READ THIS: London at Night by Jason Hawkes, Introduction by Kenneth Powell

Earlier this week, we reviewed New York at Night:
http://www.whomyouknow.com/2010/11/read-this-new-york-at-night-by-jason.html

When Peachy Deegan was deciding what to read, originally she picked London at Night because she used to live in London and she misses it.  She can walk out her door and see New York at Night, she thought.

Well, after reading both books now she's decided they should be sold as a set.  London is our second biggest readership after New York, and we think these cities go together.  Although she does live in New York, she does not hang out of a helicopter at night for fun checking out the sites so the New York book is in fact a unique experience.  And we loved the London one even more as it is really so less convenient to see London at night...

Our absolute favorite is the London Eye captured in London at Night, and we found it funny that the Canary Wharf area is classified as American style as that's where Peachy used to live; she even could see in the pictures her exact location then.  London is far less vertical than New York so the contrast between the two which is evident during the day is heightened at night with the gorgeous nightscapes.

The sites of the 2012 Olympics look like they're off to a brilliant start, and photos of the popular West End will look familiar to many of us.  However, there will be spots that you will learn about that you didn't know before that really adds value to the knowledge you bring to your next trip to London.

Whom You Know highly recommends London at Night; and, we think the best idea of all is to buy it along with New York at Night.  Whether you live on the English side of the pond or here, or neither, you will be delighted by the visual intelligence that Jason Hawkes exudes with every shot published in each.  Who knows, maybe you will even take to hanging out of a helicopter at night someday....Peachy prefers to look at the books on her coffee table though.

London at Night
Jason Hawkes
Introduction by Kenneth Powell
London at Night is a fascinating tour of the city as seen through the lens of award-winning aerial photographer Jason Hawkes. The images, taken from a helicopter, offer a fresh perspective on such familiar landmarks as the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul's Cathedral and the 'Gherkin', as well as unexpected views of daily life in the capital: office blocks are deserted as commuters make their way home through busy traffic, shoppers crowd a festively lit Regent Street, and tourists and revellers head for the bars and theatres of the West End. By night even the sweeping, illuminated curves of a junction on the M25 have a certain beauty. Accompanied by informative captions and an introduction by Kenneth Powell, Hawkes's photographs bring the city to life and make a captivating book that will appeal to anyone interested in London's ever-changing landscape.
