#ReadThis #WillieBoy Eats the World By #WillieBoySchirripa #SteveSchirripa #PhilipLerman #KirkParrish (illustrator)

It's not who you know and it never has been for everyone that speaks English!
It's WHOM YOU KNOW and we actually DO KNOW Steve Schirripa although we have yet to meet Willie.  Steve is a spectacular friendly human being and total professional and among the favorite people Peachy has met and worked with.  Willie is no stranger to these pages though, as he made his debut visually tracking WOKE UP THIS MORNING which you also should read.
No doubt, Willie must have been inspired by Steve's past literary success and he has proven himself to be a canine to know in these pages, and his advice about expanding your culinary aspirations beyond Italian food (but obviously, still prioritizing and including it!) applies to not only Steve but also Peachy if you have read our other 30,000 posts!~!!!
Willie Boy Eats the World is a children's book that is winning in every single way.
It boasts peppy, polite verbiage (No Sopranos lingo-remember Steve ACTED on that show and we do not believe he was a writer and even if he were, it is a FICTION show!)  and fun illustrations of the dining escapades of Willie Boy and Steve delving into all kinds of cuisines.
This book captures so many different cultures and it is a bit like "It's a Small World After All" which of course you all know.  Everyone loved this book and it has wide appeal across ages and backgrounds.

Willie Boy Eats the World is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know!

#ReadThis #WhiteWolf by #EricVanLustbader @EVanLustbader

We have simple taste.
We only like the best, so we read Eric Van Lustbader.
In 2023, we asked when number five was going to be alive, and our question has been answered!  A Mover and Shaker since 2016 on this website, Eric has shown us once again that he is not a one-hit wonder like many that come and go have proven to be: he is always in it to win it!  And with the gift-giving season immediately upon us, he has made your shopping this year easier.

Everyone knows Evan Ryder by now, and Eric and his wife who might be even more awesome than him - we have not worked with her so we don't know yet - know that the future is female!  The next installation of a masterful series penned by The One and only Mover and Shaker Eric complete with a reindeer in the opening pages is perfect for holiday gift giving. Ilona Starkova is the white wolf or perhaps we shall say le loup blanc en francais, and this is for the reader that seeks intense action-packed sequences in rapid-fire!  If you are tired of the nonsense spewed out by the marketing departments of any of the publishers that compromise excellence, you can be assured that this is a quality story that is signature of the Eric Van Lustbader brand.

We shall not give anything away, but you ought to know that the sequential plot-driven work has a well-developed storyline by an author with decades of proven success.  The setting is truly a worldwide odyssey.  International escapes vividly await your rapt attention in a glorious tale of surreptitious nuances. Eric's gifted command of the English language is used with sword-like precision page after page.  In fact, it can keep you up all night reading it our studies show and if anyone sees anyone affiliated with this website today with bags under their eyes, you know why.

Note that there is an entirely different kind of Gru in White Wolf!  Nothing  is despicable here.

Not only is Eric a genuine New Yorker but also his characters are local residents. Tribe has a place on billionaires row!

Eric has a rare ability to write top-notch action-packed sequences that make you feel like you're watching a thriller movie; this is as rare of a talent you'll find among authors today that bore us to death.  Of course, we do not publish on them, and we close those books after the first 20, 30 or 50 pages and say next please.

Artificial intelligence plays a role evidencing how of-the-moment this great page-turner is, and his longevity in the business should speak volumes to you.  And P.S. Never confuse strategy with tactics! (p.90)

Evan Ryder races against time in a landscape where secrets can no longer hide behind digital walls. Ilona Shokova, the elusive, deadly assassin White Wolf, holds the key to mastering this unhackable method.

Two powerful, deadly women, one quest. Will either one of them survive?

In this pulse-pounding thriller, the future isn't just written in code - it's locked behind it.

Strap in for Lustbader's next explosive novel in the Evan Ryder series; an action-packed rollercoaster that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

#ReadThis #TheHeartofItsaWonderfulLife by #JimmyHawkins How the Most Inspirational Movie of All Time Still Inspires the Spirit #HarperHorizon

It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and now we know Jimmy Hawkins, through his genuinely excellent writing skills!  This should come as no surprise, given Jimmy's proven gift for communication as an actor; and for every smart Christmas shopper, his book is the ideal quintessential all-American present for the person that has everything.  This book is going to appeal to everyone and everyone on our panel was beyond delighted with this work!  Even if your name is Scrooge, you're going to love it.

It is the total inside story and absolutely nothing is secondhand, exactly how we like it at Whom You Know!  We love how the book is organized and the whole work is well-framed.  Every action really does have a reaction and the chemistry of life is a wonderful thing!  Intelligent disobedience is introduced as a great concept and we like how a lot of the movie script of It's A Wonderful Life is included.  Tommy Bailey actually was young and impressionable at the time of the movie, and the experience has left a memorable lasting mark on him which we are so lucky he shares with us readers.

The Heart of It's a Wonderful Life underscores how you can make a difference in the world.  Be sure to self-reflect!  Accountability matters and this inside story is amazing any time of year, but especially now.

#ReadThis #GermanyPeachy @QuartoBooksUS #MERCEDES-AMG:RACE-BREDPERFORMANCE by #MattDeLorenzo

Author Matt DeLorenzo has uncovered the brilliant, storied history of Mercedes AMG inbetween these pages with great depth and diligence and we highly recommend this superstar compliation that makes you go vroom even if you are sitting still in your armchair.  The Cruising Peachy panelists have been hard at work reading this beauty cover to cover and the gorgeous photography and well-placed visuals including engine drawings detail the careful verbiage that tells a spectacular story.  The completely comprehensive history boasts stunning photography that supports meticulous research and enhances it greatly.

All Mercedes are not the same: some are just superior.
Namely, the racing AMG versions!
From the Red Pig to the Red AMG Hammer you will meet each edition with vigor!

We highly commend the kickoff of this great work with honoring John Fitch by Sam Posey, both of whom we laud with high honors!  You might even know some of us here.

This book is so intelligently written and educates both the casual enthusiast and the die-hard equally.  The worldwide presence of Mercedes AMG is showcased including Europe and South America and of course the greatest outside Daytona, Lime Rock Park.  You'll see that "collabs" are not such a new phenomenon and it's not some invention of the influencer of the month that will come and go: collabs have been happening for ages!  Check out the McLaren/AMG one, among others.  Make sure you read this book in its entirely and just don't flip through the pages because you want to get to AMG ONE, which might be Peachy's favorite.

For everyone that reads us that also has a pretty good command of French like Peachy, note some parts of the book you see in three languages: German, English and French which is pretty neat.  We also like how auto shows and their evolution are covered around the world including Los Angeles, Paris and Geneva (check out our New York coverage this year here; obviously Corvette Racing is our favorite.)

Start your holiday shopping early...this is a great gift for anyone that likes racing or things that go!

Motorbooks History

It’s only fitting that our story begins in a garage.

The year was 1965, and North America was in dire need of quality car, motorcycle, and racing books. Luckily for gearheads, a transplanted Englishman and lifelong car guy named Thomas Warth took it upon himself to feed the need. From the stalls of his humble Minneapolis, Minnesota, garage, Warth launched a modest automotive book mail-order business selling transportation tomes, many of them imported from England. Thus was born Classic Motorbooks.

In 1973, Classic Motorbooks began publishing its own books, which it made available alongside those from leading transportation publishers around the world. This move put Motorbooks in the driver’s seat, allowing it to define the best books for enthusiasts and then engage the motoring world’s best photographers and writers to create them—an approach that continues to this day.

Besides our award-winning writers and shooters, we also partner with some of the biggest names in the business, like Harley-Davidson, Chevrolet, Ford, Hot Rod and Cycle World magazines, Dodge, and SRT—all to give us access to the best stories and the coolest photography. Alongside its own titles, Motorbooks continues to offer the best books from the other premier transportation publishers, fine-tuned exclusively for the enthusiast by gearheads who are just as obsessed as you are.

Motorbooks has embraced the gearhead life. If it has wheels, we dig it. Wrench, Race, Ride, Roll, Read: that’s our mantra. Now go burn some rubber.

#BigAppleBusiness Jonathan Karp to Step Down as CEO of Simon & Schuster and Launch the Company's Newest Imprint, Simon Six Simon & Schuster’s Board of Directors to Conduct search for a Successor Karp to Remain CEO During Transition

Simon & Schuster today announced that Jonathan Karp, Chief Executive Officer, has informed the Board of Directors of his intention to step down from his role as CEO. Karp will remain with Simon & Schuster and will become the publisher of a new imprint, Simon Six. In order to ensure a smooth transition and continued focus on Simon & Schuster’s authors, Karp will continue to serve as Chief Executive Officer during the transition.

“Simon and Schuster is on a great growth trajectory right now, and it has been a privilege to lead the company for the last five years,” said Karp. “When KKR acquired Simon & Schuster, I agreed to stay on through the transition, but my north star has always been our authors and their books, and I have decided it’s time for me to return to the part of publishing that animates me the most. I remain deeply committed to our mission and am excited to remain a devoted shareholder who will support our next leader and the entire team however I can.”

Jonathan Karp was named CEO of Simon & Schuster in May 2020, following ten years as Publisher of the company’s flagship imprint. Prior to joining Simon & Schuster, he was Publisher and Editor in Chief of Twelve, an imprint of the Hachette Book Group, which he founded in 2005. He began his publishing career in 1989 as an editorial assistant at Random House, where he worked for sixteen years, ascending to Editor in Chief.

Karp’s announcement coincided with the launch of the website for Simon Six (www.simonsixbooks.com), which will partner with Simon & Schuster’s existing imprints on six books a year, “each with an X-factor.” “As the founding publisher of Twelve, I published one book per month,” Karp said. “For Simon Six, I will acquire and edit half as many books each year and publish them with twice as much emphasis, in partnership with many of the same colleagues I’ve enjoyed working alongside for years.”

During his tenure, Karp has steered the company through periods of transformation and growth, including KKR’s acquisition of Simon & Schuster, which led to the broad investment in new editors, authors, and publishing initiatives, significant international expansion, strong financial results, and the implementation of employee ownership for all Simon & Schuster staff worldwide.

"Under Jon Karp's exceptional leadership over the past five years, Simon & Schuster has demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth in an evolving publishing landscape. His strategic vision and commitment to literary excellence have strengthened the company immeasurably, attracted new/renowned authors and reinforced its legacy as a premier global publisher,” Simon and Schuster Board Members Ted Oberwager and Richard Sarnoff said. “We are thrilled to launch the new Simon Six imprint under Jon’s leadership. There is no better shaper of books.”

In a letter to all Simon & Schuster employees, Karp wrote: “Over the past five years, we’ve brought a lot of new talent to our company. We’ve become a more international company. We’ve created an ownership culture and we’ve achieved some record-setting results that have positioned the company for growth. Most importantly, we’ve kept our focus squarely on our authors and the books we publish.”

Simon & Schuster’s Board of Directors has retained Spencer Stuart to lead a search for Karp’s successor.

#ReadThis #ParkAvenueFiresale by #MicheleWood

In her debut novel, Michele Wood strikes an entertaining chord with readers who are looking for a fun beach read in PARK AVENUE FIRESALE.  If you are a Manhattan insider, you will understand exactly what she means when she shows rather than tells it just how it is!  And if you aren't, you will find the auras created fascinating.

Even when you've done everything right, your world can come tumbling down.  From the Tom Wolfe-esque social x-ray type of women to all the usual suspects of ballroom venues, her book entertains.  We will warn you, it is racy and is for adults or the quite precocious, and naturally Peachy Deegan liked that the fashion designer was named Lily but she spells it differently.

The character development is good and we like how they connect outside of their respective realms.  However, we would have liked to have seen more commanding women in finance characters.  Men included show how if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!  Some characters seem great but when their loony nature comes out....!  Next, maybe for the characters involved.  Take the right chances.  Deception, manipulation and naive behavior will make you laugh.

Michele hits on all of the stereotypes successfully from penthouse to townhouse and everything inbetween.  There's an Anthony Weiner-esque type incident and elements of the late Bernie Madoff haunt some pages.  Elements of mystery make this a quick read.

"My life is perfect, she reminded herself...." (p. 35).  But is it really?  Take a look and pop this in your beach bag for a fantasy escape.   And of course, look for happiness within yourself.  Park Avenue Firesale is self-published.

#READTHIS @skyhorsepub #AmericanValues by @RobertKennedyJr #RobertFKennedyJr Earns Whom You Know's Highest Recommendation

We wish RFK Jr. all the best in his future Washington endeavors with our amazing 45th and 47th President and this team has shown the world that cooperation and putting America first is the way to go!  We were delighted to crack open RFK's book, published in 2018.  President Kennedy told him: "I never vote for the party; I always vote for the man." (p. 155)  Surely his entire family above is smiling down on RFK Jr. today.

This work is truly comprehensive, spanning the whole Kennedy history starting with its Boston origins.  At Boston College, Peachy took a class for an entire semester with the legend Thomas O'Connor based on his extensive research for his book, The Boston Irish.  Of course the Kennedys are included.  The beginning of this book starts off with the Kennedy history and we like that it is chronological in nature.  He credits Grandmother Rose as teaching him that the American Revolution began as a protest against excessive corporate power. (p.43)

Super well-written, American Values details priceless moments only a family member could tell you, and RFK Jr. does it in the most entertaining way.  He will regale you with Kennedy wit, humor, intelligence and everything that American has come to love about this family for countless decades.  Did you know Caroline told her father he was President? (p.95)  There was no shortage of excitement in this family with Tina Tuner and John Lennon added (p. 173)  You'll also learn that the Skakels are super colorful too; we featured ETHEL previously.

RFK Jr. also has a superior vocabulary and we were often consulting our dictionary.  His descriptive talents are also commendable: "...while watching nurse sharks cruise through the glassine faces of cotton candy-blue waves." (p. 31)  You'll also learn from him about how to face grief.

We would caution you against speed reading this.  You don't want to miss anything.   Also, Joe Alsop mentioned on page 162 we believe is from Avon, Connecticut as told to Peachy many years ago by her grandfather.

American Values by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has earned Whom You Know's Highest Recommendation.

#READTHIS @skyhorsepub Start Your Engines Famous Firsts in the History of NASCAR by Jay W. Pennell and Jeff Gluck

Nascar is a highly underrated sport in the North, but the love of cars is prevalent worldwide.  Lime Rock Park most notably leads the way in Northeastern Racing excellence, and we are honored to have worked with Skip Barber and his team many times in the past.  We do not agree that one in the North would feel as "the odd man out" as is referenced here, especially with the advent of the amazing Joey Logano and his third championship; of course he is from best state ever, Connecticut.  Skyhorse Publishing impressed us in late 2024 and we hope they keep up the great work: Start Your Engines is a solid introductory work that marks of course "firsts" in the sport.

After reading it, seriously enthused Nascar people did not see a lot of surprising facts but appreciated the re-emphasis of the greatest hits.  Danica Patrick is a worthy mention in this book and we have enjoyed meeting her in person at Macy's and have published on her many times.  We love the Geoff Bodine mentions and we have seen him race in Stafford Springs, and he is of course from New York, and Jeff Gordon once lived on Central Park West right here in Manhattan.  The Waldorf=Astoria used to host the annual Nascar awards lunch which we also have had the good fortune of attending many years ago.   Naturally, we love all the Daytona Beach references and this is an excellent book to discover the wonderful world of NASCAR!

Start Your Engines contains thirty-four chapters describing different inaugural accomplishments that have taken place throughout NASCAR history. This book answers the following questions:

• When was NASCAR officially founded?
• Where was the first Strictly Stock race held?
• What was the first flag-to-flag race ever broadcast on TV?
• When was the first night race?
• When and where was the first international NASCAR race held?
• Who was the first woman to win the Daytona 500 pole position?
• And many more!

In Start Your Engines, seasoned writer Jay W. Pennell outlines some of the most iconic and unknown firsts in NASCAR history. From Red Byron to Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt to Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson to Danica Patrick, Pennell also covers some of the biggest names of the sport and their landmark contributions. Providing in-depth explanations of each milestone, Pennell takes readers through the peaks and valleys of NASCAR history and details the impact each first had on the legacy of the sport. From the earliest days of NASCAR’s foundation, to the high banks of Daytona and famed Brickyard at Indianapolis, Pennell looks at monumental dates and races that changed the sport and helped it grow from a small gathering of race car drivers and promoters into the multibillion-dollar sports industry it is today. This book is a unique look at racing for new and experienced NASCAR fans alike.

#READTHIS @skyhorsepub #TheWinterGuest by #WCRyan

It's not secret we are huge enthusiasts of Ireland, mystery and history and when you combine the three for a dark tale taking you back 100 years to the troubles of Ireland, you have our attention.  Skyhorse Publishing continues to impress our adept readers and though summer reading gets a lot of attention, perhaps winter reading should get even more!  Baby it's cold outside and it's better to heat up with a work of fiction.

Characters of intrigue await you with some shocking scenes that wake you up out of your winter doldrums.  The White Lady will keep you wondering and it's important of course to keep the characters and their motivations straight.  There's a lot of dialogue to help you, and this work is ripe with secrets.

Also, it's the gift-giving season and books make excellent presents!  W.C. Ryan carries on the strong literary Irish tradition that we look forward to seeing more of, because remember, there are two kinds of people in this world.  Those who are Irish, and those that wish they were!

SHORTLISTED FOR THE CWA GOLD DAGGER AWARD

A haunting, atmospheric mystery set against a country divided, by the author of A House of Ghosts.

January 1921. Though the Great War is over, in Ireland a new civil war is raging. The once-grand Kilcolgan House, a crumbling bastion shrouded in sea mist, lies half empty and filled with ghosts, both real and imagined, while it shelters the surviving members of the Prendeville family. Then, when an IRA ambush goes terribly wrong, Maud Prendeville, Lord Kilcolgan’s eldest daughter, is killed, leaving the family reeling. Yet the IRA column behind the attack insists they left her alive, that someone else must be responsible for her terrible fate. Captain Tom Harkin, an IRA intelligence officer and Maud's former fiancé, is sent to investigate. He becomes an unwelcome guest in this strange, gloomy household.

Working undercover, Harkin must delve into the house's secrets—and discover where, in this fractured, embattled town, allegiances truly lie. But Harkin too is haunted by the ghosts of the past and by his terrible experiences on the battlefields. Can he find the truth about Maud's death before the past—and his strange, unnerving surroundings—overwhelm him?

The Winter Guest is a gripping and immersive read for fans of classic mysteries by the likes of Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers along with Charles Todd’s Ian Rutledge series, Ann Cleeves, and Jacqueline Winspear.

#READTHIS @skyhorsepub #AMISHPIES by Laura Anne Lapp and Bonnie Matthews

In the world according to Peachy Deegan, there is one right answer for dessert outside of dark chocolate (not white chocolate) and ice cream (not yogurt, not low fat) and that is APPLE PIE.  Or strawberry rhubarb.  Or most obviously, PEACH.  Or maybe just all of them and even more with the ideas we are getting to get in the spirit of the dessert holidays from Skyhorse Publishing with their stellar hit, AMISH PIES.

You obviously don't have to be Amish to love it, and Peachy most certainly isn't.  However, the Amish have historically established that they excel in the pie realm.

This is not only the typical pies you'd expect.  It goes beyond and covers savory numbers as well as creamy and custard initiatives to expand your pie spectrum.  Also, if you like Trivial Pursuit and who doesn't, this caps off a very good game quite nicely in tandem with obviously pizza.  And March 14, Pie Day, is also a great day to celebrate with this book.

The sweetest people bring dessert to the holiday celebrations and this book has a myriad of ideas!  We love the clear verbiage and fabulous photography and moreover, if you make a pie to bring to the gathering, it is even better if you also bring this cookbook as a gift for the host.

Also Santa might like PIE better than milk and cookies...just an idea for you!
