READ THIS: LIVE IT, LOVE IT, EARN IT: A Woman’s Guide to Financial Freedom by Marianna Olszewski

Happy New Year!

Whom You Know first became aware of this book through one of our most FABULOUS Movers and Shakers, Ambassador Brenda LaGrange Johnson, as she is one of the women highlighted in Live It, Love It, Earn It.   From the power of “Yes!” to the attitude of gratitude, money expert and life coach Marianna Olszewski shows women how to make their dreams a reality in LIVE IT, LOVE IT, EARN IT: A Woman’s Guide to Financial Freedom (coming early 2010).  Perhaps some of what she addresses are among your New Year's Resolutions?

Although this book is written for a female audience it seems, we believe anyone that needs help being in control of their financial destiny, men included, could benefit from it.    Whom You Know thinks the strongest parts of the book are the pieces with interviews, where accomplished women are quoted:

*Diane Von Furstenberg
"The fact that [my mother] was not even supposed to live makes my birth a miracle, and that certainly influenced me to live life fully every day."
"You have to use rejection and frustration as fuel - it happens all the time, it happens every day...The earlier you become your best friend the better off you will be."

*Ambassador Brenda LaGrange Johnson
"...ask for the job you want."
"Second, seize the moment....President Bush asked, 'Are you interested in an appointment?' I nodded and said, 'I would like to serve.' He looked at me and said, 'Consider yourself under consideration.'"

The book contains mainly common sense, like don't spend more than you have, use cash as much as possible, don't do business with people who don't put terms in writing....we believe many of our readers have mastered such criteria but perhaps a refresher would be nice?   Other valuable lessons like "The moment you say yes to yourself life will improve" hold true.

One of the most respected women on Wall Street, Olszewski earned her money the old fashioned way – with hard work. She began as a New Jersey teenager juggling three jobs and today manages a business worth millions while living her life to the fullest.  In her first book, Olszewski shares her cash-savvy strategies and offers an intimate look at how our emotions are often driving our financial decisions. In the tone of a best girlfriend, Olszewski hands over the tools and the answers to her reader, demystifying the basics of investing while also sharing invaluable advice on everything from finding a mentor to mastering the art of networking to starting your own business.

Marianna Olszewski wasn’t always rich, happy, and fabulous. But her strapped-for-cash childhood motivated her to strive for abundance and financial independence -- goals she exceeded by age thirty as a successful business owner and respected Wall Street player.

A sample of her tips:

Fall in Love with Your Money: Having a cavalier attitude toward money is part of the reason many of us find ourselves in a financial pickle. But when you treat your money with respect, keep track of it and spend and save it wisely your money will always love you back.

Act as If: If you think that change is impossible, think again. Start your transformation by acting as if you already are as successful, intelligent, and prosperous as you want to be.

Say Yes to Yourself: Turn toward people and situations that enhance your life and well being, and away from those that don’t. Until you start affirming your future through both thought and action, your efforts to improve your finances will fall flat.
