Oooh and we do believe Liz Barbatelli is Italian too!  She will have to venture to Marcony with Peachy the next time she is in New York...

A trip to Capri is quite far but a trip to Marcony on Lexington Avenue on 31st is quite close and you know we only go back to restaurants for an encore review when they are THAT FANTASTIC, so to that end, we are pleased to present our inaugural 2012 Peachy Dines Al Fresco review at Marcony!  You know Marcony is a Peachy's Pick:

The outdoor space that borders Lexington is lovely and painstakingly manicured from the hedges to the blooming trees, but don't worry if you have allergies-both people on this review have them and did not sneeze once.  This place is superclean and we love it.  The border from the street is well-defined and the area is cozy and warm, but not too warm as Marco thoughtfully has a fan in place for hot nights.  He also has cushion plans for the chairs.  We love the rug outside too.
Marco is the kind of restaurant owner that knows all his customers by name and greets them when they arrive.  And clearly they love him too-we saw a father come in for takeout to go to the hospital with-his wife had a baby the day we visited Marcony and apparently this is what she must have wanted to have for dinner!  And we can see why-you will too!  Keep reading.
After greeting the customer, Marco smiled for the camera.
Everyone at Marcony is totally on the ball and we immediately had water, wine, and bread.   It almost sounds biblical to say it in that order and combination but the immediate graciousness and welcome atmosphere of Marcony will be impressed upon you immediately, as well as their clear commitment to quality.  The bread was fresh and fantastic and the sauce was almost like a preserve.  Made daily, it is a composition of herbs, garlic, Italian sundried tomatoes and EVOO.
Peachy Deegan started off with a Barolo by the glass which was exactly what she is looking for: a full-bodied smooth deep Italian red.  However, two Italian red wines is better than one and we learned something new: we love Italian sparkling red wine!

Vesevus, we are pleased to meet you!

Vesevus comes from Gragnano in Naples and boasts spectacular sparkling notes that will firecrack their way into your summer.  You definitely want to try this wine that exhibits clearcut versatility and cheer! Simone Di Martino was a perfectly pleasant waiter to work with all evening and you may be seeing more of him in posts to come:

The absolute-most-to-die-for edible item Peachy has encountered in the month of May 2012 is this:
We thought we'd blow it up for you because it tastes just as good as it looks and if she could eat this every day, Peachy would.  Please meet the crab and shrimp wrapped in eggplant (perfectly thinly sliced too!) with portobello mushrooms.  Every bite was as succulent and decadent as it looks and words do not do it justice.  It is a special, not on the regular menu, so we suggest ordering it at your very earliest convenience as they do run out-Peachy had the last one last night even with a 6pm reservation.  She almost cried when it was gone.
A lovely rice ball with fontina, parmigiana and mozzarella cheese graced our palate before we graduated to the entree!

Peachy highly recommends the Amorini Capri as your dinner: black and white pasta, shrimp, bay scallops, calamari, clams and mussels dancing in a party of marinara will delight your tastebuds and remind your senses that summer is here in full swing in the island of Capri (You know, Lexington Capri.)  The ratio of seafood to pasta was ideal and a generous portion.

Franco Maciariello was a gracious assistant manager whom we were pleased to meet as well.  Finally, the ultimate

aspect of Marco and Marcony we really adore is their commitment to support Peachy's chocoholism:

You must try the chocolate souffle and the dessert with berries, and two new cocktails are fantastic as well for after or during dinner: The Howard which is amarene cherries bittersweet from Italy, cognac, orange liqueur, champagne, and dusted with paprika on the rim; and the combination of Liqueur 42 and heavy cream.
Our esteemed panelist adds:
One of my favorite things about the warm weather is getting to eat outside. What makes the experience even better is when you find a restaurant that not only has outdoor seating, but also excellent food and first-rate service. Marcony on Lexington Avenue between 31st and 32nd streets provides all of the above! They have a lovely outdoor seating area in front of the restaurant that is sectioned off from the rest of the sidewalk with beautiful shrubbery and shielded from the sun by a blue awning. After being greeted by a warm and welcoming staff, my meal began with the perfect cocktail for a warm summer day.

The Tre Volte is a thirst-quenching concoction of Ketel Citroen, Falanghina Bianco, Limoncello, and muddled basil. This drink was cool, crisp, and refreshing, and exactly what I needed after a long hot day! For an appetizer, I ordered a special salad that came with octopus, squid, shrimp, and lentils.

It was served in a red cabbage leaf and peppered with crisp celery and fresh tomatoes. The seafood was so tender and perfectly prepared, and the white wine and lemon dressing was an excellent way to bring out the flavor of every ingredient. Another delicious treat I tried was a warm, crisp rice ball filled with fontina, mozzarella, and parmagiana cheeses. This really made my mouth water!

For my main dish I chose to try the Salmone in Padella, a wild-caught salmon filet, pan-roasted with carrots and haricots verts, served with a fantastic white wine glaze sauce and a fresh tomato basil garnish. The fish was so tender and flaky - it melted in my mouth! The flavors created a symphony on my tongue! Finally, dessert was served. I sampled both the Chocolate Souffle and the Mille Foglio. The Chocolate Souffle was divine! The chocolate was so rich and creamy, and the side of vanilla ice cream was the perfect complement.

The Mille Foglio is a light and airy pastry made with "a thousand layers." Served with fresh berries and cream, you will not regret ordering this dessert! This perfect meal was further enhanced by a unique beverage as well. A cold and refreshing sparkling red wine from the Vesuvio region in Naples, Italy was a nice surprise. I had never tried sparkling red wine before, but now I will make it a point to try it again and again! Dinner outside at Marcony's was a night I won't soon forget, and I hope to return in the very near future for another perfect meal!
