@CanadiensMTL @NHL #NHLPEACHY NHL and Montreal Canadiens Plan Special Weekend to Celebrate League’s 100th Birthday Special Events and Ceremonies to Take Place in Birthplace of the League

The National Hockey League (NHL) and Montreal Canadiens will host a series of events and ceremonies on Nov. 17-19, 2017 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the League. The celebration will take place in Montreal, where the NHL was founded at the Windsor Hotel in November 1917. Representing the Original Six roots of the NHL, Hall of Famers Ray Bourque (Boston Bruins), Yvan Cournoyer (Montreal Canadiens), Rod Gilbert (New York Rangers), Dave Keon (Toronto Maple Leafs), Frank Mahovlich(Detroit Red Wings), and Denis Savard (Chicago Blackhawks) – who have won a combined 22 Stanley Cup championships, scored 2,934 goals and produced 7,625 points in 8,156 regular-season and playoff games – will make special appearances throughout the weekend.

The activities will launch with a General Managers meeting at the historic Windsor – where, according to the handwritten minutes taken 100 years ago, a meeting was called “to ascertain if some steps could not be taken to perpetuate the game of hockey,” and the National Hockey League officially came into being on Nov. 26, 1917. The League will honor that moment on Nov. 17, 2017 with a gathering of top hockey operations executives representing the League and its 31 franchises.

Following the meeting, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, the NHL General Managers, Hall of Famers and representatives from the Government of Canada will dedicate a plaque recognizing the historic site as the birthplace of the League. The plaque will honor a century of NHL memories, moments and milestones.

Later Friday, Commissioner Bettman will join Montreal Canadiens owner, President and CEO Geoff Molson, the General Managers and Hall of Famers at a Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal business luncheon at the Hotel Bonaventure. The event, a salute to 100 years of the NHL, will include unique programming featuring League and Club executives.

On Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs will face-off against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre following a ceremonial puck drop featuring the legendary Hall of Famers, including Keon and Cournoyer – rivals from Maple Leafs and Canadiens, respectively, during the 1960s and 1970s.

The weekend will be accentuated by the presence of the NHL Centennial Fan Arena, a touring tribute to a century of NHL hockey. The free, interactive experience located outside Bell Centre on Saturday and Sunday, features an innovative museum, original video content, and a first-of-its-kind virtual reality game. Saturday will include special appearances and Q&A sessions with the Hall of Famers. Fans also will have the opportunity to have their photos taken with the Stanley Cup – the most revered trophy in sports, the trophy earned by the Canadiens 24 times, more than any other NHL franchise.

Free fan activities also will include the first-ever public display of the 100 Greatest Player portraits. All player portraits have been painted by renowned Canadian artist Tony Harris (@THFineArt). Based in Ottawa, Ont., Harris was specially commissioned to create the 100 original portraits. Harris’ work captures the character and spirit of each player in a one-of-a-kind 11x14 canvas. Since January 2017, the start of the NHL Centennialcelebration, the oil-based paintings have been digitized and shared online for fans around the world to enjoy. Over the course of the weekend, fans in Montreal can view all 100 paintings, which will be on display at historic Windsor Station.

Following several years of planning and 12 months of work, Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth hotel has officially reopened and welcomed its first guests.

The hotel's owner, Ivanhoé Cambridge, had closed the property for a year while a major transformation was completed. The project objectives have been achieved with the collaboration, expertise and hard work of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and principally two Montreal firms: Pomerleau, the general contractor, who worked closely with Sid Lee Architecture on the project.

Starting today, guests can enjoy a totally renewed hotel experience, thanks to the efforts of the team and the commitment of the more than 600 employees of Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth. Some 500 rooms are now accessible, along with all of the common areas, the Fairmont Gold lounge, the new CoLab 3 business campus on the third floor, with its vast outdoor terrace overlooking René-Lévesque Boulevard, Suite 1742 (site of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's iconic Bed-In for Peace), as well as the spa.

The other new "Queen E" experiences being introduced today include the Agora, Rosélys restaurant, Krema café, and Nacarat bar. Many more new features will be unveiled in the weeks to come, and all will enhance the unique experience of this pre-eminent hotel destination, while celebrating made-in-Montreal creativity and talent.

FAIRMONT THE QUEEN ELIZABETH

Following its major transformation, Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth hotel takes its place as an innovative business hub, amongst the most modern in the Americas and certainly in Montreal. Its business campus, developed by the creative teams at Sid Lee Architecture, comprises a set of multipurpose meeting spaces, allowing businesspeople to benefit from experience rooted in creativity, collaboration and innovation.

The reinvented concept features spaces designed to stimulate the imagination and foster business ingenuity, with all-new room architecture offering versatile open-plan layouts with a variety of possible configurations.

Among other new features, 3,250 m2 (35,000 ft2) of convention space has been added, bringing the total to 7,900 m2(85,000 ft2), which is the second-largest capacity of its kind in Montreal after the Palais des congrès.

This transformation guarantees that Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth will remain the preferred venue in the events and convention industry, with its state-of-the-art meeting and conference rooms. Thanks to these modernized spaces, the hotel becomes THE business destination in Montreal.

Business spaces

1. The convention floor (2nd floor)

The second-floor has been entirely renovated in keeping with Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth's new, resolutely contemporary identity. The second floor features modern, flexible conference and meeting rooms that can be laid out to suit users' needs.

The new configuration ensures smooth wayfinding, with personalized digital touchscreen signage technology. This area is perfect for networking activity with its versatile spaces (removable partitions).

The convention floor offers high-speed 1 GB connectivity—one of the fastest networks in the city.

2. The Parc Mont-Royal Rooms (2nd floor)

The Parc Mont-Royal prefunction rooms feature a one-of-a-kind open-plan meeting space concept, with co-working zones that can welcome up to three groups at once. The surroundings are warm and welcoming, conducive to listening, learning and fruitful collaborations. The space is multipurpose, with modern, refined and versatile furnishings (modular units, USB ports, mirror screens).

3. The Square Victoria Lounge (2nd floor)

The Square Victoria Lounge is a multipurpose space designed as a private recreation space for businesspeople. It is an ideal venue for product launches, vernissages, trade shows with exhibitor booths, VIP cocktail and other receptions, and more.

The lounge includes a bar and coffee corner and offers a unique view of downtown Montreal. It has a capacity of 200 in its cocktail-reception configuration.

4. CoLab 3 (business campus, 3rd floor)

The 3rd-floor business campus, named CoLab 3, provides inspiration and stimulation to business guests holding meetings. CoLab 3 is laid out so as to offer diverse meeting and work spaces adapted to varied needs, for large and small gatherings alike.

The campus contains 13 rooms, including zones designed for playful creativity and inspiring themed rooms for dynamic business meetings.

Inspired by the world of startups and digital keyboards, the names and designs of the rooms are original and striking, as are the concepts. The PING room, for example, includes a ping-pong table as a meeting table, with carpeting resembling artificial turf. The SWING room, meanwhile, is equipped with a pair of swings.

Eraseable whiteboard walls, stick-on sheets, a 180-degree wraparound multimedia display, touchscreens, video walls—these are some of the particularities of the business playground that is CoLab 3. The rooms cover a total floor area of 1,310 m2 (14,100 ft2), and the terrace occupies 400 m2 (4,300 ft2).

5. Outdoor terrace

The CoLab 3 workspaces adjoin a brand-new private outdoor terrace that offers a direct immersion in the energy of downtown Montreal. It can welcome up to three groups at once and 350 guests.

The terrace is the perfect spot to relax, interact, and hold outdoor receptions, by day or by night. The space has a spectacular view of Mount Royal and the iconic skyscrapers of the heart of downtown, while enjoying grilled meats or a drink in a very urban setting.

Headed by internationally renowned mixologist Nader Chabaane, Nacarat is a cocktail bar experience anchored by multiple stations drawing inspiration from the open kitchen concept.
"Liquid cuisine" is an apt description of the creative work of Nacarat's mixologists, who craft out-of-the-ordinary libations using both traditional and experimental techniques. Behind the bar, these artisans master liquids the same way great chefs do solid ingredients.
The Nacarat concept emphasizes spontaneity and improvisation, based on the individual tastes of each patron and the whims of inspiration. Here, the mixologist's creativity really comes into its own, right down to the way the drink is served.
Hospitality is also at the heart of the Nacarat spirit, fostering interaction between mixologists and guests.

A menu of creative side dishes is on offer, varying with the seasons.
Nacarat also offers a program of master classes for patrons looking to broaden their own mixology skills.

THURSDAY’S RESULTS
Home Team in Caps
Edmonton 4, BOSTON 3
WASHINGTON 5, Columbus 0
Nashville 6, TAMPA BAY 1
Carolina 4, ST. LOUIS 2
CHICAGO 4, Buffalo 3 (OT)
Detroit 4, LOS ANGELES 0
Minnesota 5, SAN JOSE 4

CAPITALS HALT BLUE JACKETS’ RECORD-SETTING WIN STREAK
Five different players scored and Braden Holtby posted a 29-save shutout as the Capitals (24-9-5, 53 points) halted the Blue Jackets’ (27-6-4, 58 points) franchise-record win streak at 16 games, one shy of tying the NHL record set by the 1992-93 Penguins (17-0-0, March 9 – April 10, 1993).

* John Carlson (1-1—2), Nate Schmidt (1-1—2) and Evgeny Kuznetsov (0-2—2) led the offense for Washington, who moved to 11-2-3 in their past 16 contests, including four straight wins.

* Holtby, meanwhile, registered his fourth shutout of the season (t-2nd in NHL), with three of those coming in his past 12 appearances dating to Dec. 5 (7-2-2, 1.74 GAA, .938 SV%).

BREAKING DOWN THE SECOND-LONGEST WINNING STREAK IN NHL HISTORY
A closer look at the Blue Jackets’ historic 16-game winning streak, which saw them defeat 14 different teams over the course of 36 days:

* Columbus’ run, which began with a 5-1 victory against the Lightning on Nov. 29, propelled the club from a share of ninth place in the NHL standings into the top spot overall.

* The Blue Jackets’ win streak was part of an overall stretch of 18 consecutive contests with a point (17-0-1), also a franchise record. They also established a club record with an 11-game road point streak that began in Washington on Nov. 20 (10-0-1).

* Columbus had an even split of home and road victories during their 16-game win streak to establish and match franchise records for longest home and road win streaks, respectively.

* The Blue Jackets outscored opponents 62-27 during the winning streak, with Cam Atkinson (10-8—18), Brandon Saad (8-8—16) and Sam Gagner (7-9—16) leading the way.

* Sergei Bobrovsky went 14-0-0 during the win streak to equal the second-longest win streak by a goaltender in NHL history, behind a 17-game run by Boston’s Gilles Gilbert in 1975-76.

WILD RALLY (TWICE) TO RETURN TO WINNING WAYS
The Wild fell behind 4-2 in the third period – their second two-goal deficit of the game – before Eric Staal (2-1—3) scored the first of three unanswered goals to help his club rally for a victory in San Jose, their first contest since New Year’s Eve when Columbus ended Minnesota’s franchise-record winning streak at 12 games.

* Minnesota improved to 24-9-4 (52 points) overall this season to keep pace with Chicago, who also won to move to 24-12-5 (53 points), in the race for first place in both the Central Division and Western Conference.

* Signed as a free agent in the offseason, Staal leads the Wild in goals (13) and points (33) through 37 games – equaling his goal total from 2015-16 (83 GP w/ CAR & NYR). Zach Parise (1-2—3) and Mikko Koivu (2-0—2), who skated in his 800th NHL game, provided the other goals.

* Via Elias, the Wild overcame multiple deficits of two or more goals to win for just the second time in franchise history (also Dec. 4, 2009 vs. ANA: 5-4 SO W).

* The Wild extended their road winning streak to seven games, one shy of matching the Blue Jackets for the longest such run in the NHL this season.

CAREER FIRSTS POWER OILERS, PREDATORS AND RED WINGS
Oilers forward Patrick Maroon and Predators forward Colton Sissons each scored their first career hat trick, while Red Wings goaltender Jared Coreau posted his first career shutout:

* Maroon (260 GP) opened the scoring 68 seconds into the game and tallied the eventual game-winner midway through the third period to help the Oilers move to 5-1-2 in their past eight contests. Maroon has collected 14-7—21 through 40 games in 2016-17, establishing a career high for goals in a season, besting his previous mark of 11 set with the Ducks in 2013-14 (62 GP).

* Sissons (79 GP) scored three of the Predators’ four unanswered goals over the final two periods as Nashville extended its road win streak to four games. Sissons, a second-round pick (50th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft, entered the contest with 7-6—13 in his first 78 career contests, including 2-1—3 in 27 games this season.

* Coreau (5 GP) made 34 saves to register his first career shutout while the trio of Andreas Athanasiou (1-2—3), Thomas Vanek (2-0—2) and Anthony Mantha (1-1—2) combined for all four goals in Detroit’s win. Athanasiou posted his first career three-point game.

LOOSE PUCKS
Patrick Kane (1-2—3), who has five overtime goals in 123 career playoff games, scored his third such goal in the regular-season (699 GP) . . . Jeff Skinner, who led the Hurricanes with seven game-winning goals in 2015-16 (82 GP), netted his first such goal of the season. He leads the club with 14-14—28 in 37 GP . . . Connor McDavid (0-2—2) extended his League lead for assists (31) and moved into sole possession of first place in the overall scoring race (14-31—45 in 40 GP) . . . Sabres forward Jack Eichel scored to extend his point streak to five games (3-3—6) . . . Duncan Keith (0-1—1) became the third defenseman in Blackhawks history to record 400 career assists, joining Doug Wilson (554) and Pierre Pilote (400) . . . The Bruins honored Milt Schmidt, a member of the 100 Greatest NHL Players who passed away Wednesday at age 98, during a pregame ceremony at TD Garden . . . The NHL fined Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov $2,000 as supplementary discipline under NHL Rule 64 (Diving/Embellishment) . . . The League announced details of the 2017 NHL Fan Fair, official fan festival of 2017 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend . . . The United States overcame deficits of 2-0 and 4-2 before Ducks prospect Troy Terry scored the lone goal in the shootout to clinch the gold medal at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship.

A perfect pairing to Food Network Canada, Cooking Channel expands Corus’ dominance in the food and lifestyle genre and joins the company’s roster of lifestyle channels including: Food Network Canada, HGTV Canada, W Network, Slice, DIY Network and OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network Canada.

“As leaders in specialty content, we are continuously evaluating our portfolio to ensure we are delivering audiences the best in entertainment,” said Barbara Williams, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Corus Entertainment. “As the interest in food content continues to grow, we see an opportunity to add the tremendously successful Cooking Channel brand to our portfolio.
