CEA Joins Global Tech Industry Calling for ITA Win in November

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® issued the following statement on behalf of CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro in response to today’s global tech industry statement in support of a November conclusion of the Information Technology Agreement (ITA) expansion:

“Eighty-two tech signatories from around the globe, representing tens of thousands of businesses, are rallying together to support trade negotiators from all member economies in the ITA. We have an opportunity now to come together, bridge gaps and finalize this negotiation so that a huge win may be announced in Beijing at the November APEC Leader’s meeting. Global tech leaders from China, the U.S., the EU and all across Asia and the world agree that the time is now. We all hope to celebrate the announcement of a successful ITA conclusion in China."

The ITA has not been updated since its creation 16 years ago. An expanded ITA could remove tariffs on an estimated additional $800 billion in information and communication technology trade globally. Updating the ITA to include modern tech products is vital in assuring that the agreement’s many benefits extend to the world’s citizens.
