El Pote was first featured in July 2012 in Peachy's Picks, and we have returned to this lovely venue that serves terrific Castillian cuisine!  Our friend, owner Enrique Torres came to America in 1966 from La Coruna and we were delighted to return to this cozy spot that's been a staple of Manhattan for 22 years so far.  We started off adventurously with some squid in their own ink as an appetizer, which were tender and enjoyable.
We also tried some shrimp in garlic sauce, another pleasing choice.  Instead of a green salad, we decided to opt for a vegetable direct from Spain: Spanish white asparagus.
Attractively arranged, this flavorful vegetable is a nice side dish to try.
Enrique suggested we try the stuffed piquillo peppers, and they were simply amazing.  The peppers were ripe and delicious, and better yet, they were bursting with fresh codfish sauteed with onions and white wine.  We would definitely order these again!   The flavor, texture, presentation and inventive combination make them a winner.
For our entree, we chose the Mariscada Salsa Verde, which to us we the star of the show.  It's a party of lobster, shrimp, scallions, clams and mussels dancing in green sauce.  Maybe they are even doing the salsa a la Victor Cruz...
We absolutely enjoyed befriending that lobster tail, and Enrique tells us that the seafood is delivered regularly from Canada and Alaska.
El Pote is Terrific Takeout!
