Located way downtown at 15 Stone Street, Nebraska Steakhouse is a true diamond-in-the-rough we'd say based on our initial and only experience there so far!  Peachy Deegan is embarrassed to say when she spent a lot of time downtown she remembers walking by it many times, however, she never visited (she was spending less time in restaurants then).  It has one of the most interesting stories!  Nebraska Steakhouse serves quality cuisine in the most laid back comfortable atmosphere we've ever seen in a steakhouse, and the owner, Mona Muresan, is illustrious in her own right outside of the food industry: we believe she is the only professional bodybuilder to own a restaurant!  Mona came to New York in 1992 and is a native of Romania.  She is really the American dream-she started off as a server at this venue and in 2005 she bought it.  Go Mona!  She's also one smart cookie, and fun.  We were telling Mover and Shaker Kristine Johnson the other day at Mover and Shaker Rita Cosby's birthday party about this place since Kristine went to school in Nebraska; the restaurant gets its name because the steaks do literally come in from Nebraska from the distributor Liberty Meats.
Mesclun Salad: mixed organic greens, tomatoes, onions, croutons and balsamic vinaigrette marked our initial edible entry in our review, and it was wonderfully fresh and vibrant.  Every bite of crunchiness was exactly as it should be, and note Mona listened and put the dressing on the side.  Not only did she put it on the side but it was in a silver serving boat making it beautiful too.  Beauty counts; you know Peachy is also a Fashion Editor and right now she is working on a gorgeous new book by Firefly celebrating Vogue gowns.  Our salad was ready for the gala in Peachy's stomach.
For our appetizer we tried the Sauteed Shrimp: they were sauteed in roasted garlic, white wine and parsley sauce, and were every bit as good as we had hoped.  However, Mona had another appetizer idea that you have to try:
Mona suggested we try the chili which we can assure you is the furthest thing from ordinary.  THIS chili is made with FILET MIGNON TIPS.  We have never seen or tasted such a thing but we can report that it is far better than any other chili we've had.  Black beans, onions, peppers and lots of spices are included in this wonder which we wish we were eating right now.  The pictures should torture you into trying it!
Mona also has a Health and Wellness menu-as you might imagine she is into being extraordinarily healthy for obvious reasons!  We will have to try that menu sometime but we did not try it for our first time so this review is competitive with the rest.
For the steak, we tried the New York Strip steak ordered medium, and it came just as we expected!  Excellent!  It was perfectly medium and its thick juiciness was accentuated by that hot pepper.  The New York Strip Steak is a generous size at 17 oz. and is boneless, hand-picked, prime strip steak.  Delicious!  We can't wait to return...

Nebraska Steakhouse is definitely Terrific Takeout!
