Champagne Wishes: BLACK BOX 2008 CALIFORNIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY WHOM YOU KNOW. We are pleased to kick off our coverage of Black Box Wines and We Love Them!

BLACK BOX WINES, which introduced America’s first super premium boxed wine in January 2003, offers consumers high-end wines at everyday prices.  Whom You Know recently learned of this outstanding brand and we think this line is perfect for your summer outings at the beach, by the pool, and anywhere you want to go this Memorial Day weekend. From an excursion out east to simply going to Central Park, we love Black Box wine.  The design is smart, the spigot does not leak, and you don't have to worry about glass breaking.  Best of all for those of us in Manhattan, the box is a great way to utilize space!  One box is the equivalent of four bottles.  And of course, the most important aspect is that they produce high-quality, super premium boxed wine from premier wine-growing regions.   We began with the Cabernet Sauvignon, which is one of Peachy's most favorite types of wine.

2008 CALIFORNIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Full and flavorful, the Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the best we've had.  Some that Peachy Deegan shared this with think it's better than the best Cabs they've had in a bottle.  It has a soft feel in the mouth and has hints of cherry and blackberry.  We love it with our favorite box of chocolate!  The Cabernet is a full-bodied wine displaying lovely aromas of black currants with hints of vanilla and toasty oak.  Flavors of juicy blackberries and chocolate come together with smooth tannins, leading to a soft and lingering finish. The wine pairs well with filet mignon and roast duck as well as wild mushroom ravioli and is versatile enough to be casual as well, pairing perfectly with hamburgers and summer food.  It is well-balanced and tasty, and has some hints of a Shiraz.  Easy to drink and very irresistible, it also goes well with pasta and hangar steaks.  Black Box is a sophisticated brand, easy to store, and the packaging is sexy.

Years ago while traveling in Europe, Black Box founder Ryan Sproule was amazed at how many Europeans drank premium-quality box wines. They favored freshness, value and convenience over tradition. By forgoing expensive bottles in favor of bag-in-a-box packaging, European vintners were providing their customers with better wines at better prices.

When Ryan returned to the U.S., he was surprised there were no high-end box wines available. He decided to rectify the situation by establishing Black Box. In 2003, Black Box became the first U.S. vintner to offer super-premium, appellation-specific, vintage-dated wines in a box – wines whose last sip is reliably as good as the first.

Today, they’re proud to offer a full range of high end box wines crafted from grapes grown in the world’s best winegrowing regions.
