Etiquette from Connecticut: Wait Your Turn at the Bar

When we are out and about in Manhattan, we are always surprised to see the wide variance of manners displayed in public, even at high-class social functions. Everyone learned as a child (hopefully!) that everyone takes turns.

Just this week, disorder in the champagne line happened AGAIN. We hate to see this. When there is someone in front of you at the bar, wait for that person to leave with their drink(s) before you charge ahead, crashing into them with your enthusiasm for champagne. Believe us, there is no one more excited than Peachy Deegan to get a glass of champagne, but how good will it taste when you know you have been rude to those around you?

When there is a space ahead of you, more forward towards the bar without bumping into people, without spilling their drinks, or walloping them with your purse or several bags. Please DO check extra baggage with the coat check when you arrive!

Do not cut others that were waiting before you, no matter how big and important (you think) you are!

If you spill your red wine over someone, make sure you give your information to them so you can take care of their dry cleaning bill and definitely get them club soda to try to minimize your transgression.

Everyone will get their champagne in the end, but civility is so important. Look at how nicely the Deegan girls are behaving at the bar.
