"There's something about the optimism in the Griswolds that is relatable.  Regardless of everything going wrong that can go wrong, they're going to get to Walley World or wherever, and that's where everything's going to go right.  Of course, it doesn't, but that's what it's all about, wanting it to, and it's those little comic moments along the way that really make it worth the trip.  I loved the script and John and Jonathan's take and was flattered to be invited along.  I think this 'Vacation' will make people laugh a lot."
-Chevy Chase

He's right: Peachy laughed a lot and if you watched the National Lampoon movies years ago, you ought to know that the Griswolds are back and better than ever.  Who doesn't know Wally World?!!? (This Wally World is really Six Flags over Georgia.)  For everyone like Peachy that never travels light, you feel like you're always going there.  The Griswolds live in a world ruled by Murphy's Law, and the combination of the script punctuated with inappropriate lovable scenes throughout, the brilliant casting and the final product delivered by a stellar cast add up to one movie simply titled VACATION that you should all see starting tomorrow.
We believe our UK/Irish readers in particular will appreciate the name of the above vehicle which is a character in itself: TARTAN PRANCER.  We did keep looking for the plaid...these Griswolds, the grown up Rusty (Ed Helms) and his wife Debbie (Christina Applegate) star and their delivery is spot on right down to when they land in what we will nicely call mud.  (wait until you find out what it really is...)  Debbie WILL DO ANYTHING...and these are not FDR's Hot Springs.  Put away the Yankee Candle and start thinking about Four Corners.
If you were worried this new Vacation is not in keeping with the traditions of yesteryear, have no fear: Rusty's parents return to the screen played by Beverly D'Angelo and Chevy Chase as Ellen and Clark Griswold, respectively.  Their scenes added another dimension connecting the series.  The entire family dynamics will give everyone something to relate to as the escapade unwinds.  You'll see some teachable moments...and of course for anyone social media illiterate, you'll learn the life implications of the faux pas of not clicking like on Instagram.
They of course opt for a slightly more traditional vehicle.
Sibling banter is rampant between the kid brother, Kevin (Steele Stebbins) and the quieter, more bookish James (Skyler Gisondo) and based on what we saw in Vacation, we see bright futures for these two kiddos.  Gisondo had some awesome facial movements that spoke louder than words...and his character, James, doesn't travel with fewer than about seven thought journals.  The character descriptions alone should have you rolling on the floor laughing just thinking about seeing the movie.
If you aren't laughing your head off by the time the family arrives at Rusty's sister's place, wait until Chris Hemsworth gets your attention in more ways than one.  This movie is not politically correct and we love that and its many irreverent clinchers that rope you in.

The Griswolds are up for anything including white water rafting, and it's not only the action but also the storyline and the intelligence necessary to do comedy well.
"I'm a huge fan of the Griswolds and their saga.  We all came on board because of what Beverly and Chevy created," Christina Applegate comments.  She was also drawn to the directors' "rapier wit.  It's sharp and smart and yet they were able to write heart.  It can't all be snark; there has to be an emotional thread and it was there, woven into the crazy comedy and mishaps.  That was a big plus for me."  Of all of the actors we were most impressed with Christina.
A killer script like this done so well is highly preferable to special effects with a lesser script.  We all go to the movies to be entertained, and you can certainly count on that with Vacation.  From teenage love to Hannah Davis driving a Ferrari opposite Rusty, Vacation leaves out nothing!  Lots of challenges develop, and thank goodness it's not happening to you.
If you don't understand the Tartan Prancer, perhaps take a crash course in Albanian...and check out those buttons on the dashboard.  Just wait until you see the key ring.
Take a vacation to the nearest movie theatre and jump right in!
Run, don't walk.  It really is that funny.

The next generation of Griswolds is at it again. New Line Cinema’s “Vacation,” starring Ed Helms (“The Hangover” films) and Christina Applegate (the “Anchorman” films), takes the family on the road for another ill-fated adventure. The film marks Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley’s directorial debut.

Following in his father’s footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America’s “favorite family fun park,” Walley World.

Rounding out the cast Skyler Gisondo (“Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb,” “Hard Sell”) and Steele Stebbins (“A Haunted House 2”) as Rusty’s sons, James and Kevin; with Chris Hemsworth (the “Thor” films) in the role of Stone Crandall, Rusty’s irritatingly successful brother-in-law; Leslie Mann (“The Other Woman”) as Stone’s wife, Rusty’s sister, Audrey; and Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase as Ellen and Clark Griswold from the classic “Vacation” comedies.

Goldstein & Daley (“Horrible Bosses,” “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”) wrote the script, based on characters created by John Hughes. David Dobkin (“The Judge,” “Wedding Crashers”) and Chris Bender (“We’re the Millers,” “Horrible Bosses 2”) are producing, with Marc S. Fischer, Jeff Kleeman, Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener, Samuel J. Brown and Dave Neustadter serving as executive producers.

The directors’ behind-the-scenes creative team also includes director of photography Barry Peterson (the “Jump Street” films, “We’re the Millers”), production designer Barry Robison (“Wedding Crashers,” “Pitch Perfect”), editor Jamie Gross and costume designer Debra McGuire (“Ted”). Music is by Mark Mothersbaugh.

New Line Cinema presents A Benderspink/Big Kid Pictures Production, “Vacation.” Set to hit theaters July 29, 2015, it will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.
