History of Whom You Know: Whom You Know Celebrates Our Fifth Birthday with Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge by David Milligan Selections!

Of course, to properly celebrate our 5th Anniversary, some fine wine from France is in order!  Please meet
Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge, introduced to us by David Milligan Selections.
As you know, David Milligan is a Mover and Shaker and stay tuned as we'll be coming out with a new top Mover and Shaker from this brand.  We love the robust ripeness that emanates from this quality red, and find it to be well-balanced, thus being quite versatile for cocktail hour, dinner or for whatever purpose your little heart desires.  The variety of grapes included results in a beautiful bouquet that will delight both your nose and your palate.  You do not need a special occasion: every day should contain quality imbibing.
The origin of the name Vieux Lazaret dates back to the 18th century when there existed in the centre of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape a hospice or Lazaret. This offered comfort and shelter for the poor and infirm, provided by the Lazarists; A silent order of monks founded in 1625 by St Vincent de Paul to look after the sick and the needy in the French countryside.
The buildings fell into disuse and were sold by the Commune during the 19th century to the Quiot family and used as agricultural buildings. Being situated in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and close to other properties owned by the Quiot family, these original buildings have today been extended and modernized, and now form the main centre of the agricultural activities of Famille Quiot.
Vinification: Vinified in concrete tanks for 2 to 3 weeks, to protect from the sudden temperature changes of the Mistral. Complete destemming, pumping over twice per day. Aged 18 months in vats and foudres.
The red is a blend of Grenache Syrah, Mourvedre and the other 10 grapes of Chateauneuf du Pape.
Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge has a full, deep color with the bouquet of black fruits and spice, with ripe fruit flavors, good length and well balanced tannins. The wines can be preserved for 8 to 12 years according to the vintage.
Vine Age: 35 years on average
Soils: Many of the parcels of vines are planted on the traditional “galets” or
round, heavy stones washed down from the Alps, with underlying areas of alluvial soil mixed with stony sand and heavier chalky clay.
Planted area: 229 acres over 30 parcels (red and white)

Alex says on Facebook: My father started this delightful company back in 1995. Since then we have striven to bring you delicious, affordable, terroir driven wines.

David Milligan founded David Milligan Selections in 1995 with the objective of finding great wines from top estates and creating exceptional values for the consumer.
This has been achieved by creating a low overhead operation selling directly on behalf of the estates to importing wholesalers around the country and thus eliminating the National Importer mark up.

Drawing on his many years of experience in the United States and in Europe where he was wine buyer for one of the largest wine companies, he has assembled a range of important estates in the main regions of France.

In selecting these wines he agrees with the consumer preference for clean, well made wines with emphasis on the natural fruit. He believes that this allows the true character of the soil in each region to express itself. Experts agree that his selections are classic expressions of each appellation. In 2006 he was joined by his son Alexander who spent two years working at Sherry-Lehmann, the prestigious New York retailer.
