2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Begins Regular Production at Oshawa Assembly Plant

Rick Hendrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. today visited Oshawa Assembly Plant to mark the start of regular production for the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, which will arrive at U.S. dealerships beginning in February.

Hendrick, a Camaro enthusiast who purchased the first 2010 Camaro coupe offered for sale, has now also purchased the first Camaro Convertible available to the public. In both cases, Rick Hendrick acquired the purchase rights through Barrett-Jackson auctions, with all proceeds benefitting charitable causes.

“I grew up loving the Chevrolet brand, and I’ve never raced anything else,” Hendrick said. “As a Chevy enthusiast, it’s been exciting to see the Camaro return as such a world-class, high-performance car. The folks in Oshawa make some of the best products on the road, so the opportunity to meet them and thank them for what they do is a real privilege.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr., a driver for Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, was also present at the celebration and added, “Chevrolet has been a great partner on and off the track, and I’m very happy to be here on this special day. While I still enjoy my 1972 Camaro, I can’t wait to take home one of these awesome new convertibles.”

The 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible starts at $30,000, including destination, equipped with a 3.6L V-6 delivering 312 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. The Camaro Convertible SS starts at $37,500, including destination, equipped with a 6.2L V-8 delivering 426 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque.

GM Launches New Syndicated TV Series, ‘Inside the Vault’

General Motors is teaming up with a variety of media partners to create a new TV series aimed at entertaining and informing today’s “classic” man.

“Inside the Vault,” which begins airing on WGN America and 18 Tribune broadcast affiliates this Friday (Feb. 4), will showcase stories, insights and conversation, providing a variety of perspectives on how men live today.

“New times call for new approaches,” said GM’s Global Chief Marketing Officer Joel Ewanick. “’Inside the Vault’ represents an exciting and different avenue for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac to connect with audiences and create an environment that is different from anything that’s being done in TV today.”

“Inside the Vault” will present a variety of topics relevant to men; episode themes will include gadgets, travel, fitness, food and sports. The series includes lifestyle segments from experts at Conde Nast, with automotive editorial provided by Source Interlink, the publisher behind Motor Trend magazine.

The 10-episode season is hosted by Cris Collinsworth, a former NFL wide receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals and an Emmy-winning television personality whose credits include NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” and Showtime’s “Inside the NFL,” along with Alonzo Bodden of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and Jill Wagner, who currently co-hosts ABC’s “Wipeout.”

Telepictures Productions, a division of Warner Brothers, is another partner in this effort, which is being led by GM’s media agency of record, Starcom USA and content-creation agency LiquidThread.

“We want the audience to be able to watch ‘Inside the Vault’ anywhere and catch it at any time,” Ewanick said. The series will appear online at www.insidethevault.tv, which launches on Thursday (Feb. 3). Content will extend across Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Vimeo and Get Glue.

Syndicated television broadcasts will include commercials for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles. The show will feature vehicles from these brands as part of its content, when relevant, but focuses on the viewer experience and omits “sponsored by” branding.

The 30-minute program will air on WGN America and on 18 Tribune affiliates including PIX11 New York; KTLA Los Angeles; WGN Chicago; WPHL Philadelphia; KDAF Dallas; WDCW Washington, D.C.; KIAH Houston; WKBD Detroit; KZJO Seattle; WSFL Miami; KTXL Sacramento; KRCW Portland; WXIN Indianapolis; KSWB San Diego; WTIC Hartford; WPMT Harrisburg; WXMI Grand Rapids, and WNOL New Orleans. Terrific Takeout: Vespa

Vespa is a terrific, hip Italian place on the Upper East side that has been around for years, and we don't want you to forget one tiny thing about it in both the wintertime and in the commotion that is called the second avenue subway by the MTA...so Peachy checked it out for the takeout column. We started with the Insalatina Mista-mixed greens, arugula, and tomatoes and they did put the dressing on the side, as requested. So fresh, this was the angelic beginning to a wonderful meal.

It always is a smart thing to ask a restaurant what their specials are...and Peachy asked Vespa. A special of the night was the wonderfully juicy Ribeye steak which was grilled just right to medium well, as requested. Sometimes we like to be a bit tricky with restaurants of a certain genre and see if they can do entrees outside of their regular fare-of course Vespa is Italian so we wanted to see how good the steak was and we can verify that it was a good one! The accompanying mushrooms and garlic made it a real winner.

The grand finale was a pear tarte. This may be the first pear tarte we've ever reviewed and we love the imagination of Vespa for being original!

Gigi is a great manager and his wife has a great sense of style-her ipad case even matched her scarf and she was delightful to chat with.

Vespa is terrific takeout!

What do you think the best Italian restaurants are in New York and why?

Honestly, I cook fresh everyday and buy all my food from the organic
market. I go out less and less; but I do love the Lasagna Verde at Osteria Morini because it is made the way my mom used to make it in Italy.

What are your favorite Italian shoe designers and what do you like about them?

Prada has eclectic designs and fit really well.

Tell us a good story about Carol Brodie. She has raved about you for ages.

Every story about Carol is a good one because she creates great energy
around her.

We think Carol's jewelry line is just for women. If she made one for
men what would you wear from it?
Carol makes unisex jewelry... I have a diamond cross bracelet on onyx
beads from her; actually she has been getting a lot of press on these.
She just showed me a new line of "karma" bracelets for men. I would like her to also make a diamond buddah necklace.

What do you miss most about Italy?

The food; the art; the language; the color of the landscape; living in
the moment and enjoying the beauty of every day... it is the Italian
way.

What should Peachy Deegan add to her Italian vocabulary? Something about hairstyling?

I miei capelli sono bellissimi [English translation: My Hair is Beautiful!]

What or who has had the most influence on your pursuit of excellence?

My parents showed me unconditional love and with that feeling I have
been able to achieve whatever I have set my heart on.

What are you proudest of and why?

I am most proud that I can live each day with purity, honesty and
integrity.

What would you like to do professionally that you have not yet had the opportunity to do?

Teach yoga

What is your favorite place to be in Manhattan?

Central Park in the spring with the blooming trees and flowers.

What is your favorite shop in Manhattan?

Barney's for fashion and the organic market in Union Square for food

What is your favorite drink?

Moscato wine or fresh vegetable and fruit juices.

What is your favorite Manhattan book?

I read about philosophy; in Manhattan I like to pour through art books
at The Strand.

If you could have anything in Manhattan named after you what would it be and why?

A healing center for children... there are too many children in
Manhattan who are suffering.

What has been your best Manhattan athletic experience?

Yoga at Ishta Yoga

What is your favorite thing to do in Manhattan that you can do nowhere else?

Go to the Metropolitan Museum

What has been your best Manhattan art or music experience?

The Dalai Lama in Central Park

What do you personally do or what have you done to give back to the world?

I emotionally, creatively and financially support those less fortunate.

What do you think is most underrated and overrated here?

Spirituality is highly underrated; restaurants are overrated.
