We loved our doggie cousin, Taz! In Memory of His Upcoming One Year Anniversary we Remember Tazzie

Written by Taz's owner, Buffy Deegan:

Taz was a purebred english style black labrador retriever born on November 21, 1995. English-style labs are the stocky, boxy-faced labs. I looked all over for a companion for my then two year old black lab Calvin. When I went to the breeder in Northeastern Connecticut, this little guy was the last one left. He ran right over to me, I picked him up, fell in love and said "I'll take him". Well, when Taz was 15 months old he was diagnosed with progressive weakness in both rear legs, left being greater than right. There was a discussion about multiple procedures available to correct this problem. Amongst those was a discussion of femoral head excisions. Due to the severity of the problem a femoral head exicision was agreed upon and carried out on the left side. Post operative care consisted of slow leash walking to encourage usage over the next 8 to 12 weeks. The long term prognosis was good to fair and the other side was to be considered for surgery should the situation warrant it. Needless to say, after this surgery and recovery, Taz grew into a dock-jumping, swimming, tennis ball fetching machine! He had the opportunity to swim in the ocean off of Sanibel Island and Daytona Beach, Florida, and Amagansett, Long Island, NY, along with many lakes and rivers in Connecticut, his home state. Taz never had to have another operation and lived a very fulfilling 13 years. He passed away last August 16th.

In memory of Taz, we hope you are making the most of your summer, as much as he is here in the Hamptons!

The past two Peachy's Pet Pals have been memorials, so the next one will feature our real live doggie cousin, Jetty! Look forward to it, Whom You Know readers! Jetty is a ton of fun.
