Mokk-a Coffees Cafe Svenska Highly Recommended by Whom You Know! We are Thrilled to Inaugurate Our Coverage of this Amazing Brand.

Meet our new friend Karen!  We admire her drive to find superior caffeinated fuel to power the world, and we begin the Mokk-a Coffee hit parade with Cafe Svenska.  Here's what the panel had to say.
For me, my day doesn't truly begin until I've had my first cup of coffee. The warmth, the aroma, the taste (and, of course, the caffeine!), all combine to put a smile on my face and clear away any mental fog. Over the years, I've tried many, many coffees, but there are few that stand out as truly special and unique. Well, Mokk-a Coffee's Café Svenska falls squarely into this category! Created by Karen Glavimans, an American coffee lover determined to bring the outstanding quality and taste of European coffees back home to America, Mokk-a is based in the Netherlands, but the coffees in America are roasted and distributed in Houston, TX, to ensure freshness for American customers. The idea for Café Svenska was born while Ms. Glavimans was traveling in Sweden and fell in love with a coffee she tasted in a café. She tracked down the roaster who had created the blend, and he agreed to work with her, thus Café Svenska was born. And after tasting it, I know exactly what Ms. Glavimans experienced at that café in Sweden, because I, too, fell in love at first sip! The taste is full and rich, with just a hint of chocolate, and it goes down incredibly smoothly - no bitter or sour aftertaste, just the lingering deliciousness of the coffee itself. Definitely a must-try for any coffee lover!

I have never tried a Swedish blend coffee, so had no preconceived notions as to what to expect from Mokk-a’s Café Svenska. This is a medium roast, but really very light-bodied. Even though it is a lighter blend, it is flavorful. It has a mild, but lively zest. Think of drinking it for a warm, soothing pick-me-up on a dark winter’s day. I usually drink my coffee with sugar and milk, but this is a light enough blend that I will drink it on its own. It will please any palate. If you’re looking for a different and unique coffee, try the Café Svenska!

Swedish! With the Vikings in mind, this Cafe Svenska is blended for intensity. The beans give it a full, rich body, appropriate for a nation of dyed-in-the-wool coffee drinkers. Swedes pride themselves on their coffee. There is a hint of chocolate that lends smoothness, and invites a tall glass of ice. Relax with a deep roast, and dream of Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis on a tall ship. (Remember that movie?) Travel without leaving your armchair with this innovative European collection by Mokk-a. All of the flavors lend themselves to romantic interludes and great coffee moments. Cafe Svenska will introduce you to a land you may not visit, but in your dreams. But it will inspire.

I love premium coffee. Anytime of day...iced, hot, it doesn't matter...I happily drink it all when I find it's a cut above the general market. One thing I have never done with my coffee is use it in a recipe....until now, that is. I decided to try my new Cafe Svenska coffee by Mokk-a in a recipe. After perusing their website, www.mokk-a.com, I decided to give the "Chocolate Brownies with Mokk-a's Cafe Svenska" a try. The recipe calls for a boxed brownie mix (makes this super fast and super easy), an egg, vanilla extract and the Cafe Svenska. Simple, fast and delicious! What made these brownies even better? Brewing a fresh, hot mug of Cafe Svenska to accompany the warm brownies. Perfection!

The recipe for our Swedish roast comes from a picturesque coastal town in the far southeast of Sweden. The town dates back to the time of the Vikings and prides itself on ancient maritime history. Glowing candles, trays of rich saffron buns, and steaming coffee charmed every home. Savor the celebration with a cup of Café Svenska. The blend of beans gives it a full, vibrant, smooth body, a fragrant aroma, and a hint of chocolate. It is so smooth it demands cup after cup.

Owner & CEO Karen Glavimans tells us:

This is the story of an American coffee lover determined to bring Europe’s finest coffees home.

I followed my dream to the tiniest, most romantic villages in Europe...the passionate south of Italy, the trade area of Sweden and the Bourgogne region in rural France.

My search began while traveling in Sweden with some friends. We stopped at a café and it was there that I fell in love. The coffee’s flavor was exquisite. I lingered in that café until they told where it came from. It was the divine creation of a very small local roaster. I searched for him, spoke with him and fortunately for me, he loved my ideas & American creativity. He agreed to work with me and Café Svenska was born.

Something inside compelled me to go on, although it may have just been the caffeine….

My journey took me to Italy next. After sampling a number of coffees, I arrived in Naples in early February 2008. There I met Angelo, the son of the owner of a small roasting facility. We drove one hour outside of Naples to the small village where his family lived. I told them how truly unique I thought their coffee was and asked if they would sell me the recipe. Angelo, turned in his chair and promptly responded, “You must be crazy!!” This conversation continued until June of that year when he signed the contract. Finally! Café Italia was mine!

My next coffee-quest destination was Puligny-Montrachet, in the beautiful Burgundy region of France. I was going to meet with an elderly roaster I had heard about there. He was 80+ years old and his recipes had been passed down through generations. Entering his very small shop (which looked like something out of a Harry Potter movie) I explained that I had tried his coffee and found this particular one lovely. Would he also consider selling me the recipe?

And so the story goes…….In early 2009 Café Svenska, Café Italia and Café France, introduced as The Most Innovative New Product on the Market, had their official launch in the US market.

We will continue searching for these coffees which many regard as “The Charm of Europe”. Travel with us and enjoy these excellent Old World tastes in the comfort of your own home!
