Spa Peachy: Dyanna Spa

Dyanna Spa is a neighborhood-type spa located on 21st street in Midtown Manhattan, that has great prices for a bit of a pick-me-up when you need it: like now, in the dead of Winter!

Offering services for men and women, Dyanna Spa is run by Irina Gordon, who will delightfully greet you when you arrive.  We highly recommend making an appointment as the one time we have been there, they were very busy.  Peachy Deegan opted for the 24 karat facial-a facial every now and then certainly is part of our Spa Peachy agenda.  Because they were so busy, when we arrived for our appointment we began with getting a manicure to start with: it is just what you would expect.  Your nails are filed and buffed, but the painting would come later after the facial.

Barbara Afanasyeva is the facial expert and has been doing them for many years.  Unlike other neighborhood-type spas that can be Asian in nature, this one has quite a Russian feel.   We have not written up any spas where the employees speak to each other in languages other than English (At Whom You Know we believe in English being spoken perfectly in every business in America and therefore Manhattan.  We will not write you up if you don't speak to us in ENGLISH) and you do not need to worry about that here; when a spa employee is working on/with you at Dyanna Spa, they are concentrating on you and speaking in English.

We understand the 24 karat facial is for antiaging after 35, and although Peachy is not even approaching 35 she had to try the facial that had gold in it.  It began with a deep facial cleaning followed by a steam machine and scrubber.  Next came the deep cleaning mask which detoxifies.  This was followed by a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer.  Finally the face was ready for the 24 karat serum, which was of course followed by the 24 karat mask.  Working in tandem they perform miracles that you have to experience for yourself.  Peachy's face felt refreshed.  During the last part of the facial Peachy had a hand massage which was quite nice and her hands were wrapped in gloves as well.

Although we went for the facial we have to say we are most pleased with the manicure.  Our favorite part of the whole experience was Olga painting our nails.  There are a lot of people in Manhattan that are good at painting nails: just look at  how many nail places have popped up in the city.  However, there are not a lot of people that are good at painting nails and are personable and can talk about hockey too, and answer Peachy's ten million questions about whatever service she is having so Olga won points with Peachy.   She is a perfectionist and it just so happens we had had red nailpolish on before, which is always a bear to get off perfectly, but Olga did.  We notice when people leave little spots behind, and Olga did not.  Olga was even nice to us before she knew we would be writing about her.  We are always amazed when someone else flawlessly does the little white strip of the french manicure freehand.  Days later our hands still look beautiful.

Dyanna Spa is at 40 East 21st Street between Park and Broadway; take a look!
