Arata Sushi has been open a mere two months and already it is proving to be one of the best places around for sushi!  You know Peachy loves fish, but finding a great sushi restaurant in New York is not common.  You want to be sure the fish is fresh-at Arata, it is delivered fresh 6 days a week and we have not seen a fresher Sushi spot.  Also, we think it is important for restaurant owners to be there as active participants in their enterprise, genuinely caring about their guests.  John does this at Arata Sushi and upon our arrival, John immediately greeted us with a smile, perfect English and tremendous Japanese Horse Mackerel, above.  The Japanese Horse Mackerel was fresh and delicious, and perfectly sliced and presented with beauty and detail.  And yes, you heard us right: John has perfect English which we can assure you is not so common sometimes when Peachy interacts with restaurants.  Not only does he speak well but so does his staff.  It is crucial for people at restaurants to be able to communicate effectively and properly and you are going to love how Arata Sushi speaks your language, both literally and in the culinary way.  Arata Sushi was first featured in Tasty Tidbits:
and it has graduated to Peachy's Picks with flying colors.  There was not a single aspect to criticize and you're going to love it.
They have also mastered the language of tantalizing tastebuds as you can see by this stellar Pepper Tuna, which was highlighted by onions cut with the proper precision to make them flavor the tuna effectively.  This was Peachy Deegan's appetizer of choice.

The tuna slices melted in our mouths and the sauces were just right for Goldilocks Peachy-not too saucy, not too bland and in the proper amount.  This second shot is more of an aerial view....

This next dish shows John's devoted creativity to sushi.  He along with Mr. Li are co-owners of Arata.  This yellowtail jalapeno with cilantro and caviar resting on it were outstandingly flavorful and again, beautifully presented. John has been a Sushi Chef for a decade, however before Arata he worked for other people.  We admire his debut entrepreneurial endeavor!

Up close!

It is also a key aspect of Arata that their wine is fantastic.  Wine is nearly always fantastic at Italian and French places and steakhouses, but not so much at Sushi places.  Peachy sipped on Cabernet Casillero del Diabro from Chile and she loved it.
Arata is American-friendly and to be honest, Peachy is not a chopstick fan.  They are not insulted if you ask for a fork.  And, they offer options like a green salad with your entree, which we like:
They also listen and put the dressing on the side!
As an entree, Peachy Deegan ordered the Arata Sushi special, which is the Chef's Selection of the Day.

She was incredibly excited as it is a rare occasion when she meets a fish she doesn't care for, so this option gives you many opportunities to try all of the delicacies of Arata.
Going clockwise from the left, this was composed of: Rare tuna, Bonito - baby tuna, Kona baby yellowtail, King Crab (the best!) and Salmon belly.

Each was mouthwatering and if you think you don't like sushi, you are being silly- you just have not had the RIGHT SUSHI.  You will like these and adore each for their stellar unique flavors.  Naturally Ms. Crabby loved that one the best, but each had a great texture and flavor and every one is to be admired and desired.
John told Peachy that the Espresso cake was the best dessert:

John was right.
Espresso mousse combined with espresso sponge cake were a winning combination that will wow you and make you wonder if you are really at a sushi spot.  You are-you're at one of the best ones!

We liked it even more when Sonia told us she made it.  Like John, Sonia Lin is a total peach and you're going to want to have her as your server since she is perfect in attention to detail and has a sparkling personality.

The red bean ice cream was a winner as well!

Our esteemed panelist adds:
Arata is great place for Sushi! I've been a sushi addict since my trip

to Japan a few years ago. Its great to find a place like Arata here in

New York. They put together some wonderful sushi creations and have a

staff and owner that love what they do.

I started with the Yellowtail Jalapeño. This dish took sliced

yellowtail with a sliver of jalapeño and caviar on top.

I've never had s
ushi with a spicy pepper on it, but I loved it! It has a slight kick
to it, which I really liked.
I also tried the Ocean Treasure which was
a mixture of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, tobiko and uni with a wasabi
sauce drizzled on it. This was delicious, so much so that I'd definitely order it
again.

With my entree, I had the miso soup.
For my main I had the Sushi and Sashimi plate. If you aren't familiar
with Japanese food, sushi are the familiar pieces of fish or other
ingredients laid over or rolled with a sticky, vinegared rice.

Sashimi
are just slices of raw fish (or sometimes other meats). I normally get
only Sashimi since I like to avoid all the carbs in rice, but I
decided to try this combo to see some of the chef's creations. This
plate had several different fish, salmon, yellowtail, tuna, spanish
mackerel, and white tuna, all both in the sashimi and sushi form. I
happily and quickly ate all of these with generous amounts of wasabi
and soy sauce.

It also came with a nice California Roll with avocado

and crab. Its rare that I can finish an entire plate when I have
dinner with Peachy, both because I'm not a huge eater and normally we
get a generous portion. With this plate, however, I ate every bite! It
was the perfect amount of food too, since I had little room for the
desert that was about to come.

I choose the Mochi. Mochi is a Japanese "cake", made with rice flour.
This one was flavored with matcha (powdered green tea) and had a soft
center. This was amazing, I'd recommend giving it a try. The Red Bean
Ice Cream and the Espresso Cake were both great too, however both mine
and Peachy's stomachs were so content from the meal, we barely had
any room for desert.

But we were pleasantly surprised that Arata's
desserts were so good!

Arata is a brand new Sushi place in Midtown and they are doing a great
job. They are very friendly and make you feel right at home. I'd
highly recommend stopping by, or ordering out their excellent Sushi.
Thank you Arata for a great experience!
