It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and now we know Joseph Sweina and Tommy Guerselli, two of the owners of Little Italy Pizza.  One of the best things to happen to you as a reader is to find out our latest pizza intelligence.  This is our first time meeting them, their first review and of course our first time meeting their pizza and we must say it is the best pizza place that is new to us in 2017 we have seen in Manhattan.  We have a list of our favorite pizza places that we frequent regularly and tell you about, but it is not often that a newcomer joins the list as Peachy has extremely discriminating pizza taste.
They proved right away that they are peachy.
We are huge proponents of salads and fresh produce in general, as evidenced by our annual attendance at New York's Produce Show every December; it was last week.  Pizza and salad is a perfect combination and they must be avid readers of Whom You Know as before we even got there and ordered, they anticipated our salad enthusiasm.  The salads we tried are a small catering size and we suggest the same for you as the ingredients are fantastically fresh and you will enjoy them more than once.  And everyone knows that we all need to be eating more salad!
There are also choices of individual size and a large tray of salad.
This is the mixed green salad, and every component was not only fresh but also chopped perfectly and arranged in a gorgeous classic way.  Ms. I Do Not Like Most Salad Dressing did in fact adore the ranch dressing here.  Mixed greens successfully combined with onions, tomatoes, and ta da, cranberries which we particularly loved.  The items in all cases were in good proportion to one another.
The Caesar Salad is another wonderful option and the robust romaine waltzes with croutons of generous size and you can see they do not forget the cheese here.   Parmesean happily snowed over the salad to put you in the holiday mood, Ho Ho Ho!  You should leave this for Santa to balance out his cookie consumption.
Does your salad smile at you?
There are several Little Italy Pizza locations, so we specified the location we visited: 688 Sixth at 22nd.  We have never been to the other locations, yet.  The brand began in 2000 at Penn Station at 2 East 33rd Street and has successfully blossomed throughout Manhattan we understand with 12 locations now we believe.  This location began in 2016 and they make their sauce fresh every day and you can order the pizza by slice or by pie.  We suggest by pie because from the sensational crust that is just the right amount of chewy freshness with bread crumbs to that fresh homemade sauce you are going to love it.
If you are a purist as Peachy is, you want to taste everything the way it is supposed to be straight.  This is their large cheese pie, and the cheese is perfection.  Usually the cheese is our favorite but the fabulous panko crust and home made sauce are really spectacular here too so we found all components to be on par with one another.
Its glamour shot:
We also like that their pizza is neat in addition to rating high on our deliciousness scale.  Look at how perfectly sliced this is!  Guess who liked geometry class...Mr. Mann are you reading?
If you read closely, you know that Peachy almost always orders vegetables on her pizza.
This vegetable creation is crafted with spinach, mushrooms, onions, green and red peppers, tomato, garlic and broccoli.  Even if you think you don't like vegetables, you will like these vegetables!  Again, every component was perfectly fresh and sometimes when we order this many toppings an owner might say that their crust might not hold them (!!!....we do not tell you about those experiences) but you can be assured this crust, though soft, is also strong and up to the test.
We loved both pizzas equally for their respective assets and the Italian Specialties section of their menu also looks inviting for another time.
During this super busy season, do not forget to eat great pizza!
We are impressed by Little Italy Pizza and based on our first experience, we would highly recommend it.  We look forward to seeing what else is up their sleeve!  Stay tuned.
