and analyze the success of branded media campaigns using “social capital” performance metrics (online and offline data).

Fame Game plans to bring these partnerships and success to other influential urban centers in Miami and Los Angeles and they are also poised to build out a client back-end system that will make this data available on a customizable interface using a pay-for-subscription model. Fame Game's goal is to become the most visited online community about movers and shakers and the leading destination to promote society events, arts, culture, and philanthropy. Finally, Fame Game will be the primary resource for marketers seeking this demographic to target their online spends and track their offline event campaigns.

Their business model is based on both branded advertising and paid access to their data. They sell advertisements and branded event campaigns on the site as well as targeted local and national advertising campaigns through their weekly newsletter- Whom You Know readers can find the link to that at the end of this post to sign up. They also provide an event photography and promotion service. Finally, they sell access to their data and custom analytics reports to luxury brands and are currently working on building out an automated system to do this.Fame Game is the only site in the social networking category that is both exclusive and public. First mover advantage: They have accumulated 5+ years worth of data that can’t be replicated. There is currently no one in the marketplace who has a subscription-based product that tracks the PR markets.

Tatiana Platt, CEO, is the brains behind Fame Game. The Internet entrepreneur is a former Chief Trust Officer of AOL and a Mover and Shaker on Whom You Know. Included in her team are Jen Novak, CFO, Ryan Brown, COO, and Tim Schwartz, CTO.

Peachy Deegan interviewed Tatiana Platt for Big Apple Business. She has already been presented as one of our Movers and Shakers:

http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/08/movers-and-shakers-tatiana-s-platt.html

Peachy Deegan: How do you see Fame Game evolving in the future?
Tatiana Platt: With our expansion to other cities, Fame Game will continue to grow its footprint online and in the media. Just as Wikipedia transformed the way people look up information, Fame Game will become a national social register of sorts.

What criteria must "providers of information" meet to be considered for the mathematical calculation of one's Fame Game Statistic?
They must be "newsworthy", have an Internet presence, and be geographically pertinent. But not all providers are ranked the same. For example, a New York Times article mention has greater value than a mention on a society blog. We primarily look to circulation numbers/audience to assign weighting to news sources.

Are you adding more "providers of information"?
All the time. We are continually adding new feeds from newspapers, magazines, blogs, etc. We also continue to explore photography sources.

What is the benefit for one when he/she claims his/her profile on Fame Game?
When you claim your profile on Fame Game, you have the ability to supplement the information on your profile. You can add additional biographical information, upload photography content, add reference links, etc. Since Fame Game's profile pages are highly indexed, they often return in a person's first page of google search results. By adding to the information in the profile, you can supplement the picture that browsers might have of you.

Although it is fun to compare profiles against one another, how is it important in business?
The Compare Profiles feature is meant as a comparison tool, whether serious or in jest. By comparing two people, you can seek who has a higher attention rank, which translates to a higher profile on the media scene. This is of interest to brands that are seeking spokespeople to represent them with free product.

What percentage of people connected have been photographed together?
Not a number we have available. We would have to run a special data query to answer that.

They are located at:

West Broadway #195

New York, NY 10013

(646) 873-6854

We look forward to tracking their exponential progress!
