Oh my goodness, where is Ray Kelly when you need him? (read his book!)  Here's what could happen when he's not in charge, and we can't believe how long it took security and the authorities to respond to poor Lee Gates played by George Clooney...and we can assure you that in real life, security is far tighter in Manhattan.  Remember, it's just a movie.  Money Monster, the latest and greatest from Sony Pictures, who as a studio have quite the impressive hit list coming out this year which we look forward to telling you about one by one, is going to have you questioning every delivery you get from now on in New York...and it's a highly sensationalized story of corporate greed that is not only in America, but is an international concern.

The salesmanship of George Clooney brilliantly executed through his character is the best reason to watch this movie, and we imagine Money Monster will be added to the list of movies for students of business to learn sales skills, not to mention how to handle pressure though no one teaches you that!  Exuding exaggerated ego, Lee is a fountain of arrogance that is the Hollywood embodiment of Jim Cramer, who is a gas to watch and a pretty smart guy as well.  Clooney's performance is testament to the fact that he has now been nominated in more categories than anyone else in Oscar® history, and another nomination with this performance should surprise no one.

Money Monster could become scary for all the Equity Analysts out there!  Don't make any calls you aren't prepared to defend with your life!!  Also, definitely not "low-level schlubs", quants could be horrified if they take this movie too seriously...and before you watch this movie make sure you understand what an algorithm is.  Our readers are super smart however, so you probably know that now.  The crowd mentality plays a large role in this plot as well, and the tension created throughout this film is successfully executed.

Money Monster is a take on Corporate America, Financial News and Ignorant Investors more than Wall Street, and no one should blame computer error, solid data, and the hard-working people of Wall Street for fraud committed by a single individual.

“I love this movie because it has two things that sometimes people think are opposites,” says Jodie Foster, who directs the thriller Money Monster, starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts. “One is that it’s a mainstream thriller that’s exciting, fast-paced, smart, and yet, still has a real accessibility. The flip side, which is the most important reason to go to the movies, is that you’re moved by a real story. It’s incredibly relevant.”

“To me, the most exciting part of the story, in addition to the cops, helicopters, guns, bombs, and fast-paced excitement,” Foster continues, “is how this man, Lee Gates, played by George Clooney, starts off one way – a shallow, smug, empty guy, who’s successful at his work but a failure in everyone’s eyes, including his own – but has a terrible moment that forces him, with Julia’s help, to rise to the occasion, find his humanity, grow up, evolve, and change.”

“I grew up in live TV – every day of my life for my first 16 years was live TV, because my father had a live variety show and did the news live,” says Clooney. “Later, I sort of forced NBC to do a live episode of ‘ER,’ and I did ‘Fail Safe’ as a live production. This was before other shows started to do really risky television; I thought the only thing that TV could do that films couldn’t was live. It’s flying without a net; that’s exciting.”

Clooney is masterful in his performance throughout bringing emotion to trading that is rarely seen, and the best surprise to us was the smart casting of Catriona Balfe, who should play a larger role on the American big screen. You know her from her amazing performance in Outlander.  (Outlander marketing people we want to hear from you.) On-screen chemistry between Clooney and Julia Roberts is also a notable positive in this flick.

The funniest part of the movie which will have you erupt is when Kyle's girlfriend interacts with him on screen.  Just wait for this and watch and think of what we told you as you laugh so hard you cry.
Federal Hall plays a starring role in Money Monster...and you know we love Landmarks!  Before Presidents were inaugurated in Washington, this happened in New York starting with George Washington.

In production terms, we liked this team's commitment to authenticity in news. “We shot at CBS studios in the upper West Side of Manhattan,” says Foster, noting that it is a real-life control room that could handle a "Money Monster" type of broadcast. “We wanted to keep the certain level of reality found in live television, and capture the intensity and obsession that happens in that moment.”

Of course we love to be entertained, but if you take anything here too seriously about the financial markets you'd be amiss.  For further reading on the truth in financial markets, we'd encourage you to read brilliant Boston College graduate Peter Lynch's books written by Mover and Shaker Sascha Rothchild's dad and everything by the extraordinarily talented Michael Lewis (up with the human piranha!) particularly Flash Boys, which concentrates on High Frequency trading...and if you take 90% of the trading volume out of play bien sur mes amies you will get a different result.  Ignorance is not bliss and everyone should know how their money works; all is disclosed if you read it.  That's the law and what the SEC is for.  Silly Kyle should consider diversification and fixed income options to protect his principal and risk management in general.

Released in Cannes today, Money Monster will be released nationwide in the USA on May 13, 2016.
In real life, Culinary King Sal Scognamillo tells us that George Clooney is a Chicken Tre Colore grilled chicken breast with oil and balsamic Monster at Patsy's Italian Restaurant, THE ONE AND ONLY AND YOU KNOW IT...in case watching movies also makes you hungry go see Sal afterward and be a Clooney Monster with this dish.
