Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Exhibition Extended Through August 7 at Metropolitan Museum Special Ticketed Monday Viewing Hours to Begin on June 6

The Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition organized by The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art has been extended by one week. The new closing date is August 7. The exhibition, which opened to the public on May 4, has already drawn more than 180,000 visitors.
Because of the high demand, the Museum will also introduce Met Mondays with McQueen—a program offering new, additional hours that the exhibition galleries will be open—beginning on June 6. Visitors may purchase tickets for special viewings on upcoming Mondays when the Museum is closed to the public. Monday access will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The special viewing rate will be $50 per person with entries on the half hour, and will include a free Audio Guide to the exhibition. Tickets will be available in early June on-site at the Met as well as on the Museum’s website at www.metmuseum.org/alexandermcqueen. (Met Mondays with McQueen will not be offered on Monday, July 4, because it is a Met Holiday Monday, one of the annual series of Monday holidays when the Museum’s galleries are open to the public.)
On Tuesdays through Sundays, through the run of the exhibition, Museum Members are provided express entry to the exhibition, allowing them to skip the lines to enter the exhibition. Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty has been drawing crowds since opening day, May 4, which had the highest attendance of any public opening day for a Costume Institute exhibition; that attendance was second at the Met only to that of Vincent van Gogh: The Drawings in 2005.
The exhibition is made possible by Alexander McQueen™.
Additional support is provided in partnership with American Express and Condé Nast.

Clean Up a|MEN|ity Gel Face Cleanser Highly Recommended by the Gentlemen of Whom You Know! Whom You Know is Pleased to Kick Off Our Coverage of Amenity

Whom You Know is pleased to kick off our coverage of
a|MEN|ity!
The distinguished gentlemen rave:

Amenity recently came out with a gel face cleanser that is simply fantastic.  Coming in a 3.25 oz black dispenser bottle, this cleanser leaves your face feeling super clean and fresh.  I followed the directions to wet my face then apply the gel.  It has a nice fragrance to it, not too strong like a lot of the leading brands, but just enough for you to know it’s there, which I liked.  It goes on thick, but washes away easily so there isn’t much residue to scrub off.  Within seconds of washing it off your skin feels rejuvenated and clean.  It is the perfect cleanser and aftershave.  Not only a cleanser, but oil control and anti-aging ingredients makes this a must-try product.  Their patent pending complex ingredient called PRO-FORM 6 is said to be setting the standards for all facial cleansers.  I highly recommend trying this product out- you and your face will be more than happy you did.

A few weeks ago, I noticed that my face had been feeling quite dry, and when I looked in the mirror my skin had been looking red.  I decided it was time to start looking for a good face cleanser and moisturizer.  I tried a few brands from the pharmacy that I had heard of before, but none of them seemed to make much difference.  Then I tried Amenity Gel Face Cleanser.  Within just a few days of using it, I have noticed a huge difference in the way my skin looks and feels.  My complexion has returned to its normal color, and in fact, I might even say it's glowing now!  My skin feels so smooth and soft now, and I even have even fewer bumps and less irritation after shaving!  If you are a man looking for a great product to moisturize and sooth your face, check out Amenity Gel Face Cleanser.  Your skin will thank you!

Getting my husband to use a face wash is, well...let's just say that it is more likely that pigs will fly! My husband is a manly man...he works on trucks, he builds things, he kills bugs with his bare hands (ugh!!). He doesn't use face wash. In fact, as long as I have known him, my husband has used his old standby, Irish Spring, on both his body and his face. When I showed him A|MEN|ity and asked him to give it a try, he stared at me blankly. I left the (what I thought was) a very cool, manly looking box on the bathroom sink never to be mentioned again. A few days later I noticed the box had been opened and the bottle was in the shower. I said nothing. A|MEN|ity is a great product formulated specifically for men. It has a rapid delivery system which allows it to be absorbed quickly into the skin. The active ingredients help to combat signs of aging skin, ingrown hairs, and redness and softens the beard for shaving. This product also features PRO-FORM 6 (a patent pending complex), Rutin which works with Willow Bark (a natural form of salicylic acid) to smooth skin's surface and jasmine extract. A|MEN|ityproducts never contain alcohol or fragrance. I must say, my hubby's face feels soft and smooth and looks all the more handsome after using this product. Maybe we can say "adios" to the ol' Irish Spring and "hello" toA|MEN|ity? Silently, of course, because my husband will never admit to using a face wash!

My wife is always trying to get me to try her products (whatever they are). I don't need to smell like lavendar. I don't need bubbles. I just need good men's products that work and are easy. Amenity has delivered. I like when things are cut and dry like Amenity. They work with chemists and doctors, period. Good and easy enough for me to use and I feel like it delivered -- clean and simple.

As an athletic active man, my head and face get majorly sweaty. My pores get clogged easily and I am not that into using product besides, soap and water in the shower. That said, my wife put me on the aMENity Gel Facial Cleaner. I keep it in the shower and lather it on my face every morning. It definitely cleans my pores and my face is not as dry afterwards as it is from just using soap. I like that it is made for a man, as it does not have a girly scent and the packaging is not feminine either. Apparently it also helps firm the skin and helps prevent aging spots which is something I am not actively seeking but I guess it cannot hurt. Perfect for the active man!

Amenity Gel Face Cleanser is a great product for any man who is looking to take care of his skin and complexion.  The gel promises to cleanse, exfoliate, control oil and breakouts, and prevent signs of aging.  So far, after using it just one week, I can say that Amenity is making good on all its promises.  My skin feels much softer and smoother already.  I sometimes have problems with oily skin, but this past week, my skin has felt perfect.  I also really like that the gel has no added fragrances.  One problem I have with many other facial cleansers is that they all smell like perfume!  Amenity's cleanser just smells clean and fresh.  I highly recommend Amenity's Gel Face Cleanser, and I am looking forward to how my skin will look in the weeks to come!  Pick some up, and see and feel the difference for yourself!

function Gel Face Cleanser kicks off the Amenity daily cleanse+shave+treat system, working to deep clean, gently exfoliate, control oil and prevent breakouts. Gel Face Cleanser’s rapid delivery system allows nourishing ingredients to absorb into skin quickly. So, even after the product is rinsed away, active ingredients stay behind to reinforce the system’s effectiveness against signs of aging, ingrown hairs, redness & patchiness and softens the beard for shaving.
ingredients Each Amenity product features PRO-FORM 6patent-pending complex ingredients in a ratio blend specific to the product’s function. Gel Face Cleanser packs an extra payload of Rutin, which works synergistically with Willow Bark (a natural form of salicylic acid) to smooth skin’s surface in preparation for shaving. Gel Face Cleanser incorporates refreshing Jasmine Extract and, like all Amenity products is, alcohol-, oil-, fragrance-, and cruelty-free.
size 3.25 oz – Product lasts 45 days
problems solved:
Ă¼  Age Control
Ă¼  Acne Control
Ă¼  Dry Skin
Ă¼  Ingrown Hairs
Ă¼  Uneven Skin Tone

If you've been saving time in the shower by washing your face with your regular body soap or shampoo, you're making a mistake. Sure, you'll save a few minutes, but you'll likely end up spending all of that saved time trying to find a moisturizer to fix the dryness. No man wants to be bothered with using a cleanser, let alone an exfoliation scrub or dabbing on anti-aging cream, that's why Amenity's first ever facial cleanser deeply cleans and gently exfoliates, all while working against ingrown hairs, evening skin tone and bolstering up the skins youthful appearance with ingredients like willow bark extract, Pro-Vitamin B5, and supercharged liposomal vitamins A,C, E that actually absorb into your skin in this five-in-one solution. That's right, there's finally an opportunity to minimize signs of aging from occurring without the extra steps. And that's an opportunity you should take, because Mick Jagger may have no trouble scoring in his sixties, but you're going to need all the help you can get when you reach his age.

Alexander McQueen was one extraordinary talent, so it comes as no surprise that the best museum in Manhattan, the Met, has dedicated this year's fashion extravaganza to his work and you cannot miss this fabulous literary companion by Andrew Bolton, published by the Yale University Press.  We highly recommend it and we suggest you read the whole book in its entirety before going to the exhibit.  Of course, Peachy went to the press preview so she read it after going to the exhibit, however she does want to go back to get the full effect of having read the book with all of the depth of background it covers.   We only wish Lee himself were here to see both the exhibit and the book....we can't decide what we like best-the photography in the book or the stories themselves.  We love the intensity of McQueen and his total intellect and depth of caring about subject matters.  We love the dress made of clam shells.  We love his eye for detail and the sharp lines depicted in especially the all black basic numbers we see in the book, and we'd love them even more if Peachy was wearing one right now.  But she can read the book, and she can go to the Met, and we highly suggest you do the same.

A stunning overview of the career of designer
Alexander McQueen, whose iconic and intricate fashions challenged the conventional parameters of clothing

New Haven, CT and New York, NY—Alexander McQueen (1969-2010) was one of the most influential, imaginative, and inspirational designers at the turn of the millennium. His fashions both challenged and expanded the conventional parameters of clothing beyond utility to a compelling expression of culture, politics, and identity. Focusing on the most iconic and acclaimed designs of his prolific career, this stunning book examines McQueen's inimitable technical virtuosity and its subversion of traditional tailoring and dressmaking practices.

The book also focuses on the highly sophisticated narrative structures found in McQueen's collections and in his astonishing and extravagant runway presentations, which suggested the most avant-garde installation and performance art. Intended as an assessment of Alexander McQueen's entire career, the book includes in-depth studies of six collections that illustrate and encapsulate thematic chapters as well as an interview with Sarah Burton, the new creative director of Alexander McQueen who had been the designer's right-hand design aide since 1996.

Alexander McQueen's Iconic Designs in Costume Institute Retrospective at Metropolitan Museum

  • May 4–July 31, 2011
The spring 2011 Costume Institute exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, is on view May 4 through July 31. The exhibition celebrates the late Mr. McQueen's extraordinary contributions to fashion. From his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection in 1992 to his final runway presentation, which took place after his death in February 2010, Mr. McQueen challenged and expanded our understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, politics, and identity.
The exhibition is made possible by Alexander McQueen™.
Additional support is provided in partnership with American Express and Condé Nast.
"Alexander McQueen's iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion," said Thomas P. Campbell, Director of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. "This landmark exhibition continues the Museum's tradition of celebrating designers who changed the course of history and culture by creating new possibilities."
To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, the Museum's Costume Institute Benefit takes place on Monday, May 2, 2011. The evening's Honorary Chairs are François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek, and the Co-Chairs are Colin Firth, Stella McCartney, and Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue. This fundraising event is The Costume Institute's main source of annual funding for exhibitions, acquisitions, and capital improvements.
"Alexander McQueen was best known for his astonishing and extravagant runway presentations, which were given dramatic scenarios and narrative structures that suggested avant-garde installation and performance art," said Andrew Bolton, Curator, The Costume Institute. "His fashions were an outlet for his emotions, an expression of the deepest, often darkest, aspects of his imagination. He was a true romantic in the Byronic sense of the word – he channeled the sublime."
Exhibition Overview
The exhibition, in the Metropolitan Museum's second-floor Cantor Galleries, features approximately 100 ensembles and 70 accessories from Mr. McQueen's prolific 19-year career. Drawn primarily from the Alexander McQueen Archive in London, with some pieces from the Givenchy Archive in Paris as well as private collections, signature designs including the bumster trouser, the kimono jacket, and the three-point "origami" frock coat are on view. McQueen's fashions often referenced the exaggerated silhouettes of the 1860s, 1880s, 1890s, and 1950s, but his technical ingenuity always imbued his designs with an innovative sensibility that kept him at the vanguard.
Galleries showcase recurring themes and concepts in McQueen's work. "The Romantic Mind" examines his technical ingenuity, which combined the precision of tailoring and patternmaking with the spontaneity of draping and dressmaking. "Romantic Gothic" highlights McQueen's historicism, particularly his engagement with the Victorian Gothic, and dichotomies such as life and death. "Romantic Nationalism" looks at McQueen's patriotic impulses, including his reflections on his Scottish heritage and his fascination with British history. "Romantic Exoticism" explores the influence of other cultures on the designer's imagination, especially China and Japan. "Romantic Primitivism" captures McQueen's engagement with the ideal of the "noble savage," while "Romantic Naturalism" considers his enduring interest in raw materials and forms from nature.
Six McQueen collections that explore his engagement with the Romantic sublime and the dialectics of beauty and horror are featured as groupings in the galleries – Highland Rape (autumn/winter 1995-96), Number 13 (spring/ summer 1999), VOSS (spring/summer 2001), Irere (spring/summer 2003),Plato's Atlantis (spring/summer 2010), and Angels and Demons (autumn/winter 2010-11). "Cabinet of Curiosities" includes various atavistic and fetishized accessories produced in collaboration with the milliners Dai Rees and Philip Treacy, and the jewelers Shaun Leane, Erik Halley, and Sarah Harmarnee. The Cabinet also displays video highlights from ten of McQueen's renowned runway presentations, including Joan (autumn/winter 1998–99), What a Merry-Go-Round (autumn/winter 2001–02), and They Shoot Horses Don't They? (spring/summer 2004).

The exhibition is organized by Andrew Bolton, Curator, with the support of Harold Koda, Curator in Charge, both of the Met's Costume Institute. A book, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty by Andrew Bolton, accompanies the exhibition.  It features a thematic overview of Mr. McQueen's career, with an introduction by Susannah Frankel, fashion editor of The Independent, and an interview by Tim Blanks with Sarah Burton, creative director for Alexander McQueen, who worked closely with the designer for 14 years.  It features new photography by Sølve Sundsbø, who shot ensembles from the McQueen archive on live models, then retouched the images to make them look like mannequins. The images combine the movement of an editorial shoot with the authority of a museum catalogue. Quotes from Alexander McQueen, exhaustively researched by Bolton, are paired with the images to enhance understanding of the designer's viewpoint. A lenticular cover image was designed by McQueen for the invitation to his spring/summer 2009 fashion show. The book ($45 for a hardcover) is published by The Metropolitan Museum of Art and distributed worldwide by Yale University Press.
An audio tour, narrated by Andrew Bolton, provides additional insight into the exhibition via interviews with 16 of McQueen's collaborators and friends including Sarah Burton, Naomi Campbell, Shalom Harlow, Shaun Leane, Annabelle Neilson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Philip Treacy. It is available for rental ($7, $6 for members, and $5 for children under 12).
The Audio Guide is sponsored by Bloomberg.
A series of gallery talks explore the art and literature that inspired McQueen's designs. On June 19, Harold Koda and Aimee Mullins, the athlete and model who appeared in McQueen runway shows, discuss art, beauty, and the unique body. On May 20, the College Group at the Met hosts an evening of events including a panel discussion with fashion consultant Julie Gilhart and Parsons Professor Shelley Fox, as well as a display of a juried design contest and the announcement of the winner. Fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson speaks and teens create wearable art inspired by the exhibition on June 11.
The Museum's website at www.metmuseum.org/alexandermcqueen features the exhibition and additional information on these programs.

Dr. Garo Nazarian is a Mover and Shaker:

Peachy feels a bit like the count on Sesame Street, but she is really just counting her shoes from Italy using Rosetta Stone!  Uno, due, tre, quattro, cinque, sie, sette, otto, nove, dieci, undici, dodici, tredici, quattordici, quindici, sedici, diciassette, diciotto, dicannove....and that is as far as she can go right now.   Amo Le Scarpe Italiane! She's halfway through Italian Level One and she's finished Units 1 & 2.  And she's not the only one...everyone she talks to it seems has had a positive Rosetta Stone experience.  It's all over the city as well....we were just in Columbus Circle at Porter House (fabulous takeout-read our review!) and she walked by the Rosetta Stone booth.

What do we like about Rosetta Stone?  We love the ease of use.  We love the clarity of instruction.  We love how you learn at your own level.  If you are in a class, there are always going to be people faster and slower than you unless you are a total smarty-pants and we do know a few of those.  But even if you are in the top percentage intellectually, Rosetta Stone is still for you because you can breeze through it and go onto the next levels and no one slows you down.  However, if you want to learn at your own leisurely pace, you can do that as well.

What else does Peachy like to do with her Rosetta Stone Italian vocabulary?  She likes to go to Caravaggio and count the flowers, but not only does she count them but she knows the colors now too: http://www.whomyouknow.com/2011/05/beautiful-bouquets-at-peachys-picks.html  and as you see there are fiorini's that are rosa, bianco, arancione...but wait until Cosimo and Giuseppe find out she's learning Italian...she's going to wait to tell them until she actually can string whole sentences together by herself with no picture prompting.  But the picture prompting helps a lot.  And, she's even reviewed another restaurant called Fiorini so it's nice to know that she now knows what it means in Italian! http://www.whomyouknow.com/2011/05/peachy-picks-fiorini.html

They are totally serious when they say this is total immersion and we are totally serious when we say you should be doing a cannonball into one of their languages.  The world is only getting smaller and the ease of learning with their design of teaching is so smart.  Peachy became pretty addicted this past weekend when she did it for about 8 hours straight, then 5 hours straight another time.  It's not the kind of learning that goes in one ear and out the other-it is repetition, memory with pictures and a total experience that will leave you a linguist extraordinaire!

Everything we do at Rosetta Stone revolves around a simple idea: learning a language should be fun, easy and effective.

We approach language learning the same way that you first learned a language — using a natural method that teaches new language directly, without translation. That means no more confusing grammar explanations or mind-numbing vocabulary lists to memorize.

As the leading language-learning software in the world, Rosetta Stone makes learning a new language second nature. Millions of learners in more than 150 countries have already used our software to gain the confidence that comes with truly knowing a new language. We’re continually improving our software technology and adding new products. With Rosetta Stone at the helm, the future of language learning is very bright indeed.

Our History

Rosetta Stone began with one man’s quest for a better way to learn a language. Allen Stoltzfus began studying Russian in the 1980s, but became frustrated with his slow progress. Fortunately, he knew there was a better way to learn a language, through immersion, which he had experienced years earlier while studying in Germany. Allen’s command of German was a direct result of being a part of the culture and the world of Germany, instead of sitting in a classroom. He immersed himself in the language, and discovered German the way he had acquired his first language…naturally and without translation.
And so, an idea was born. Allen envisioned using computer technology to simulate the way that people learn their native language—with pictures and sounds in context, and with no translation. Allen went to his brother-in-law, John Fairfield, who had a Ph.D. in computer science, to explore the possibilities. John loved the idea, but he and Allen had to wait until technology caught up with their vision.
That time came in 1992 when Fairfield Language Technologies was founded in Harrisonburg, Va. Allen, the company’s Chairman and President, recruited his brother, Eugene Stoltzfus, from the world of architecture to be the company’s first Executive Vice President. Eugene also lent design expertise to the structural and visual components of the program, which quickly went from a dream to a reality.
In another flash of brilliance, Allen, John and Eugene called their product “Rosetta Stone,” named after the artifact that had unlocked the secrets of Egyptian hieroglyphics for linguists. The name certainly fits, as Rosetta Stone software now unlocks language-learning success for millions of users worldwide.
Allen passed away in 2002, but his legacy of achievement and innovation inspires the company to this very day. Eugene filled the role of President and Chairman until the end of 2005. Tom Adams was named CEO in 2003 and with his innovative leadership and passion for language-learning, Tom has taken Rosetta Stone global. In 2006, the company was sold to investment firms ABS Capital Partners and Norwest Equity Partners, and was renamed after our signature product. The company became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (RST) in April 2009, providing language-learning solutions for more than 30 different languages in more than 150 countries.
Today, while Rosetta Stone still calls Virginia’s stunning Shenandoah Valley home, the company now has offices all over the world, including London, Munich, Tokyo, Seoul, and Boulder, Colorado. To meet the demands of being a growing global company, our executive offices are based in Washington, D.C.
