Here's your "second wish" suggestion to improve your mood after aforementioned loss, New York!  We LOVE Joan Rivers, and she shares how to bounce back.  You can too!

Joan Rivers's literary legacy is truly a gift to the world. We did not read this when it was released, and normally only publish on new releases; however, in Joan's memory we do this review. We have published on:

I Hate Everyone...Starting with Me

Diary of a Mad Diva

Murder at The Academy Awards

This hilarious work is actually meant to be a self-help book, however, it doesn't read like most of those genre we imagine because of Joan's fabulous unique take on life.  Normally we are not interested in self-help; we are interested in Joan Rivers, however.  It's easy to look at someone in the limelight and think their life is wonderful, however when you delve into their history you see that people are people and Joan's incredible drive, courage and personality were a force to be admired.

So, what did we like about this book?
It alternated between being serious and being funny. Joan lets us in on a side we don't typically see in her.

Serious, page 35:
"While the extent and duration of your emotions will vary with your particular loss, the feelings and the mourning process are always similar. You are likely to feel angry, guilty, confused and overwhelmed. Allow yourself these feelings, don't fight them, and you'll heal faster.

"Although motivation is the best response to adversity, laughter is a great response too." (p. 131)
Joan talks about her New York house renovation and she also likes the serenity prayer, which we are a fan of also. (You don't have to be in AA to like it.)

Funny, p. 60:
[About widows] "And then this woman told us, to great applause, that her standard response was 'Why shouldn't I look good? I'm not the one who died.'"

Some great stories she tells include a tale of when she worked for Radio City Music Hall in publicity and worked with dwarfs. Joan also acknowledges that Notre Dame is not the only way to bet in football (p. 118.) (@regis we're talking to you!  But we hope you know we admire your school spirit, from the other side of the Holy War.)

Everyone has loss in their lives. How you react to it is up to you, and if you are in such a situation, this timeless book is a treasure.
