READ THIS: Cooking on the Light Side by Thienna Ho, Ph.D

Peachy Deegan does not cook that often, but when she does she likes to employ healthful recipes that balance her champagne and crabcake diet from covering soirees....and her panelists that are stars in the kitchen joined her for a look at Cooking on the Light Side.  You know we are all about looking beautiful as we close in on 1k product alerts, but part of looking great comes from what you put in your body.  Garbage in, garbage out we say so we were excited to take a look at this book!  The panel states:


How does a 97-pound woman break four Guinness World Records (1) Most Sumo Squats in One Hour (5,135 squats), 2) Longest Samson's Chair (static wall sit for 11 hours, 51 minutes, and 14 seconds), 3) Heaviest Weight Deadlifted in One Minute (3,864 pounds), and 4) Heaviest Weight Deadlifted in One Hour (104,863 pounds)) which require incredible physical strength and stamina?  Through changes in diet?  Surely that can't be!  Nevertheless, author and nutritional scientist Thienna Ho, Ph.D., managed to do just that!  In her new book, Cooking on the Light Side, Dr. Ho reveals her tips for creating a path the skin and body health through "simple yet powerful" dietary changes.  One of the biggest contributors to staying strong and youthful-looking, according to Dr. Ho, is eating sulfur-rich foods.  Sulfur helps to transport oxygen across cell membranes in the body, and also helps the body to use oxygen efficiently.  This, in turn, encourages the regeneration of cells required to keep skin and muscles healthy.  In this cookbook, Dr. Ho briefly but thoroughly explains the science behind her method and then delves into a guide to high-sulfur foods and hundreds of simple, delicious recipes that make high-sulfur eating as enjoyable and nutritious as possible.  Think that sounds boring?  How about a scrambled egg bagel sandwich for breakfast or a hearty vegetable beef and bean soup for lunch?  Chicken pot pie for dinner?  And lest you think that a healthy eating plan neglects desserts, be sure to check out her recipes for cream filled chocolate layer cake and apple pear pie with whipped cream - yum!!  Easy to read, easy to follow, and packed to the gills with yummy tips, Cooking on the Light Side is a must-read for anyone interested in living a healthier life without feeling deprived!


I expected just a cookbook filled with your typical low-calorie recipes but Cooking on the Light Side by Thienna Ho turned out to be so much more than that.  Thienna Ho, Ph.D, is a nutritional scientist, and holder of several other advanced degrees, who happened upon a healthier way of eating that not just is lighter, but helps restore skin and total body health, and the extreme vigor and vitality that goes with that, and in her case, allows her to accomplish some pretty amazing physical feats.  Thienna's philosophy and focus is to base our diets on foods that aren't just widely and erroneously known to be healthier , but to base it on foods that are rich in sulfur content.  Thienna expounds upon this in her first book, Eat Your Way to Lighter Skin, and found that not only did these foods clear her of chronic skin problems, but they led to such great overall wellbeing, stamina and health as to allow her to set 4 world records of the physical variety.   The recipes, along with many of the more exotic ingredients, come in photo illustrations, which is very helpful and tantalizing enough to make one want to try them.  Many of the recipes are more Asian-based, and while delicious on its own, can be tweaked to suit a more western diet.  I'm happy to see that more than a few of these recipes are similar to what's in my current diet, but I can definitely do better by incorporating even more of them into my repertoire.  This is a cookbook (and health guide!) that I'll refer to often in my quest for better eating habits and a healthier overall wellbeing.


Cooking on the Light Side is a wonderful and enlightening cookbook full of easy to make delicious recipes. The best part of this book is that all of the recipe’s outlined can help improve your skin and help you generally feel better. The photography is beautiful and inspiring. With one recipe per page you can follow the directions easily and they share all of the nutritional information at the top of each one. They meaning the nutritional scientist Thienna Ho, PH.D. The book is educational but not boring and I found myself getting into it far more than  I expected. And do not worry, not everything is made with just fruits and vegetables. Seafood, chicken, and even meatballs make the cut. I first tried the Ham and Artichoke Quiche which rocked my world. And then I made the Spaghetti and Meatballs with Watercress Sauce. Everything tastes really clean and flavorful and leaves a wonderful aftertaste.

This book will give you beautiful skin and helps you increase stamina. This is a healthy alternative you making yourself look and feel better.
