What do you get when you put together mozzarella, pirelli and people who have a genuine devotion to better health and a talent for fantastic cuisine?  You get Mozzarelli's, and this is where you should be going for pizza, or at least add it to your list of favorites in a city that has so much pie.  Owner Eli Malina, who is a total peach, has a passion for mozzarella and fast cars so that is where the name comes from.  And the cuisine?  It is absolutely genius.  Peachy Deegan loves any food that is healthy that someone can trick her into eating.  As a devoted pizza connoisseur, Peachy is always thrilled to try one more great pizza place, but as soon as she met Eli and Manny and they started talking and she started eating, she knew this was some place special.  The pizza does not even taste like it is gluten-free.  That is what this place is famous for: gluten-free pizza.  190 glorious slices of gluten-free pizza await you each time you stroll in for a slice, and we challenge you to try as many as you can!  One piece will not be enough when you see the tempting choices. We can see the lifespan of the slices having an inverse relationship to speedometer of a car: they will go from 190 to zero in 60 seconds as the demand is increasing at such a rate!  We tried the regular, pepperoni and ricotta/spinach combination and each were delectable in their own right.  You will not even miss the wheat and Eli is right-you don't feel so sluggish afterwards.  Eli and his brother Ronnie run Mozzarelli's.  And the cruise ship industry is deprived of yet another star.
To be thorough, we tried their salads also and Peachy can verify that the Basil Pesto Grilled Chicken is a winner for summer!  They smartly cut the centers out of the cucumbers to minimize excess soggy, intelligently halved the cute, delicious cherry tomatoes so they don't squirt out all over your fine summer whites and the basil pesto grilled chicken itself was out of this world.  In bite-sized cubes, it was marinated properly and this salad would be competitive with salads we've had at more upscale places.
They even market their own crust made on premises-you all know that the water in New York City cannot be competed with for such a task-bagelmakers know this too.
The word diet was not in our vocabulary when it came to desserts....the carrot cake was lovely, gluten-free of course and had great decorative carrots resting atop:
The tiramisu was surprisingly like tiramisu, minus the gluten:
Now, believe it or not, this cake following is DAIRY FREE:
Strawberry cream mocha chocolate cake, you have won a place in our hearts and our stomachs!  We cannot believe no dairy and no gluten. Eli is just a genius.  Absolutely delicious!
And, if you are a kid who eats gluten-free, when you bring My Dad's Cookies to school in your lunch, none of the kids will miss the gluten!  There are 12 fantastic flavors so far!  Peachy especially likes the ginger and Italian chocolate/raspberry!  Guess who has become the cookie monster...
Our esteemed panelist, who is an expert in nutrition, comments:
Gluten is the protein in wheat and other grains which provides the
stretchy and elastic qualities. It's what gives bagels their chewy
qualities, pizza its crunchy crust, and cake its sponginess. This
sounds like a good thing, except more and more illness are being
connected to gluten allergies such as celiac, diabetes, thyroid
diseases, and even cancers. Avoiding foods with gluten can be
challenging as our foods our loaded with wheat products. Eli, the
founder of Mozzarelli's, has come to the rescue of the numerous
sufferers of gluten related diseases, who come to this pizzeria in
flocks for a slice of his delicious creations.
Making pizza without wheat is a difficult task which requires skill
and ingenuity by the chef. Eli has cracked the code on this and has
created an amazing gluten-free pizza crust. I tried a slice of
pepperoni and a slice of ricotta with baby spinach (a white pizza).
Both were absolutely delicious! Both great in their own right, not
just as a wheat pizza-substitute.  The salads offered were all fresh and fantastic and I especially liked the dressing.
Mozzarelli also has a fantastic assortment of cakes and cookies, all
gluten-free! Baking these deserts also must have taken serious talent
because they are completely indistinguishable from their wheat
containing counterparts!
For the cookies, I really enjoyed the "Oreo"
clones and the coconut ones. For the cakes, I couldn't get enough of
the cookies & cream and tiramisu cakes.
Hard to believe that these
were all gluten-free!
I think Mozzarelli's is a great place whether you have gluten issues,
or whether you just want to eat something healthy and delicious. If
you get the chance to speak to owner, Eli, you get the sense that he
really cares about what he does and loves doing it. His inspiration
for the place came from his own family, and strives to make sure
Mozzarelli's is a family and kid-friendly restaurant. I understand
Mozzarelli's is already such a popular spot, and can see a lot of
success in their future. Thanks for a great dinner Mozzarelli's!
