It's not who you know, it's Whom You Know, and we could not be more thrilled to continue our coverage of Neary's for their 48th Anniversary, counting down to 50!  And by the way, Jimmy knows everyone; we aspire to his fame.  He even has two Superbowl rings as a gift from Tim Mara from the New York Giants' victories in 1986 and 1990.  Listen to Jimmy introduce Neary's to you and check out the pictures of him at the bar!

Neary's was first featured in 2010:

and again in 2014:

Listen to Jimmy tell you about his trophies:
There is no place like Neary's!  Their fine classic cuisine, their warm, welcoming atmosphere, and Jimmy, the living legend himself, ensure that your Neary's experience is a winning one.  And, there aren't too many places we can think of with the original founder and owner there all the time like Jimmy for 48 years straight, who exudes joy in his vocation like no other.  We are honored to work with him.
There is no bigger party on St. Patrick's Day than at Neary's.
Mary is our favorite waitress; her college degree is in hospitality and she is from CORK!  We love Cork, and Peachy Deegan used to live there, so we probably have more Cork friends than any other county (except maybe since a lot of them moved to Dublin, we know more in Dublin now?)  Mary showed us the Colman's Mustard, which they make on premises with the formula sent over from England.
The lean, warm sliced Corned Beef was the appetizer Peachy selected, and to make everyone happy, Neary's offers two mustard choices on the side: Colman's, which we used, and Gulden's, the American mustard.  The beef announced quality with every bite, and it was the perfect start.
The House Salad at Neary's is a total must.  It's simplicity defined, and an essential aspect to a balanced meal.  Neary's thoughtfully puts the chopped onions on the side, letting you decide how many you'd like to consume with the fresh lettuce and star tomato, which is redder and riper than most tomatoes you see in New York in March.  Every bite was fresh and delicious, and Neary's is careful to put the dressing on the side if you like:
Not everywhere is as consistent as Neary's, but we can attest to their consistency completely.
This is not our first shrimp scampi at Neary's, and it won't be our last!  The Shrimp Scampi was just as delicious as we had remembered.
The shrimp themselves are expertly seasoned and seared to perfection, and five of them circle the rice.  The light butter garlic sauce with parsley highlights the divine dinner; the luxury of each bite of fresh shrimp is a celebration in itself.

A festive glass of bubbly, a fresh slice of apple pie a la mode and your night is complete!  We can't wait for Neary's to turn 50 and we're sure Brian Mulligan is there in spirit with Jimmy every night. (listen to Jimmy's videos; Brian is Jimmy's late business partner.)
Just as fabulous as the dessert was the joke Jimmy Neary told us during it:

Our esteemed panelist adds:
After living in the East 50’s for many years, it was truly amazing to me that I somehow had missed going to Neary’s Restaurant. It is a delightful, cozy and somehow very comforting place! Most noticeably it is enjoyable because of the lack of loud, constant background music. One can actually hear what one’s dining companion has to say!
The charming owner, Jimmy Neary and the wait staff were friendly in the Irish way, attentive and yet not obsequious at all.

The Wild Irish Smoked Salmon was excellent, served as it often is in Ireland with capers and onions. The portions were generous and the salmon very fresh.

The mixed salad was a typical old-fashioned salad with iceberg lettuce, but the tomatoes were fabulous. Couldn’t help wondering where Neary’s gets these ripe and delicious tomatoes. They are what fresh tomatoes used to taste like! Very nice presentation of food for every course served at Neary’s.

The Calf’s Liver with Bacon was delicious, juicy and tender. I ordered the liver cooked medium range, and that is how it was served, exactly as ordered, except that it was way beyond expectations for tasty Calf’s liver.

The bacon was crisp, yet soft enough to be the perfect topping for the liver. The calf’s liver was served with the very best mashed potatoes that I have ever tasted in my entire life. The kind one’s mother used to make, only 100 times better. I suppose one will never know the secret of Neary’s mashed potatoes, but it is worth it to go there just for these alone!

Absolutely mouth-watering Key Lime Pie was the finishing touch on this brilliant meal and the overall experience of dinner at Neary’s.

Neary's continues to be Highly Recommended by Whom You Know.
