If you are also suffering from Dancing With the Stars withdrawal, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment can remedy the situation quicker than you can say Argentine Tango!

For the artistically inclined especially, High Strung will delight all Manhattanites in particular because Manhattan itself is another character since it's the setting.  From the noisy neighbors to the subway, quintessential New York is thoughtfully portrayed, however, the subway platforms in the movie seem so much cleaner (also, there is no graffiti on cars that we have been on.)  We would like to live in such a world with a cleaner subway!  The aerial shots of the city throughout are particularly laudable.

Opening with a solemn yet powerful violin played by protagonist Johnny Blackwell (sounds great and much better than American men), who confronts beaucoup de adversity, High Strung sings the maxim that music is always there to inspire and energize.  It's a coming-of-age tale that we believe millenials will really like since it chronicles their age group, but it is not necessary to be 25 to like this film.

Ruby, an incredibly likable girl, attends MCA (Manhattan College of the Arts) which bears a striking resemblance to what we would imagine Juilliard would be like, but don't personally know.  (Peachy never wanted to apply to art schools; you all will be shocked to know her number one criteria for a college was its hockey team.)  You cannot tell at all that this is Keenan's first lead and we are happy with her acting.

Mover and Shaker Niall O'Leary should have been in the scene on the subway platform dancing to the Irish reel!  We absolutely expected to see him come around the corner.

We wonder how this movie was cast as some seem to be much better dancers than others while others seem to be much better actors than others; we thought about how the casting director and director arrived at their decisions.  Keenan is about the only one we see excelling artistically in balance with her acting skills.

We would have liked to have seen more diversity in age in the casting, and certainly for the extras as Manhattan is very age-diverse.  The character that plays the (noun that rhymes with itch and starts with a b) at MCA was played perfectly by that actress and is spot-on for those of that ilk in Manhattan.  Finally, f
or anyone that's ever been screwed by a lawyer, there's a situation in here that you will relate to!

High Strung is Recommended by Whom You Know!  It's a highly enjoyable feel-good movie perfect for a rainy day in New York, which we understand is tomorrow!

The worlds of classical dance and modern hip-hop music collide in the inspirational drama HIGH STRUNG, on DVD August 2, 2016 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Real-life ballet star Keenan Kampa (Russia’s world-famous Mariinsky Ballet) gives a breakout lead performance as a young dancer who partners up with a subway violinist, played by Nicholas Galitzine (Handsome Devil, The Beat Beneath My Feet), to enter a life-changing performing arts competition. Featuring high-energy dance sequences from famed choreographer Dave Scott (TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” Step Up 3D), and co-starring Golden Globe® winner Jane Seymour (TV’s “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,” Wedding Crashers), Sonoya Mizuno (upcoming La La Land, Ex Machina), Paul Freeman (Hot Fuzz, Raiders of the Lost Ark), and dancer/choreographer and YouTube sensation Ian Eastwood (Breaking Through), this exhilarating, family-friendly dance movie was released by The Orchard digitally and on demand earlier this year.

Synopsis: Ruby Adams (Kampa) is a dancer from the Midwest on scholarship, living her first day in New York City. Johnnie Blackwell (Galitzine) is a British musician playing for money in the subway tunnels. Ruby’s world is classical and disciplined; Johnnie’s is improvisational and street smart. When a hip-hop battle gone wrong throws these two artists together, they immediately clash but can’t deny it when sparks begin to fly. Their lives quickly get entangled in the pitfalls that come with competing in New York City. With the help of a dynamic dance crew called The SwitchSteps, Ruby and Johnnie must find a way to save Ruby’s scholarship and keep Johnnie from being deported. In an action-packed extravaganza combining cutting edge hip-hop with contemporary and classical dance, the two must navigate their opposing worlds and prepare for a competition where winning or losing will change their lives forever.

HIGH STRUNG was directed by Michael Damian (Flicka: Country Pride, Marley & Me: The Puppy Years) and co-written by Janeen Damian (A Royal Christmas, Marley & Me: The Puppy Years) & Michael Damian. It was produced by Michael Damian and Janeen Damian. Executive producers are JoJami Tyler, Eric Tyler and Alex Walton.

It has a run time of 96 minutes and is rated PG for some thematic elements and mild language.
