It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we know Joe Notaro, owner of Italian Village which is closing in on 50 years in three more!  Located on 1526 First Avenue on the Upper East Side, it predates many of the neighborhood's high rises and is the pride and joy of owner Joe Notaro, who is the founder of this neighborhood gem.  In 1967, Joe came to New York from Sicily and worked for others until November 1970 when he opened this venue.  In 1985 he bought the building and in 2006, the dining room opened in the back.
Italian Village was first featured last summer:
This is its second feature.
It is one of the busiest places in the neighborhood, testament to its quality Italian food and friendly family atmosphere.  For our green salad, this time we opted for the classic Garden Salad, which is exactly as you'd want a salad to be.  Fresh, well-cut and in ideal proportion, this salad boasts cucumber, tomato, red onions, pimiento, olives and evidences that less is more.  Some salads at new, trendy places can be ridiculous marrying items that do not go together; this one is just right.  And, they listened and were happy to put the dressing on the side.  Salads are perfect with pizza...and this is our first time trying pizza here.
The colors are this brilliant and we do not edit the pictures.
We can assure you there are no sophomore acts with the chicken parmesean, which is just excellent and the best in the neighborhood.  Every day sauce is made fresh and the portion of chicken parm is generous and delicious.  You'll be happily intoxicated by the aroma when it arrives and the cheese is absolutely like cascading waves of goodness announcing your wonderful dinner is here.  It again silenced Peachy, which is no small feat.
But how is the pizza you ask?  It is another hit from Italian Village and definitely the best pizza for many, many blocks in its vicinity.  We always order vegetables on our pizza and this exact pizza graced: mushrooms, peppers, onions, garlic and spinach.  They teamed up for a nutritional symphony on a substantial crust that was up for the task of holding them all up!  Every bite was pure Italian goodness and memorable.
The best part was having a piece with Joe, who is right to be quite proud of it.
Note these people are also smart and tape the box closed twice; this is especially great during a snowstorm!  We always notice the little things.
Their pizza is equally fabulous, and we can't wait to see what they do next!
