Men's Hairstyle Trends For Fall/Winter 2011

To Each, A Texture of His Own
Men’s Hairstyles for Fall/Winter 2011 Highlight a Natural Toussle

Hair at Men’s Fall/Winter Fashion Week 2011 was all about all about heavy fringe and rough texture, resulting in natural, wearable looks that highlighted individuality. Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a series of looks at the Alexander McQueen, Prada, Raf Simons, YSL, Versace, Bottega Venetta and Jil Sander shows that featured bigger volume and texture than we’ve seen in recent seasons.

The Prada hairstyle involved a classic fringe and Guido and his team took out the scissors to give each model a square shape haircut. They then blew the hair down and forward with Redken guts 10 volume spray foam to create texture and then used Redken For Men dishevel fiber cream while tousling the front to hold the style with a neat messy parting.

The Raf Simons and Jil Sander’s looks echoed the Prada look, but each had its own distinct finish depending on the amount of volume and the severity of the part. Guido again used Redken guts 10 volume spray foam to dry the hair and then finished with Redken fashion work 12 versatile working spray to shape and hold the final looks.

The hair at Yves Saint Laurent was all about “dry texture,” and it was blow-dried forward and then finished with Redken forceful 23 super strength finishing spray.

The tousled voluminous trend got even bigger at the Versace show, and Guido looked to the 1980’s for inspiration. He first pumped up the hair using what he calls “a powerful combination” of Redken aerate 08 bodifying cream mousse andRedken rootful 06 root lifting spray, blow dried into the hair, and held it all in place with Redken fashion work 12 versatile working spray.

The boys at Bottega Veneta were blown out using Redken guts 10 volume spray foam which gave the same great volume, but he added glamour to the look by using Redken For Men shine form defining wax to give it a polished look on top and hold a slight side part.

Lastly, the hair at Alexander McQueen matched this design house’s  military inspired collection and was also high on the shine. Guido kept the back and sides tight, gave each a serious side part, and used Redken For Men high rise hard waxto give both a shiny finish and just a little lift in front.

Jenny Balding, Redken For Men Consultant, tells us how to take these rough texturized looks from the runway and easily recreate with the right haircut and the correct products:: “Any of these looks can be created with product from one well designed haircut. Keep it shorter on the sides and the back. Leave the top longer with a slightly heavier fringe. Having it fairly texturized throughout will give maxium versatility. This way you can create smooth with a part to messing it up creating a rougher texture.”
