Terrific Takeout: Toloache

Jorge, you were right! If you go to Toloache for Takeout, you absolutely must try the Quesadilla de Huitlacoche y Trufas which boasts Manchego cheese, corn, huitlacoche salsa and the winning black truffles. You will be in black truffle heaven and once you smell this you will be in love with it. It was thin, delicate, flavorful, and short-lived due to its supreme excellency.
The angel on Peachy's shoulder always orders a salad. A laudable choice at Toloache is the Cesar Toloache: Hearts of Romaine, Cotija cheese, roasted garlic dressing (on the side! applause!) and crispy tortilla strips. Fresh as a salad should be, this green number was crunchy and beautiful too.
Tumbada was Peachy's entree of choice and it is a solid paella. To be specific, it is Veracruz-style with epazote-scented rice, chicken, chorizo, shrimp, tilapia, clams and octopus. We found shrimp to be the strongest component and the dish in its entirety was a symphony of spring that is music to our ears...and then our stomach!
Definitely if you are ordering from Toloache you should ask Jorge the manager what to order because he had another winner in suggesting the Crepas con Cajeta. Peachy has never had this in her life...frankly, we have not found that many great Mexican places in Manhattan...and we expanded our horizons to see that this is Crepes mil hojas- caramelized goat's milk banana cinnamon almonds layered cake with vanilla ice cream.
Toloache is even more than Terrific Takeout!!!
We will have to go back...
