Nestled way downtown on Clinton Street in Manhattan, you will find Thelma on Clinton, a lovely American restaurant that we visited for the first time in 2016.  Owned by Melissa O'Donnell, who was not present at our scheduled meeting, Thelma on Clinton should be proud to have a bar manager who is as professional and interested in his vocation as Lennon Bergland, whom we worked with and were delighted to meet.  In the vast majority of restaurants we've reviewed we see few employees taking such pride in their work as Lennon did; we do see this every single time at any place of The Knightsbridge Restaurant Group in Washington, D.C. and occasionally in Manhattan.  We began with convincing House Pickled Mussels which arrive with sauce remoulade; they have sensational flavor and will certainly be a contrast to your standard mussel.  Their refreshing kick spells unique and creative.
We are advocates of mozzarella, and it is homemade at Thelma on Clinton.  The genius combination of plums and red onion works well with it as well as a touch of basil.
You'd be remiss to not try the beautifully roasted asparagus, which we believe is the pencil variety.  It's served chilled with a touch of balsamic reduction, grana padano and white truffle oil.
There should be no doubt in your mind that the star of the show here is this dish.
Please meet the Braised Short Ribs.
The flavor and taste was purely phenomenal and Thelma on Clinton hit one out of the ballpark.  This larger plate was triumphant over all other dishes by quite a lot.
We were delighted to try the Napa Cabbage Salad with almonds, red onion and mustard oil and this again featured the grana padano which adds a terrific "wow" factor.
There is a daily special entree, and on the day we visited which was a Friday, it was Branzino.
We understand this poisson swims over from Greece, and they filet it for you.  The whole roasted fish of the day had a solid showing and is served with rosemary, lemon and balsamic.

Thelma on Clinton is Terrific Takeout.
