Swarovski Elements 22 Ways to Say Black Exhibition

UNDER THE HIGH-PATRONAGE OF CARLA BRUNI-SARKOZY, SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS and Nadja Swarovski PRESENT 22 WAYS TO SAY BLACK

A CHARITY AUCTION OF ORIGINAL COUTURE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PHILLIPS DE PURY & COMPANY TO BENEFIT BREAST CANCER RESEARCH

SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS has commissioned 22 of fashion’s most notable known names and talented newcomers to design one-of-a-kind little black dresses for the initiative 22 Ways To Say Black. On September 20, 2010 at the acclaimed gallery, Phillips de Pury & Company in New York City, under the high-patronage of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the one-of-a-kind dresses will be auctioned off by Simon de Pury, with 100% of the proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society and La ligue nationale contre le cancer in France.

Black has often been referred to as “basic,” but in the world of fashion, the celebrated “little black dress” is anything but. A starting point of haute couture both modern and in times past, the “little black dress” is where creative talent has truly shined.  Peachy Deegan loves the little black dresses from Donna Ricco the best!

With this in mind, SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS commissioned Giorgio Armani Privé, Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, Lanvin by Alber Elbaz, Sonia Rykiel, Vivienne Westwood, among other designers, to explore the aesthetic possibilities of precision cut crystals and the iconic little black dress. These original creations, all embellished with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, are now being put to their highest purpose, to be auctioned off to benefit the American Cancer Society and La ligue national contre le cancer, two leading cancer charities.

Throughout New York Fashion Week, beginning September 7 through September 20, visitors to the New York Meatpacking District outpost of Phillips de Pury & Company can preview these unique pieces which will be on display prior to the auction on the evening of the September 20. After the auction there will be an exclusive cocktail hosted by Nadja Swarovski, Vice President of International Communications.

One hundred percent of the proceeds of the auction and its accompanying catalogue, 22 Ways to Say Black, will benefit the designated charities. Published by Éditions Dilecta, the noted Paris-based art publishing house, the catalogue is available on Amazon.com and at select outlets in the United States and abroad. For a full list of distribution outlets in the United States and abroad, please visit www.swarovski-elements.com/black

“We are thrilled to be associated with this exciting event benefiting a worthwhile cause. Swarovski proves with it that it is at the forefront in art, design and fashion. They have enrolled some of today’s greatest fashion designers to give the ultimate edge to the little black dress.” Simon de Pury, Chairman.

General Motors Celebrates Arrival of Chevrolet Volt in China

  • First electric vehicle with extended-range capability
  • Available in domestic market in 2011
  • Joining Expo 2010 VIP fleet
  • Showcases technology beyond the battery with OnStar mobile application
Shanghai – General Motors celebrated the arrival of the first drivable Chevrolet Volt in China today. China is one of the initial markets outside the United States to receive the Volt. GM’s landmark electric vehicle with extended-range capability will go on sale locally next year.
“GM has made a long-term commitment to bringing our industry-leading technology to China,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group. “This is enabling us to provide the best mobility solutions for addressing the transportation challenges associated with the growth in demand for personal mobility. With GM taking the lead, the development of electric vehicles is opening up entirely new industries.”
During today’s celebration, GM delivered two Chevrolet Volts to the Shanghai Expo Bureau for use as part of its VIP transportation fleet at World Expo 2010 Shanghai. The Volt will shuttle special guests to and from Shanghai’s Expo Park and demonstrate GM’s pathway to its vision of sustainable urban transportation.
According to Wale, “The Volt is a vehicle that makes no compromises. It reduces our dependency on petroleum and cuts emissions, offers a total driving range of about 500 kilometers, and is powered by electricity at all times. It provides users the latest technology, outstanding innovation and something no other electric vehicle can offer – peace of mind.”
The Volt is the only electric vehicle that can operate under a range of climates and driving conditions with little concern of being stranded by a depleted battery. For up to the first 60 kilometers, the Volt drives gas- and tailpipe-emissions-free using electricity stored in its 16-kWh lithium-ion battery. When the Volt’s battery runs low, a gasoline-powered range-extending engine/generator seamlessly operates to extend the driving range another 450 kilometers on a full tank. This eliminates so-called “range anxiety.”
The Volt will be available in China with the OnStar in-vehicle safety, security and communication service. Chevrolet and OnStar developed the automotive industry’s first working smartphone application system that will allow Volt owners to set the charge time, start their vehicle, track mileage, unlock doors and much more from a smartphone or home computer on a 24/7 basis. The Chevrolet Volt OnStar smartphone application is designed to enhance the overall Volt ownership experience with interaction and control never offered before on any electric vehicle.

GOTHAM GADGETS CONTINUES OUR COVERAGE OF MICROSOFT: One Note: Microsoft Works

We told you, Microsoft Works WORKS:
http://www.whomyouknow.com/2010/08/gotham-gadgets-microsoft-works-works.html
A bit about One Note now!

How can OneNote help me?
Something for everyone
OneNote is an idea processor, a notebook, an information organizer — some even call it an "add-on pack for your brain". Many people find OneNote indispensible once they start using it and we hope you do too!
OneNote can help if you need to:
  • Make sure you don't lose any information that you think is important
  • Organize scraps of information that don't fit well into e-mail, calendar, or formal documents
  • Gather and refer back to notes from meetings or lectures
  • Collect research from the Web or other sources and annotate it for yourself or others
  • Keep track of what you need to do next and not miss anything
  • Work closely with other people on a project sharing notes and files
OneNote will complement your activities in Microsoft® Office Outlook®, Word, and other programs in the Microsoft Office system through several integration features.
Capture ideas and gather information
You can quickly capture meeting notes, brainstorming notes, ideas and thoughts, audio from discussions, video from interviews, diagrams, and so on using the keyboard, pen or the recording capabilities in OneNote. You can also gather clippings from the Web, e-mail, miscellaneous materials for projects, customers, and classes, files, pictures, and so on using convenient integration with your Web browser and the Office system.
Keep things organized
With OneNote, all this information stays in one place. It is easy to organize it, or pile it together  (if that’s your preference), and then search and find it again — even words in pictures and audio or video recordings! Since OneNote uses the familiar concept of notebooks divided into sections with pages, you can get going right away.
Be prepared
Having all this information at your fingertips will keep you always prepared: for the next meeting, for writing a final document or e-mail message, for doing a task, for talking to a customer, for going on a trip, and so on. You can flag items in your notebooks as Important or To Do and then quickly gather summaries of information you have flagged this way. OneNote is fully customizable so you can adapt it to your work style.
A team effort
You can also work with your whole team — in a shared notebook that everybody can edit at the same time and view even while not connected to the network. OneNote seamlessly merges the changes each time anyone updates the notebook. A shared notebook is a great way to see what information the team has gathered, what files and notes are available as sources, even what action items remain for the team to work on.

From the earliest days of UCP’s Women’s Leagues to the thousands who gave of their time to launch and sustain the nation’s first annual telethon, to today’s program volunteers and those who serve on committees like the Women Who Care Luncheon—the extraordinary ongoing dedication and inspirational spirit of New Yorkers as Volunteers has been the hallmark of the organizations sustainability. Volunteers have come from all walks of life and ranged from dedicated housewives, enlisted officers, Wall Street executives, top athletes to hundreds of celebrities and VIPS including Princess Diana, John F. Kennedy Jr., The Beatles, Muhammad Ali and several Former Presidents & First Ladies – Bill & Hillary Clinton, Ronald & Nancy Reagan, Gerald & Betty Ford and Dwight D. & Mamie Eisenhower.

United Cerebral Palsy is the largest healthcare charity in America for people with disabilities. Nearly 500,000 individuals in the United States and 35,000 people in the metropolitan New York area have cerebral palsy or a related disability.  Each year, over 14,000 children, adults and their families benefit from the extensive educational, healthcare, employment, housing, technology and research services provided by UCP of New York City.  Earlier this year, Whom You Know was pleased to cover the 9th Annual Women Who Care Luncheon benefitting United Cerebral Palsy of New York City:

The Special Volunteer Appreciation Event Celebrating 65 years of Volunteerism will be hosted by Rosanna Scotto, Co-Host of Fox 5 Television’s “Good Day New York.” Ms. Scotto has a long association with United Cerebral Palsy of New York City – she has personally volunteered for many years to the organization and helped raise awareness for children and adults living with disabilities.

Donna Hanover, former First Lady of New York City and the longtime Host of The Women Who Care Luncheon held each spring at Cipriani 42nd Street benefitting UCP/NYC will discuss “Women Who Care.” Timothy Mandala, who was a Celebrity Presenter at this year’s 9th Annual Women Who Care Luncheon and stars in three upcoming movies, will present the winners of a special painting auction.

Over 200 New York Volunteers will attend the event as well as Edward R. Matthews, CEO of United Cerebral Palsy of New York City; John Lombardo, Vice President of the Bank of New York and other VIPS. Special volunteers will be speaking at the event.

“Over the past 65 years, United Cerebral Palsy of New York City has counted on the extraordinary efforts of thousands of volunteers,” says Edward R. Matthews, CEO of United Cerebral Palsy of New York City. “The volunteers span all ages and come from all walks of life. We wanted to acknowledge the importance of their work, applaud their spirit and deep sense of community. Our volunteers continue to help us in our ongoing mission to change lives.”

The program will take place at approximately 7:20 p.m. and will last 20 minutes. We hope you can build time into your busy schedule to help bring much needed acknowledgement to these dedicated volunteers who are helping every day to change the lives of children and adults living with disabilities in the Greater New York City area. The mission of United Cerebral Palsy of New York City is to create opportunities for people with disabilities to lead independent and
