"My name is Ringo, and I play drums."
-Ringo Starr

This stellar program hardly needs a review (but we're so glad that it did).  Just look at the lineup.  After watching every minute of it, we can assure you that no one here has faded talent and they each are brilliant as ever.  Starting with Joan Jett, who has not aged a bit, the collaborations are even better than the single performances, celebrating the best of music.  Dave Grohl is shown with Jett (remember the recent HBO Kurt Cobain documentary).  We were incredibly impressed with the Crimson and Clover rendition and the layers of talent it boasted, resulting in a brilliant vocal cocktail blended just right, shaken not stirred.

If you have been reading our Grammy coverage in New York Notes for the last year, this has your name all over it. (See this column:

Did you know that ten million people have been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the last thirty years?  We can't say we've ever been to Ohio, but we enjoyed this visit through the magic of our friends at HBO.  It's spectacular to see Jerry Lee Lewis in the audience, who was in the first class of inductees.

Beyond the music, the personal stories of struggle and success that each artist shares is terrifically moving.  The rejection faced is surprising given where each is today, and inspirational for all that reach for their dreams.  The cooperation of people with contrasting backgrounds working together to make something beautiful is something to be admired in today's day and age.  We also were moved by acceptance speeches by relatives of winners that had passed on. Manhattan-dwellers: you'll be particularly interested in what Patti Smith had to say about Lou Reed, and we also found Laurie Anderson's words touching.

On a note of hilarity, listen to what Paul and Ringo say about the Beatles pact in the van.  Own up!  HBO graciously shared some footage which we will share with you:

You don't need us to tell you who these stars are-but please listen to us and just watch it!  It's simply not to be missed.
