#SmallScreenScenes Acorn TV Renews Alicia Silverstone-Led Crime Drama Irish Blood Series Makes Acorn Tv History As The #1 Series Of All Time In Both Viewership And Subscriber Acquisition

As season one draws to a suspenseful end with today’s finale episode, Acorn TV has announced the renewal of Irish Blood – the most successful series in its history – for a second season.

Season 2, which will again be set and produced in Ireland, will also consist of six, hour-long episodes and will go into production in early 2026.

Starring and executive produced by Alicia Silverstone (Clueless, Bugonia), Irish Blood is the #1 series in Acorn TV history in both viewership and subscriber acquisition, based on the first three weeks of U.S. viewership, and has also achieved a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

“It means so much to continue this journey with a character I love. Thank you to everyone who’s watched and supported, and to the phenomenal Irish crew and actors who made working there such a joy, and to the entire team across this series,” shared Silverstone. “We’re so happy to have found a captive audience who enjoyed the ride from beginning to end.”

“Thanks to Alicia Silverstone and everything she has brought to this series, both as a star and executive producer, from the moment it was just an idea all the way to it becoming the most successful series in the history of Acorn TV” said Rob Fox, executive vice president of production for AMC Networks, who oversees programming for Acorn TV. “Thanks also to our entire cast, writers, producers and partners at Shaftesbury and Deadpan Pictures for everything that went into a remarkable first season of Irish Blood. Acorn TV is the best streaming service in the world for thrilling crime dramas and brilliant mysteries. We are so grateful for the way our subscribers have embraced this series and can’t wait to get started on season two.”

A six-part murder mystery, Season 1 of Irish Blood focuses on Fiona Fox (Silverstone), whose path in life is earmarked by her father, who seemingly abandoned her and her mother on her tenth birthday. After years of channeling anger toward him, to the benefit of her litigious clients, a message from her father sends her to Ireland. There she learns key truths about her father as well as a family that doesn’t know she exists, and, moreover, that the story of abandonment that has shaped her entire life – was a lie. A lie intended to protect her and her mother from her father’s shady business dealings. Fiona resolves to uncover the full truth about her father and reconnect with the parent she only thought she knew.

The Season 1 finale of Irish Blood debuts today, exclusively on Acorn TV.

In addition to Silverstone, Season 1 stars Jason O’Mara (The Man In The High Castle, The Good Wife), Wendy Crewson (We Were Liars, Tracker), Dearbhla Molloy (Wild Mountain Thyme, Rendezvous), Simone Kirby (His Dark Materials, Kneecap), Ruth Codd (The Fall of the House of Usher) and Leonardo Taiwo (Wheel of Time, Ant-Man & The Wasp).

Irish Blood is executive produced by Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Paul Donovan, Ailish McElmeel, Christina Ray, Aaron Martin, Silverstone and Molly McGlynn, who also directs Season 1. Irish Blood is produced by Shaftesbury and Deadpan Pictures, in association with AMC Studios and Fís Éireann /Screen Ireland and with the support of incentives for the Irish Film Industry provided by the government of Ireland, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and Ontario Creates. AMC Studios holds worldwide distribution rights.

#IrelandPeachy #UpCork Peachy Deegan was a Cork Resident! MAKING IN 2025 The annual gathering of world-renowned creative voices

Exploring COMMON – A Celebration of Shared Practices
5 - 6 September 2025

Making In, the annual gathering of renowned creative voices in celebration of making, returns from 5 to 6 September 2025 to Fartha, the home and studio of internationally acclaimed designer Joseph Walsh. Now in its 8th edition, the event brings together artists, designers, musicians, architects and thinkers from around the world for a unique programme of conversations, performances and encounters. More than an event, Making In has become an international platform where craftsmanship, innovation, and cultural dialogue converge.

This year’s edition is anchored in the theme COMMON — a term that invites reflection on notions of shared space, mutual responsibility, and collective imagination. What do we hold in common as makers, communities, and cultures? In an age marked by fragmentation, how can the act of making become a means of reconnection — to one another, to materials? These questions will unfold over the course of two days, through a constellation of voices and perspectives — artistic, ecological, spiritual, and material.

“There is nothing more commonplace than making. Everyone has had the experience of creating something, even if only as a child. It is a truly universal experience. Yet making can also show us what human capability looks like at its absolute zenith. Across this whole spectrum—from the everyday to the extraordinary—there is challenge, discovery, and meaning. We’ll explore this territory once again at Making In.” — Glenn Adamson, Moderator of Making In.

Making In, an annual gathering hosted by Joseph Walsh Studio

Making In is a non-profit cultural programme hosted at Fartha in County Cork, Ireland. Founded in 2017 by designer Joseph Walsh, whose vision and practice have shaped the event from its inception, it was conceived as a platform to celebrate and interrogate the act of making in all its forms. Rooted in a local context yet international in scope, it has established itself as a place where creative communities gather to exchange knowledge, spark collaborations, and inspire future generations.

Fartha — whose name derives from the Gaelic word for mound — is located in County Cork on the edge of Europe. It is where Joseph Walsh grew up, where he lives, and where he established his studio and workshop in 1999. Over the past 26 years, the site has evolved into an internationally recognised centre for design and craft, home to a team of artisans working at the cutting edge of their disciplines. Its grounds feature monumental works and experimental structures such as Passage House, Stone Vessel, and Hedge Theatre, conceived by Joseph Walsh and created in collaboration with O’Donnell + Tuomey Architects. Since 2017, it has hosted Making In annually. It is both the physical setting and the living expression of Joseph Walsh’s design philosophy, where material exploration, craftsmanship, and architectural experimentation come together in a deeply personal and public gesture.

#IrelandPeachy #SportyPeachy Athletics legend Eamonn Coghlan joins Consello's Senior Advisors team in Ireland

Consello, the leading global advisory and investing platform, is proud today to announce Irish track legend Eamonn Coghlan has joined its team of Senior Advisors.

Coghlan will work with Consello's Leadership Development, Talent and Business Transformation team, which supports leading organisations in Ireland and internationally with designing and implementing comprehensive strategies that attract, build, and sustain high performing teams.

Eamonn Coghlan and Declan Kelly

He is widely recognized as one of Ireland's greatest sporting heroes and one of the world's most dominant middle-distance runners of his era. Known as the 'Chairman of the Boards' for his unrivalled success on the American indoor circuit, he won an astounding 56 consecutive races and claimed a record seven Wanamaker Mile titles at Madison Square Garden. His three indoor mile world records stood as a testament to his enduring excellence, with one of them remaining unbeaten for 18 years. In 1983, he became the first man to run the mile in under 3 minutes and 50 seconds, setting a record time of 3:49.78.

That same year, Coghlan solidified his place in Irish sporting history by becoming Ireland's first World Athletics Champion, winning the gold medal in the 5,000m at the World Championships in Helsinki. His legendary career was crowned by one of the most remarkable feats in track and field history in 1994 when, at the age of 41, he became the first and only athlete over 40 to run a sub-four-minute mile, clocking 3:58.17 in Boston.

Beyond athletics, Coghlan has demonstrated a deep commitment to public service and youth development. A former Fine Gael Senator, his passion for youth fitness manifested through the 'Points for Life' initiative, emphasizing the importance of physical education in schools.

Commenting on his appointment, Consello founder, CEO and Chairman Declan Kelly said that Eamonn Coghlan will bring unparalleled experience in high performance, leadership and mindset to this Consello offering. "I grew up watching and being inspired by Eamonn Coghlan's success on the track. I've had the good fortune to get to know him later in life and he's been as inspirational in person as he was watching from a distance. His ability to inspire peak performance and drive success aligns perfectly with our mission to help the best in the world be even better. I've also seen what he does at a voluntary level and he's just an exceptional human being who has a motivational impact on all around him. He will add another layer of experience and insight to a team already laden with world-class talent," he said.

Commenting on his role with Consello, Eamonn Coghlan said, "I know Declan for many years and count him not alone a close friend but have also had the opportunity to work with him previously. What he has built with Consello, however, is at another level in terms of the people he has brought on board and what it is doing for the organisations it works with. Throughout my career, I have always strived for excellence, and I see the same dedication to success at Consello. I look forward to bringing my experience in high performance, mindset, and strategy to the team."

Coghlan joins a team that includes advisors Gary Neville, former Manchester United and England captain; Ronan O'Gara, Ireland and Munster rugby legend and La Rochelle coach; and Paul McGinley, former Irish champion golfer and Ryder Cup captain. The Ireland-based Leadership Development, Talent and Business Transformation team is led by former Tipperary senior hurling manager Liam Sheedy and Jane Mitchell.

#Daylight #PeachyandtheCity @StPatsParadeNYC #KeepingIrelandonTop #IrelandPeachy #StPatricksDay #Parade #NewYork #Manhattan #Saturday #March162024 #FifthAve

Their website tells us:

The New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade™ is the oldest and largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the world. The first parade was held on March 17, 1762 — fourteen years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The parade is held annually on March 17th at precisely 11:00 AM in honor of St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland and of the Archdiocese of New York. The parade route goes up Fifth Avenue beginning at East 44th Street and ending at East 79th Street. Approximately 150,000 people march in the parade which draws about 2 million spectators.

From its earliest days, right up to the present, the New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade™ has been run entirely by volunteers, many of whom come from generations of families dedicated to the organization of the parade. It takes months of preparation and countless hours to run the world’s oldest and largest parade. We could not do it without the commitment of these great women and men.

The NYC Saint Patrick’s Day Parade™ is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

*When March 17 falls on a Sunday, the Parade is held on March 16 for religious observances.

History
The NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of New York City’s greatest traditions. The first parade was on March 17, 1762 — fourteen years before the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence. The first NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade was comprised of a band of homesick, Irish ex-patriots and Irish military members serving with the British Army stationed in the colonies in New York. This was a time when the wearing of green was a sign of Irish pride but was banned in Ireland. In that 1762 parade, participants reveled in the freedom to speak Irish, wear green, sing Irish songs and play the pipes to Irish tunes that were meaningful to the Irish immigrants of that time.

Today, the NYC Parade marches up 5th Avenue and is reviewed from the steps of St. Patrick’s Cathedral by His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York. Since it began, this tradition of marching past St. Patrick’s Cathedral has remained unchanged with the exception of the address. In the early years, the Parade would march past the Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral (now Basilica) located at the corner of Mott and Prince Streets in SoHo.

Today, the Parade starts at 44th Street and 5th Avenue at 11am and proceeds up the avenue to 79th Street. Throughout the day along the Parade route, millions of spectators come to celebrate.

For the first few years, the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade was organized by military units. However, after the War of 1812, Irish fraternal and beneficial societies took over the duties of hosting and sponsoring the event. Around 1851 the “Irish” 69th Regiment began to lead the marchers. Also at that time, the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) became the official sponsor of the Parade as the individual societies merged under a single Grand Marshal. Today the 69th Regiment is still the first group to lead the Parade up 5th Avenue. They are followed by various Irish societies of NYC, the 32 Irish county societies, schools, colleges, Emerald societies and Irish language and nationalist societies. In the early 1990’s, the Parade was attacked for its traditional values and, in the resulting law suits, the organizer’s rights were upheld at the US Supreme Court level.

In 1992, the National AOH directed all AOH organizations to form separate corporations to run events such as the Parade. The NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade today is run under a separate corporation, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Inc.

In 2002, NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade was dedicated to the “Heroes of 9/11 honoring the police, fire and other rescue workers. At midday the entire Parade stretching one and half miles paused for two minutes. The marchers turned to face south towards the “Twin Towers” as Edward Cardinal Egan said a prayer for the victims of 9/11. It is said that was the first time in history that one could hear a pin drop on 5th Avenue. That year’s Parade was the largest to date with an estimated 300,000 marchers and three million spectators lining 5th Avenue. It was also the first time in the Parade’s history that the President of Ireland (Mary Mc Aleese) reviewed the Parade.

In 2011, the Parade celebrated its 250th anniversary with the world-renowned author Mary Higgins Clark as its Grand Marshal.

Five years later, the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade has much to celebrate and for which to be thankful. This year is the Ireland 2016 Centenary Year. Senator George Mitchell is the Grand Marshal. And the Parade is scheduled to have about 200,000 people marching up the avenue.

Who was St. Brigid? Believed to have lived during the 5th century, legends about St. Brigid's life are full of tales of her compassion, creativity and healing miracles. As a Celtic goddess of fire and fertility, she also came to represent the rebirth of nature and the colour and vibrance of Ireland in springtime, as well as becoming a figure head for strong and creative Irish women.

The Monday following St. Brigid's feast day on 1st of February was declared a new annual public holiday in 2023, the first women in Ireland to be recognised with one. St. Brigid's Day also marks beginning of spring in the Irish calendar. Known as 'Imbolc', it is one of the four key festivals in the Celtic calendar, and falls between the shortest day and the spring equinox and was a time when people look forward for a good growing year ahead.

Nowhere is St. Brigid's legacy felt more so than in the Counties Louth and Kildare in Ireland's Ancient East. In Brigid's birthplace of Louth, the annual Brigid of Faughart Festival illuminated Dundalk with a multisensory light show called Northern Lights. Designed by Irish artist Friz the light show complements her mural of the Saint which resides permanently in the town of Dundalk.

Whilst over in Kildare, where Brigid spent most of her life and founded a Cathedral, the Brigid1500 Festival has been hosting a series of events including concerts with trailblazing female Irish musicians Una Healy, Denise Chaila, Imelda May, Gemma Hayes and more. Two grand fiery processional events to celebrate St Brigid will also take place in the towns of Maynooth and Kildare over the bank holiday weekend.

Across the country too people are celebrating by crafting iconic St. Brigid's Crosses, a tradition that has travelled throughout the world, as well as taking part in processions featuring light and fire.

Springtime in Ireland is a time to fill your heart - full of promise, new life, rolling green grass, explosions of yellow daffodils and fields of lambs across the country; not to mention the longer days ending in colourful sunsets.

Leica Gallery Boston has announced a new photography exhibition that brings together the unique perspectives of two distinguished photographers, Jamie Johnson and John Day, titled "The Travellers and the Troubles." This showcase, running from February 2nd until April 21st, delves into the heart of Ireland's history, presenting two distinct approaches to documenting a culture through the lens of monochrome photography. "The Travellers and The Troubles" presents a unique journey through time as well as a poignant reflection on Ireland's past and will remain on view through St. Patrick's Day to coincide with the annual celebrations in the city of Boston.

The opening reception for "The Travellers and the Troubles." will take place on February 2nd from 6PM-8PM EST at Leica Gallery Boston, with a special book signing event on Sunday, February 4th. Jamie Johnson's out-of-print books will be exclusively available during the exhibition, providing visitors with a rare opportunity to engage with the artist and acquire a signed copy.

ABOUT JAMIE JOHNSON:
Jamie Johnson has dedicated her photographic career to documenting children around the world. Her latest body of work, titled 'Growing Up Traveling,' focuses on the Irish Travelers, a community living in caravans along the roadside and in open fields across Ireland. As a community rooted in oral tradition, Johnson's visually striking photographs aim to document and preserve the rich culture of the Travelers. Returning frequently to record these families as they grow, she forges generational connections with this historically misunderstood community. Johnson, based in Los Angeles with her family between trips, brings a global perspective to her storytelling through the lens.

ABOUT JOHN DAY:

In the summer of 1972, John Day embarked on a journey to Belfast, Ireland, armed with newspaper press passes and a dream to become a journalist. Armed with his Leica M2R, he immersed himself in the community to document "The Troubles." What started as a journalistic endeavor evolved into a profound visual narrative, capturing the atmosphere of daily life during a tumultuous time. Day's compositions, filled with hidden joy and tension, transport the viewer back in time.

#IrelandPeachy #ChristmasPeachy #PeachyandtheCity #NewYorkNotes #DublinPeachy The EPIC untold story behind Fairytale of New York

EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum assembles "the boys of the NYPD choir" to sing Galway Bay this Christmas

Exhibition launches in Dublin telling the story of The Pogues and Shane MacGowan

The Pogues' song Fairytale of New York is regarded by many as the anthem for Irish global emigration. It remains one of the most played Christmas songs of the 21st century. A standout line in the chorus reads: "the boys of the NYPD choir were singing Galway Bay" And whilst many have joined in to sing out the line, few are aware that the NYPD choir has, in fact, never existed, let alone sung Galway Bay.

That is, until now!
EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum's newest exhibition, 'They Gave The Walls a Talking', is a tribute to The Pogues, Fairytale of New York, and Irish diaspora around the world this Christmas.

EPIC the Irish Emigration Museum, based in Dublin, have decided to bring this famed line to life, assembling an NYPD choir to sing Galway Bay, just before the bells start ringing out for Christmas Day this year, as a tribute to the Irish diaspora around the globe.

Galway Bay was penned by Irish emigrant Arthur Colahan as a tribute to his homeland.

Almost 36 years after the release of Fairytale of New York, a group of retired NYPD officers, joined by a local amateur choir, gathered in a recording studio in the heart of New York City to lend their voices to the much-loved song, Galway Bay.

EPIC have captured the recording of the song in a heart-warming video that will resonate with the Irish diaspora around the globe.

Aileesh Carew, CEO of EPIC said, " We take immense pride in highlighting the stories and accomplishments of Irish emigrants, demonstrating that Irish identity transcends the geographical boundaries of our island."

Back home in Dublin, EPIC have unveiled They Gave The Walls A Talking, a meticulously researched and poignant exhibition that has been months in the making. Developed in collaboration with Hot Press, Ireland's legendary music, entertainment and pop culture magazine and website, the temporary exhibition is dedicated to The Pogues and the late Shane MacGowan. It is an opportunity for people to celebrate the songs and the music of The Pogues and to reflect on how the band – and their legendary lead singer and songwriter – became so widely loved and admired. The exhibition will run until 31 January, 2024.

Developed in collaboration with Ireland's leading music magazine, Hot Press, the exhibition investigates the creation of Fairytale of New York alongside other songs of emigration and the literary influences that inspired them.

Speaking about the exhibition, Nathan Mannion, Head of Exhibitions & Programmes at EPIC said that it "charts the marvellously wild, fiercely fiery, and wonderfully inspiring contribution The Pogues have made to music in Ireland and across the world."

The NYPD Choir's Galway Bay is available to view on YouTube at this link and is also available to listen to on Spotify, iTunes, or any major streaming platform.

#HolidayPeachy #IrelandPeachy Celtic Ireland, where Halloween all began

Halloween is coming – but did you know it is Ireland we have to thank for the most popular customs and traditions at the most unearthly time of year?  Of course we know...because Grammy brought us up to believe there are two kinds of people in this world: those that are Irish, and those that wish they were!  The Irish are famous for concocting a bewitching cauldron of mystery and merriment at Halloween time, and little wonder, Ireland is where it all began.

Experience the full interactive Multichannel News Release here: https://www.multivu.com/players/English/9217351-tourism-ireland-where-halloween-all-began/

Ireland Halloween
Halloween Fires

Trace Halloween to its origins and you will arrive right back in the mists of Ireland's Ancient East and the Celtic festival of Samhain, a great celebration of fire and feasting that marked the end of the season of light and the beginning of the dark days of winter.

At this moment of transition the Celts believed there was an interaction between the worlds of the living and the dead and that spirits could move between them. Fearing that all manner of beings might pull them into the otherworld before their time, the Celts would disguise themselves in costumes to confuse and scare off the roaming ghosts, fairies, hobgoblins and demons.

The modern practice of dressing up at Halloween is firmly rooted in these old pre-Christian Celtic customs, as is the tradition of lighting bonfires, which began on hilltops in Ireland with clans and communities gathering to light huge ceremonial Samhain fires.

One of the biggest Celtic festivals of fire was at the peak of Tlachtga, or the Hill of Ward in present day County Meath. Recent archaeological excavations suggest the hill was used for feasting and celebration over 2,000 years ago and old manuscripts reveal that the Celts lit a fire here from which all the fires in Ireland were rekindled.

To this day the area around the Hill of Ward, and the nearby Hill of Tara where the High Kings of Ireland ruled, remains one of the centres of Irish Halloween traditions. The Púca Festival, a twenty-first-century Samhain celebration, is held in County Meath and neighbouring County Louth every year.

Celebrating Ireland as the birthplace of Halloween, Púca events include an impressive re-enactment of the symbolic lighting of the Samhain fire, live music and performance, amazing light installations and more.

Lit up pumpkins with ghoulish faces is another much-loved aspect of Halloween. The practice of carving them began in Ireland, where turnips and large potatoes served as the original Jack-o-lanterns.

In fact, the name of the Halloween decoration comes from an Irish folktale about a man named Stingy Jack who played a trick on the Devil. As a punishment for his trickery, the Devil doomed Jack to wander eternity with only a burning ember from the everlasting fires of Hell inside a turnip to light his way.

Irish immigrants eventually brought the tradition to America, home of the pumpkin, and the winter squash has now become integral to the Halloween festivities.

Trick or treating is another Halloween tradition originating in Ireland, in this case with children and the poor going from door to door to ask for food, kindling or money. They sang songs or offered prayers for the soul of the dead in return for food, usually a soul cake which was a flattened bread that contained fruit. This tradition was known as 'souling'.

The custom of dressing in costumes and making house visits to request small presents of sweets, fruit and money is alive and well in Ireland today, and in many other countries around the world.
