We Have Been Loving Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20 by Clinique. Highly Recommended by Whom You Know.

We on the Whom You Know panel have been using this fabulous product for 2 months now and it has yielded remarkable results. We try many, many creams and this is one of our favorites. An update from our fresh-faced panel:

"This moisturizer has been a part of my daily morning skincare ritualfor the last month and I can't be more happy with it. Through the years, I've had a slow onslaught of dark spots and freckles crop up on my face despite the diligent use of sunscreen. Turns out what I needed was this moisturizer and its combination of skin clarifier, UV-rays protector and all-day hydration. I love a product that has multi-purpose functions and that's what Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20 has. I feel better being out in the elements when I have this product on!"

"Clinique, Even Better never seems to disappoint me as other things do in life. The skin tone correcting moisturizer SPF-20 goes on smoothly, with no heavy overlying residue some moisturizers leave one feeling. Even Better has a light fragrance that complements the texture. Yes, I enjoy and continue to use Even Better with delight!"

"I couldn’t be happier about the effects of the NEW Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer. After years of damaging my skin with acne treatments that cleared up my acne but left discoloration around my nose and chin, I’ve finally found a way reverse the effects. Effects were not immediate, but I’m seeing definite improvement after a few weeks. I’m hooked!"

"After using Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20 for around a month, I am pleased to say……my skin does get EVEN BETTER! It really has improved the evenness in my complexion and has helped to decrease skin discolorations on my face. SPF 20 is important, even in winter, those rays are still very harmful, and everyone should try this cream. It even prevents hyper pigmentation from occurring in the future."

ERASE PAST DAMAGE!

Launching October 2009

Wish those dark spots on your skin would just disappear? Studies show that you’re not alone – 25% of women in the U.S. suffer from uneven skin tone or hyperpigmentation. Skin discolouration can be caused by numerous culprits including acne scarring, age spots, hormonal changes and lack of moisture, however UV damage is the number one cause.

Extensive research proves that harmful UVA and UVB rays are a leading contributor to dark and uneven skin areas and when unprotected against UV exposure, skin is more susceptible to the formation of these unwanted skin discolourations. Introducing NEW Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20, a multi-targeted, daily hydrating cream with patented and patent-pending ingredients to help treat and protect skin from current and future discolouration caused by hyperpigmentation among all ethnicities. Building on the success of the Even Better franchise, Clinique is taking the breakthrough hyperpigmentation technology which successfully addresses visible dark spots and coupling it with advanced photostable, broad spectrum 3:1 UVB/UVA protection and moisturization benefits.

A MULTI-TARGETED APPROACH

Clinique’s multi-targeted formula helps provide luminosity and increase brightness. The ultra-hydrating moisturizer battles the multiple causes of skin discolourations by immediately helping to brighten skin and restore skin to a more uniform tone overtime. By addressing dark spots, Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20 helps to:
Prevent and reduce the appearance of excess pigment in skin.
Deter the surfacing of new spots.
Break up and scatter existing dark spots into less visible particles at the skin’s surface leaving skin more even toned.
Assist in whisking away and removing melanin “dust” through exfoliation.
Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20 also provides new technology with targeted treatment to help strengthen the skin barrier and protect against the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. When a skin’s barrier is weakened, environmental assaults can more easily irritate and lead to excess melanin production. Strengthening the skin’s barrier against irritants helps to prevent the development of future discolourations. As a weakened skin barrier and sun exposure are both major causes of hyperpigmentation, this luxurious yet powerful moisturizer:
Provides photostable, 3:1 broad spectrum UVB/UVA protection to help prevent the formation of future dark spots.
Repairs, builds and strengthens skin’s barrier to better resist against external irritants that can lead to the development of dark spots.
Delivers instant hydration and all-day moisturization.

EVEN BETTER INGREDIENTS

A cocktail of powerful ingredients helps contribute to the reduction of discolouration caused by hyperpigmentation.
Ellagic Acid and Vitamin C (Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate/Ascorbyl Glucoside) help to address the appearance of dark spots.
Pyrus Malus (Apple) Extract is unique to this moisturizer in the Even Better franchise, and helps calm and soothe irritated skin.
Advanced Yeast Blend, a concentrated, patent-pending blend provides effective brightening results by breaking up existing dark spots into microparticles and making them less visible on the skin.
Curcuma Longa Turmeric Root Extract is a powerful antioxidant and anti-irritant helps fend against environmental assaults that can off set excess melanin production.
Sucrose/Trehalose help attract and maintain moisture levels in the skin.
A blend of Lineolic Acid/Cholesterol/Wheat/Olive Extract helps rebuild the skin’s barrier and deliver intense moisturization so the skin is protected against external irritants.
And a blend of broad spectrum sunscreens including UVA absorber Avobenzone, UVB absorber Octisalate as well as Octocrylene help protect skin against UV exposure and prevent future formation of dark spots and discolouration.

DETAILS, DETAILS…
While Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20 has powerful results against discolourations caused by hyperpigmentation, results are seen even faster when coupling with Even Better Skin Tone Corrector, an innovative layerable serum designed to help undo the visible evidence of discolourations caused by hyperpigmentation and result in clarity and overall evenness of skin tone. Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20 is the perfect partner to the corrector. When the moisturizer was used once daily coupled with a twice daily use of the corrector, multiple ethnicities showed skin’s clarity to immediately improve by more than 75% and moisturization by more than 69%. Skin is clearer, dark spots lighter.

Appropriate for skin types 1, 2 and 3, apply once daily to face following the appropriate 3-Step Skin Care regimen and Even Better Skin Tone Corrector. Spread evenly over the entire face, avoiding the immediate eye area. Complete a finished look with Even Better Makeup SPF 15, a liquid foundation available in 20 shades.

Allergy Tested. 100% Fragrance Free. Oil-Free. Non-Acnegenic. Dermatologist Tested. Ophthalmologist Tested. And Tested by the fabulous Whom You Know panel. They thought two months ago:

"Following a summer spent outdoors under the sun without adequate SPF protection on several occasions, I've sprouted a noticeable amount of dark sports on my face and arms. It's with much relief that Clinique's Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20 is here to the rescue. This new moisturizer helps repair, build and strengthen the skin's barrier after it's been weakened by UVA and UVB exposure as well as other environmental factors. This product gradually lessened the dark spots I have, while imparting a bright and luminous glow. The moisturizing ingredients have just the right amount of hydration, thus soothing and calming the skin, getting right to work after the UV rays have done their damage & helping to prevent future formation of further dark spots and hyperpigmentation. For faster results, it's recommended to use the Even Better Skin Tone Corrector (a layerable serum that's also a part of the Even Better line) at the same time. Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20 comes out in October 2009, look for it at the Clinique counter!"

"Clinique: even better - skin tone correcting moisturizer SPF20 hydratant anti-taches correction teint SPF20...goes on like and wears like "silk"! The smoothness it creates is incomparable to any other facial moisturizer. When applied to the face and neck decolletage makes one feel "oh-so-special". When spread on prior to your foundation just sets your face and well-being for the day. The hint of light fragrance lends itself to its' silken demeanor. This mellifluous moisturizer is a "must have" to any and all! JUST LOVE IT!!!"

"Clinique Even Better Moisturizer is an amazing product for skin care. My skin tone is even as I have sun damage. This wonderful cream has already started to even out my skin tone. Chandelier Peachy: The Patent-Yellow Parlor Chandelier - Gracie Mansion Chandeliers

Patent-Yellow Parlor Chandelier

Produced in about 1840 in Philadelphia by the prominent lamp manufacturer Cornelius and Company, this chandelier is actually a gasolier: it originally used gas to produce light, not candles. The fixture is on loan to the Conservancy by Craig Littlewood of Museum Quality Restorations.

Whom You Know thinks this is absolutely stunning!  Be sure to tour Gracie Mansion to see all of the Chandeliers we have featured.

We recommend Tours of the Gracie Mansion!

Tours at Gracie Mansion
Gracie Mansion was built by Archibald Gracie, a prosperous shipping merchant, as a summer house for his family in 1799.  Gracie’s friends included political, civic, and artistic leaders of the day; Alexander Hamilton, Governor De Witt Clinton, Rufus King, Josiah Quincy, Joseph Bonaparte, and Washington Irving were all visitors to the House. During construction of the FDR Drive, Parks Commissioner Robert Moses convinced city officials to designate Gracie Mansion as the official residence of the Mayor of the City of New York, and in 1942, Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia moved in. Since that time, nine mayors have made Gracie Mansion their home. In 2002, the interior and exterior of the House were restored, transforming Gracie Mansion into the “People’s House,” providing increased accessibility to the public. Gracie Mansion is a member of the Historic House Trust of New York City.

Tea Tours continue the tradition of Gracie’s celebrated hospitality and are available for groups of 25-50 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at $25 per person. A selection of delicious, homemade tea sandwiches, teacakes and scones are served.

General Tours are on most Wednesdays at 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM and 2 PM. General admission is $7 for adults,  $4 for seniors, and students are admitted free of charge.  Tours last approximately forty-five minutes.

School Tours are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and school groups are free of charge.

Reservations are required for all tours. To make reservations for individuals or groups, or to volunteer or to help support the Gracie Mansion Conservancy, please call 311 (or 212-NEW-YORK outside of New York City).

KERRY TAYLOR AUCTIONS IN ASSOCIATION WITH SOTHEBY'S TO SELL AN HISTORIC COLLECTION OF AUDREY HEPBURN COUTURE AND ACCESSORIES

This is the English translation of the below post:
http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/11/kerry-taylor-auctions-in-association_30.html

Auction: Tuesday, December 8th 2009 at 2pm Venue: La Galleria, Royal Opera Arcade, Pall Mall, London Exhibition: Sunday 6th December 12 noon - 5pm Monday 7th December 9.30am - 5pm Tuesday 8th December 9am – 11am

Touring exhibition of highlights: Sotheby’s New York, 21st-22nd November Sotheby’s Paris, 1st-2nd December

Audrey Hepburn was not just a film star - she was a major style icon of the 20th Century. Simplicity and seemingly effortless elegance was her trademark. Ably aided and abetted by the young couturier Hubert de Givenchy, she became the personification of chic elegance in the 1950s and 60s. Givenchy said of her “All the responsibility for the way Audrey looked is hers. She made the selections.” Audrey was the first actress off-screen who was able to play the part of fashion models on-screen and be credible. For `Funny Face’ in 1957 and many of her other major films, Audrey had it written into her film contracts that de Givenchy would make all the clothes she wore and also astutely had it agreed that she retain the majority of her Parisian wardrobe.

Background
In 1951 Audrey left the Netherlands with her mother Baroness Ella van Heemstra to pursue her dream of becoming a ballerina. The hardships she suffered during the war, (constant anxiety and hunger due to the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands) left her physically weakened. This, combined with her height (5ft 7in) meant that she was rejected for prima ballerina roles. She turned to other possible careers - working in the chorus line, modelling and acting. The rest is history. Ballet’s loss was cinema and the fashion world’s gain.

Living nearby in Mayfair, London was the Star-Busmann family – the father, (a Netherlands Ambassador) with his wife and their two daughters, one being the 15 year old Tanja. The mothers were lifelong friends as the two young women were also to become. Audrey referred to Tanja as “Darling Chum – cause that’s what you are.” When Audrey was engaged to James Hanson (a marriage that was not to take place) she sent a telegram to Tanja asking her to be her bridesmaid, at the same time swearing her to secrecy. The Star-Busmann family avidly followed every step of Audrey’s career from walk-on parts in Ealing films to becoming a glamorous film star and fashion icon. One letter to Tanja from Audrey dated 1st November 1950 shows her interest in clothes and fashion even at that early stage “I start on ‘Young Wives Tale’ am so thrilled Tanja as it will be my first REAL part in movies…On Tuesday I am going shopping with our wardrobe mistress for my clothes, they will pay for everything, so I get a real kick out of choosing things.” Audrey’s next film was the Ealing comedy “The Lavender Hill Mob” where she met Alec Guinness. He described her thus “She only had half a line to say, and I don’t think she said it in any particular or interesting way. But her faun-like beauty and presence were remarkable.”

In 1951, Audrey left Europe for the USA to star in the Broadway production of ‘Gigi’. She sorted through her unwanted clothes and passed on the things she no longer needed to Tanja. Tanja recalls how this became something of a ‘fabulous tradition’ and describes how cavalcades of boxes would arrive filled to the top with layers of delicious couture and accessories. She said it was “Like Xmas a thousand times over”. This collection is a fraction of Audrey’s original wardrobe - the press at the time made much of the fact that Audrey travelled with large amounts of luggage when she and her husband, the actor Mel Ferrer, were on location.

Hepburn Style
Audrey had a sense of her own unique, personal style. She preferred to wear pastel colours, black and ivory with the occasional hot-pink statement as evidenced by this collection. Edith Head, the multi-Oscar winning film costumier said of her “Like Dietrich, Audrey’s fittings became the ten- hour not the ten-minute variety. She knew exactly how she wanted to look or what worked best for her, yet she was never arrogant or demanding. She had an adorable sweetness that made you feel like a mother getting her only daughter ready for the prom”.

Audrey was 5ft 7inches tall, bust 32in, waist 22in, hips 34in. For most of her life these measurements altered but slightly.

The Collection
There are around thirty six items of clothing on offer dating from 1953 to the late 60s as well as hats, belts and a fascinating group of letters in which she describes an early film break, her proposed wedding to James Hanson and the time she spent filming “Roman Holiday”.

As one might expect the collection includes stunning evening-wear including a plethora of chic little black dresses by Valentino, Elizabeth Arden (she wore this gown when she met her first husband Mel Ferrer in 1953) and of course her favourite designer of all – Hubert de Givenchy. He created a black cloqué silk gown for Audrey to wear for the film “Paris When it Sizzles” in 1962 (£10-15,000) a sensational Chantilly lace cocktail gown which she wore in the “How to Steal a Million” in 1966  which are included in the auction.

Audrey’s Wedding Dress
The auction also includes the ivory satin bridal gown designed for Audrey Hepburn by the Fontana Sisters for her planned marriage to James (later Lord) Hanson. In 1952, whilst Audrey Hepburn was filming `Roman Holiday' with Gregory Peck in Rome, she approached the Fontana sisters to ask them to make her bridal gown. Signora Micol Fontana said that the 23 year old Hepburn was “young, fresh, on top of the world". She used to slip away from the set to take refuge in the sewing rooms and discuss the dress. "Audrey wanted complete discretion and had lots of fittings”. Some weeks later when Audrey called off the planned wedding to James Hanson she asked the eldest of the sisters - Zoe to give the dress away. "I want my dress to be worn by another girl for her wedding, perhaps someone who couldn't ever afford a dress like mine - the most beautiful, poor Italian girl you can find." Zoe's search centred on the town of Latina which had been founded by the fascists in 1932. The dress was given to a poverty stricken young Italian girl called Amabile Altobella, which coincidentally was the same Christian name as the Fontana sister's mother. Amabile visited Rome just once to have the dress adapted by the Fontana sisters for her to wear at her own wedding to farm worker Adelino Solda with whom she remained happily married. They produced three daughters and five grandchildren. Amabile said, "I have had a happy marriage, so the dress brought me luck". The town council gave the young couple kitchen furniture and even organized a honeymoon for them in Paris. After the event she carefully wrapped the dress in tissue paper and stored it away without disturbing it for decades. It was not until 2002, when Micol Fontana, the last survivor of the three sisters traced the gown for a retrospective exhibition of their work, that it was re-discovered. It is sold with a photograph of Audrey wearing the original Fontana gown and a letter from the vendor confirming the provenance. It is estimated to fetch £8000-12000.

Value
It is difficult to predict prices in such a unique sale, however, it is hoped the sale will raise over £100,000. Estimates start at £400.The majority of Audrey Hepburn’s wardrobe remains in private hands – held mainly by the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Foundation and the Givenchy Archive. Very few pieces of Audrey’s clothing have ever come onto the open market. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Audrey Hepburn fans to acquire a little bit of that Hepburn magic.

50% of the net sale proceeds of lots will be donated go to The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund and Unicef for their joint venture 'All Children in School' which aims to provide 115,000,000 children worldwide, not currently in school with a basic education. Two thirds of these are girls. http://www.audreyhepburn.com/

http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/11/daylight-peachy-deegan-has-breakfast-at.html

But, if you missed it you will be pleased to know you can catch it soon in Paris!
WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!

Conservation and Reform: Tiffany's Stance on Hardrock Mining in the American West

In the United States, Tiffany & Co. is working to support reform of the General Mining Law of 1872 and to pass legislation to assist in cleaning up abandoned hardrock mines.

They agree with many in the environmental community, the mining industry and Congress that an overhaul of federal mining law is long overdue. Tiffany also understands that achieving mining law reform will require hard work, negotiation, compromise and creativity in a public, transparent process.

They believe that mining on our public lands should be a privilege and must be carefully measured against alternative uses, including recreation and conservation. Most importantly, they recognize that some public lands are simply not suitable for mining, and that their value for recreation and conservation is far greater than their value as a source of materials.

If reforms are to succeed, they believe taxpayers must be fairly compensated for minerals taken from public lands, that protection of the environment must be enhanced and that business certainty for companies and communities dependent on mining must be improved.

Tiffany & Co. has publicly—and actively—opposed inappropriate mine development on environmentally and culturally sensitive lands. The toxic legacy of abandoned mines in the  American West is also a matter of great concern to Tiffany. Under current law, government entities, nonprofits, private parties and other organizations may incur liability for voluntarily cleaning up mine-related pollution they did not cause. Tiffany supports protection of these "Good Samaritans" to encourage efforts to effectively deal with these mines and to establish a permanent source of funding for them.

Tucked away in the rolling hills of Napa Valley, along the Silverado Trail, lies an undiscovered stretch of picturesque benchland vineyard. William Hill Estate Winery sits at the center of this vineyard – in the heart of the Silverado Bench – crafting contemporary, sophisticated wines that tell the story of a very different kind of Napa Valley: A Napa Valley that is off the beaten path.

Here at Whom You Know, we strive to find these undiscovered products that are like diamonds that we uncover...we are pleased to announce that the William Hill Chardonnay is a great example!

In 1978, visionary vineyard developer William Hill saw the incredible potential of the Silverado Bench, where he built his namesake winery.  Three decades later, William Hill winemaker Ralf Holdenried is making modern wines that speak to the unique terroir of this virtually unknown area of southern Napa Valley.

A Unique Estate Vineyard

A confluence of characteristics makes William Hill’s 140-acre estate an ideal vineyard. Set on a benchland – off the valley floor, but below the steeper slopes of the hills – with a southwestern exposure, the vineyard basks in abundant sunlight. Vineyards in Southern Napa are typically cooler, but the sun exposure on the Silverado Bench makes William Hill a notable exception.

The vineyard is close to the valley floor climatically, but the volcanic soil and the size and vigor of the vines means William Hill is more like a mountaintop vineyard. These elements translate to fruit-driven, expressive red Bordeaux varietals with elegant tannin structure.

Significant variation in aspect, drainage and sun exposure – even from row to row – has prompted winemaker Ralf Holdenried to carve out specific vineyard blocks, some as small as one-tenth of an acre. The grapes from each block are picked at their optimal ripeness and fermented separately, allowing Ralf to bring the full expression of the vineyard into the bottle. The result is a range of concentrated, balanced blends with multi-dimensional layers.

A Contemporary Winery

It is no coincidence that William Hill Estate Winery was designed with the winemaker in mind. The vineyard is just outside the winery door, giving Ralf the freedom to be involved in every aspect of the winemaking process. “During harvest, I want to be out in the vineyard where all the flavors are developing, but I also want to be in the winery for the next steps,” says Ralf. “At William Hill, I have the great luxury of seeing what we’ve picked in a given day and then tasting from the fermentation tanks, almost instantaneously.”

Ingenuity converges with artistry at William Hill, a midsize artisanal winery. Designed for optimal flexibility, the winery supports Ralf’s approach of carving out vineyard blocks and letting their flavors develop individually. “The number of tanks and barrels we have in relation to the grapes on the land means I can make decisions about blending once the individual lots have had a chance to show their true potential,” explains Ralf. “This winery facilitates an artistic influence over the wine.”

The Champagne Wishes Panel of Whom You Know could not have been more pleased with this product.  One of our experts is particularly well-versed in white wine and it is her signature drink:

William Hill Estate Napa Valley Chardonnay (Vintage: 2007)

"If you're ever in need of a great wine accompaniment to a seafood dish, the William Hill Estate Napa Valley Chardonnay is just the ticket.  I discovered this to my delight over a dinner of lobster ravioli layered with mozzarella cheese and drizzled with miso sauce.  Before taking a bite of my dinner, I took a few sips of the Chardonnay, which started out as a full-bodied, complex burst of notes such as pineapple, tangerine, apple and florals, but ends with a crisp, clean, and ever so slightly creamy finish.  Paired with my meal, I was amazed at how well it complemented the relatively mild seafood ravioli without clashing with the stronger flavor of the miso.  It was actually quite a harmonious blend of flavors, the ravioli tasted better in between sips, and in between the tantalizing bites, I just wanted to take more sips of the wine.  I must emphasize the importance and appeal of pairing a dish with just the right wine, as it makes all the difference in the enjoyment of the meal!

It isn't surprising that such a fine Chardonnay is sourced from the Napa Valley, which I've learned from 2 previous trips, is actually renowned for yielding some of the finest Chardonnays in the world.  William Hill Estate's specialty focus is on its Chardonnay (as well as Cabernet Sauvignon), so you can be assured the Chardonnay is top notch.

As the pairing of this Chardonnay with seafood was such an excellent match, I'd dare to venture that other light meats, such as poultry, would be a fine and complementary pairing too.  And with Thanksgiving right around the corner, I will have a glass of this Chardonnay right alongside my turkey dinner!"

"When you are not a wine connoisseur, you can have difficulty choosing wines, either when entertaining guests or when bringing a bottle to a friend’s house for dinner, and I know some of our readers of Whom You Know are in the learning stages in regards to the wonderful world of wine.    Generally, I ask the person behind the counter in the wine shop what he/she would recommend to enhance my own knowledge, and I am happy to try suggested bottles.  When the William Hill Estate 2007 Napa Valley Chardonnay was recently recommended by a friend, I went with it and offered it up at Thanksgiving dinner at my mom’s house.  And for the first time in a long time, people actually talked about the wine, took a closer look at the bottle to note the maker, and complimented my selection.

Here’s what others were saying on Thanksgiving:  'Have a glass of wine, you’ll love it…Well, I didn’t want to have more than one before dinner, but this is delicious…What a perfect complement to the turkey!'

And so, over dinner of turkey and a ridiculous variety of traditional side dishes, I indulged in a glass.  And it was delicious.  There was a kind of fruitiness that I wasn’t expecting.  The sweet flavors are subtle, but even a rookies will taste the difference between this chardonnay and others.  Just take my word that for $20 a bottle, the William Hill Estate 2007 Napa Valley Chardonnay is well worth the price.  I enjoyed a glass of my own, and also enjoyed a long afternoon of compliments from our distinguished guests.   I was so pleased with our William Hill selection."

[Can you guess the below commentary is from our White Wine Expert?]

"First and foremost, I love, love, love this Chardonnay……..I am a HUGE fan of Chardonnay, so I was very excited to have the opportunity to be part of this panel.

The William Hill 2007 Napa Valley Chardonnay grapes were harvested at night between August 22nd and October 6th, in 2007 the weather remained fairly mild, this slowed the ripening of certain varietals and set a good pace for the rest of harvest.  These were harvested at night, as this keeps the grapes fresh.  This was then aged in French and American oak barrels.

This delicious chardonnay is real California style.  It is buttery, with oak, and I taste a hint of cinnamon and other spice.  This differs from other California Chardonnays, in that the flavors are “real”.  There is a good mix of fruit.  The flavor is very complex.  I feel with this wine, they got the balance between the fruit, acid and oak, right on!

When you first try it, you will sense the vanilla and apple.  This Chardonnay is very easy on the palate with little acidity.

This will be a great choice for Thanksgiving Dinner, right around the corner, as it pairs great with white meat.  As the flavor is light and tasty, it makes for a perfect glass before dinner.

The William Hill Chardonnay 2007 was bottled in April 2009 and released in September 2009, so you should order from your local store while stocks last!  You will be pleasantly surprised by the price."

The Whom You Know Champagne Wishes Panel enthusiastically recommends William Hill Chardonnay!

At Home on the Silverado Bench: Winemaker Ralf Holdenried

A winemaker can spend a lifetime searching for the perfect vineyard. In Ralf Holdenried’s case, the vineyard found him.

With an eclectic mix of winemaking experience that spans two continents, Ralf is right at home at William Hill’s benchland estate along the Silverado Trail in southern Napa Valley. From childhood chores on his family’s vineyard in Germany to crafting small lot wines in Napa Valley, Ralf is perfectly poised to bring his wines from the Silverado Bench onto the world stage.

Building on a Winemaking Heritage
Growing up on his family’s vineyard in Reinhessen, Germany, Ralf gained a profound appreciation for cultivating the land. “Winemaking was part of my everyday life,” Ralf explains. “My upbringing helped me understand the importance of the vineyard in the finished wine.”

After an internship at a boutique winery in Germany, Ralf realized that winemaking was more than just a family duty: “Going through crush there – seeing the dynamics in the cellar, working with the grapes and the land, melding equipment and technology to create something that people care about and enjoy – that really inspired me to pursue wine as a career.”

Ralf studied winemaking and viticulture at Germany’s prestigious University of Geisenheim and worked at several wineries in Reinhessen and Nahe, gaining exposure to the full spectrum of winemaking techniques.

Discovering Napa Valley
Ralf later studied fermentation science, viticulture and enology at the University of California at Davis, where he became fascinated with California’s wine culture. “California offers the freedom to move beyond some of the traditional laws of Old World winemaking,” Ralf explains. “Here, I have the flexibility to go in new directions without being confined by conventional customs.”

Ralf joined E. & J. Gallo Winery’s Sonoma County winemaking team in 1998. He earned his MBA at UC Davis and later became winemaking director of Louis M. Martini’s small lot wines. “At Martini’s artisan winery, Cellar 254, I had the incredible opportunity to work with grapes from some of California’s most coveted sites,” says Ralf. “I was involved in the artistry of winemaking in a very hands-on way.”

Finding a Home at William Hill
Today, Ralf applies his breadth of experience to crafting William Hill’s sophisticated, contemporary wines from the Silverado Bench. “We have only begun to tap into the enormous potential of this region,” says Ralf. “Our 140-acre estate vineyard epitomizes the Silverado Bench –concentrated, flavorful grapes that make soft wines. I hope to express the quality of this region with every vintage.”

This incredible vineyard, tucked away in the hills of Napa Valley, has found itself the ideal winemaker.

Resort Peachy: Maui Jim Sunglasses are Perfect! Light, Great Fit, Comfortable

At Whom You Know, sometimes we give you updates if we think a product is especially outstanding.  If our panelists keep talking about how great something is beyond the review process, we think that is fabulous and we feel the need to pass that along!

Unfortunately, as most of our jobs do not require sunglass wear 24/7 (although that may be an aspirational goal?) it is hard to say as a weekend warrior how sunglasses would stand up to a week in the sun.  Our Maui Jim panelist has reported after more than a solid week in the sun that these are the best sunglasses he has ever had!  We quote: "The fit is great, they are so light, and the most comfortable ever!"

We look forward to our continued coverage of this fabulous brand!

Peachy's Turkey went a Little California!

So, Thanksgiving came and went, but unlike other years where Peachy put butter on her turkey, this year she decided to put the EVOO from the California Olive Ranch on it....there was not a test run as we are not in the business of testing turkeys (not now, anyway!) so we were hopeful this would work, and also were confident it would as we love this product in all its varieties on everything else....the turkey was great!  It was quite moist, even the light meat.
Not only did we use the EVOO from the California Olive Ranch on the turkey while it cooked, but the leftover turkey rolls, meant to make turkey sandwiches, were partly used for olive oil dipping!
We love this product!!!

Saturday is a Perfect day to wear Beachy with Peachy-another hit by Lilly Pulitzer!

Beachy is fresh as a breeze and the lovely scent does indeed bring us to the seaside-what could be a better place!  It is a Saturday kind of fragrance: carefree, upbeat, and has hints of fun and unexpected adventures!    Peachy is feeling quite Beachy today!  The Florida attitude in this bottle is something that the other 49 states, New York included, can benefit from!

The stats from Lilly Pulitzer:  Beachy opens with notes of sliced watermelon, sunny citrus, and marine air accord. The heart enchants with jasmine blossom, tiare flower, and lush franipani. The sun sets on the fragrance with a blend of seas crystals, golden amber and sweet vanilla. Follow the sun!

What could be better for the holiday season than an escape with Beachy by Lilly?  It is the days of pandemonium with Manhattan shopping, where it could take an hour to go down 5th Avenue from 57th to 47th....Beachy takes us away!

READ THIS: The Nutcracker Ballet: A Book, Theater, and Paper Doll Fold-Out Play Set By Mara Conlon · Illustrated by Jo Gershman

Young ballerinas can bring the classic NUTCRACKER ballet to life with new Book, Theater, and Paper Doll Fold-Out Play Set

Aspiring young dancers and fans of the ballet have a creative new way to make a timeless classic their own with The Nutcracker Ballet: A Book, Theater, and Paper Doll Fold-Out Play Set from Peter Pauper Press. It’s Christmas Eve and Clara is about to have a magical night—filled with scrumptious sweets, majestic music, and the most beautiful dancing she’s ever seen! Open the covers and a magical world unfolds: three beautiful stages with more than 40 paper doll characters.

A companion 32-page picture book allows readers to follow the tale as they act it out with Clara, godfather Drosselmeyer, the Nutcracker, the Mouse King, the Prince, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and 35 more paper dolls. The characters dance their way through three different stages—Clara’s Living Room, the Enchanted Forest, and the Land of Sweets. When the performance is done, readers simply place storybook and dolls in the provided storage envelope for safekeeping and close the play set stages.

Based on the 1816 story by Romantic writer E. T. A. Hoffman and enlivened by Tchaikovsky’s music, the Nutcracker ballet has been a beloved holiday tradition for decades. The Peter Pauper Press play set edition was adapted by children’s editor and author Mara Conlon, and illustrated by fine artist Jo Gershman.

Our Children's Whom You Know Panel read this book and here is what the parents of the Petite Peachy group had to say:

A little Ballerina’s Fantasy Fulfilled: When I first heard I was having a daughter, I remember daydreaming of taking Piper someday to her first ballet class. Little white tights and a pink leotard. Ballet was first introduced to me at The Chapin School, where ballet was part of their weekly curriculum starting in Kindergarten. It taught me grace, poise and confidence even at a early age. Ballet should be a part of every little girl’s life and now it can. “The Nutcracker Ballet: A Book, Theater and Paper Doll Fold-Out Play Set is an extraordinary gift for girls of all ages. The gift set is a great introduction or a way to feed into their passion for ballet. The book is beautifully bound and organized. Enclosed in its hard bound cover is a soft cover Nutcracker book, an envelope filled with over 40 punch-out paper dolls so that you can keep in good shape and three pop-out stages where you make the magic happen. On those three pop out stages, you can move all of the characters (in the form of paper dolls) from the story including Clara, Sugar Plum Fairies, the Nutcracker and more glide across the stage in whimsical fashion. An elegant and innovative gift to give or receive this holiday season!

THE NUTCRACKER BALLET, A Book, Theater, and Paper Doll Fold-Out Play Set, is a beautifully crafted toy. It introduces children to the Nutcracker Ballet and offers role play during or beyond the reading of the story. With three “sets” and over 40 paper dolls, young readers and even pre-readers can act out the story and create their own scenes. This play set is a throw-back to a time when toys didn’t beep, vibrate, and keep score. It allows children the chance for their imaginations to take center stage. The best part is that it provides a wonderful opportunity for parents and kids to interact and share in the magic. Even if you’ve never seen the ballet, never had any interest in the ballet, this play set is worth a look.

The Nutcracker Ballet. Story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, adapted by Mara Conlon. Illustrated by Ho Gershman. Peter Pauper Press (2007), $14.99.
Few stage performances have become synonymous with Christmas like the Nutcracker. If you’re looking for the perfect gift for a child age 4 or older, check out The Nutcracker Ballet by Peter Pauper Press. This delightful book is more than just a story—it is an exciting playset including 3 pop-out stage sets and more than forty paper dolls—all the Nutcracker characters—in addition to a beautifully illustrated adaptation of the Nutcracker story (32 pp., softcover). The storybook fits neatly into a pocket inside the sturdy hardcover book, which contains the pop-out stage sets and a durable envelope to hold all of the colorful figurines. My daughter absolutely loved this set: she had the story almost entirely memorized the day after we got it. She also finds this book enjoyable because it is more than just a great story—it’s an entire interactive playset. Another feature I like is this: the kit comes with a number of extra stands for the paper dolls in case some get lost or destroyed. Here, the designers at Peter Pauper Press have not only designed a quality product, they have designed a product with children in mind. If you’re looking for a fun way to introduce a young loved-one to the Nutcracker or are looking for a delightful Christmas gift sure to excite, check out The Nutcracker Ballet: A Book, Theater and Paper Doll Fold-Out Playset by Peter Pauper Press.

Whom You Know highly recommends The Nutcracker Ballet!  It should be on your shopping list this Black Friday for all of the little ones on your holiday list.
