#SpainPeachy #MovietimeInManhattan #BroadwayAlert Sean Hepburn Ferrer: MADRID WILL HOST THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THE MUSICAL 'BUSCANDO A AUDREY' ("BECOMING AUDREY")

Audrey Hepburn, the global icon, will have her own musical. Sean Hepburn Ferrer, Audrey's son, joins forces with screenwriter / producer José Ignacio Salmerón and composer Fernando Velázquez to create a world class musical and to pre announce the 2025 Madrid world premiere of "BUSCANDO A AUDREY" ("BECOMING AUDREY")

Madrid will be the showcase from which it will be exported to the rest of the world.
Becoming Audrey / Buscando a Audrey, The Musical

Ferrer commented: "This is not the classic biography. When my mother was asked to write hers, she always answered: 'Nothing special happened to me. I just went to work and people liked it'. We created a script with deep cinematic roots that mirrors her life, career and humanitarian legacy.'

The writer / film producer acknowledges that they chose Madrid to celebrate the world premiere of the musical dedicated to his mother because, "in addition to being the third capital in terms of business volume for musicals, Madrid is in the midst of a social and economic boom. Furthermore, my ancestors are Spanish – we spent many happy years here – my mother always loved this wonderful culture."

The idea and script for this creation comes from José Ignacio Salmerón, a comedian, screenwriter and producer of numerous theatrical hits. "To build a musical around the persona of Audrey Hepburn has been an exciting challenge. This unique and elegant woman, with infinite kindness, has been an extraordinary source of inspiration to create a musical comedy full of emotions and surprises," confesses Salmerón.

The original score and lyrics for "Buscando a Audrey" / "Becoming Audrey" are by Spanish composer, Fernando Velázquez, winner of a Grammy Award and a Goya, and soundtrack creator of some of Spain's top film hits such as The Impossible,The Spanish Affair and The Orphanage.

In addition, the musical contains a hidden surprise: The last unpublished song by the world renowned composer Henry Mancini, winner of four Oscars and twenty Grammy Awards. 2024 marks the centenary of Mancini's birth. He composed most of Audrey's film soundtracks as well as the iconic Moon River, which is immediately associated with Hepburn from her first rendition in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

The production will have a top team of creative professionals whose talent has earned them thirty prestigious awards (Max Theater Awards, Musical Theater Awards and Broadway World)

Audrey Hepburn marked a before and after in Hollywood, becoming a myth for the way she understood and lived her life. Today, with only five years left to celebrate the centenary of her birth, she continues to top the rankings of fashion, style, beauty and elegance. More than three hundred books have been written about her, while documentaries and television series continue to be produced about her life and her name frequently appears in the media undoubtedly also due to her humanitarian legacy.

This production will delight her faithful followers, lovers of music, cinema and musicals as well as her youngest fans who want to know how her charisma, elegance and humility conquered the world and her legend was forged.

"BUSCANDO A AUDREY" ("BECOMING AUDREY") will premiere in Madrid early Spring 2025.

#BroadwayAlert #NewYorkNotes #Harmony #HarmonytheMusical #TheCastofHarmony BARRY MANILOW AND BRUCE SUSSMAN’S “HARMONY” BROADWAY EARNS WHOM YOU KNOW'S HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION #PEACHYDEEGAN @MANHATTANPEACHY @barrymanilow @kendavenport

Neither Peachy nor Pictures Lie: This Earned a Standing Ovation:

It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and everyone knows there's no business like show business...and FINALLY the best show we have seen in YEARS and absolutely the best one ever since covid struck has made its debut: HARMONY THE MUSICAL.

We have simple taste: we like the best.
Harmony is the best right now, and it will be for years.
It started last Monday!  Everything that is old is new again in its timeless elegance and eloquence, not to mention acrobatic dance routines that only elite athletes are capable of.
It is by far the strongest show in terms of talent, depth of story and plot, song and dance routines and obviously the score thanks to legendary composer and singular sensation, Barry Manilow with his equally talented collaborator, Bruce Sussman and top producer, Ken Davenport.

Harmony is highly authentic, genuine, quality.  Period.

It's a celebration of true friendship.

It's been said that this group was as big as the Beatles way before the Beatles, and we are honored to review them also (did you hear red and blue and now and then too?) and if you appreciate the finer sounds of life, Harmony has your name all over it.  Before there were the fab four, there were the sensational six, and the six we saw totally nailed their performance both respectively and in tandem.  They didn't let background or belief affect them: they only believed in the same maxim we do: EXCELLENCE.

Taking place in the 1920s and 1930s, Harmony has tunes evocative of the Whiffenpoofs or even better, the Perilhettes, and is testimony to the fact that no one can top a classic.  We absolutely adore history and that's what Peachy's BA from BC is in!  There's a reason this story has endured for a century and it's time to hear it now.   The stage setting correctly supports the story and makes the audience feel like they have just the ticket to the right club.  It's exactly what it needs to be, not overwhelming the show like lesser productions we don't publish on after seeing them.  If you have not read our other 28,000 posts, you should know if we don't have anything good to say, we say nothing at all.  All of the top world cities like New York, London and Paris are covered in this show and you don't even have to hop on a plane.  The costumes are simply amazing and those of Josephine Baker stand out in particular and we love the Rabbi's argyle.  Even Albert Einstein is in this!

Though you all know Peachy is Catholic, we understand through our Jewish friends that the Hebrew words in Harmony are historically accurate and it's the repeated refrain of the last act: "Shema Yisrael" (Hear O Israel).  In a world that needs collective peace, understanding, friendship and happy collaboration more than ever, this show emblazons such a theme, showcasing the emotional highs and lows and telling a story a century old.  Differences are only differences when you let them make a difference.

Fortunately, it is not all deep and heavy and the lighter moments balance the show quite well.  We were terrifically impressed with the water pouring coordination and aim and not ruining the female character's hair at all in conjunction with this fun highlight.  And if you want to run away and join the circus and be a singer or a Peachy or really anything but a Doctor, there's a number for you, too.

If you want Peace, Fun, and Enlightened Talent, what you need to do right now is book your tickets to the Ethel Barrymore Theatre to see this.  And the best performer of the six?  No, we don't believe it's one of them though they each could not have been better.  The night we saw Harmony, the role of Young Rabbi was played by Matthew Mucha and we would have never guessed he was not the lead in the first place.  The star of this show without a doubt Chip Zien who plays the Rabbi and if the people at The Tonys have any sense at all, they will give one to him because with his properly nuanced line delivery, splendid singing capability and dance energy rivaled only by the energizer bunny culminating in an absolutely spectacular performance, he has more than earned it.

His character says you have to fight for happiness.  Luckily for you, there is no fight involved here until the box office sells out: Happiness in Manhattan right now is a red hot ticket to Harmony!

And though they might ask: "How Can I Serve You Madam" in the best number of the show, our answer to the question of "How Can I Serve You Mademoiselle Peachy?" is:
YOU JUST DID.

HARMONY THE MUSICAL HAS EARNED OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
MAKE IT YOUR PRIORITY NOW!

Producers Ken Davenport, Sandi Moran, and Garry Kief released the first production photos from the new musical Harmony by Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman, directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, ahead of its opening night on Monday, November 13, starring Chip Zien as ‘Rabbi’, Sierra Boggess as ‘Mary,’ Julie Benko as ‘Ruth,’ and the Comedian Harmonists Sean Bell, Danny Kornfeld, Zal Owen, Eric Peters, Blake Roman, and Steven Tesley.

Harmony features an original new score by legendary Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award® winner Barry Manilow with lyrics and book by Drama Desk Award Winner, Bruce Sussman. Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Warren Carlyle (The Music Man, Hello Dolly!), this timely and captivating rags-to-riches story lost to history comes to dazzling life with a sensational cast of Broadway favorites.

The show stars Chip Zien; Sierra Boggess; Julie Benko; the Comedian Harmonists Sean Bell, Danny Kornfeld, Zal Owen, Eric Peters, Blake Roman, and Steven Telsey; Allison Semmes and Andrew O’Shanick. They join Zak Edwards, Dan Hoy, Bruce Landry, RhonniRose Mantilla, Daniel Z. Miller, Benjamin H. Moore, Matthew Mucha, Constantine Pappas, Kayleen Seidl, Kyla Stone, Bronwyn Tarboton, Kate Wesler, Stuart Zagnit, and Lee Zarrett.

The creative team for Harmony includes Beowulf Boritt (scenic design), Linda Cho & Ricky Lurie (costume design), Jules Fisher + Peggy Eisenhauer (lighting design), Dan Moses Schreier (sound design), batwin + robin productions (media design), Tom Watson (wig & hair design), Jamibeth Margolis, CSA (casting), Sara Edwards (associate director/choreographer), John O’Neill (music director), Michael Aarons (music coordinator), Doug Walter (orchestrations) and Scott Taylor Rollison (production stage manager).

Tickets are now on sale starting at $59 via www.telecharge.com, or by calling (800) 447 7400 or (212) 239-6200.

Harmony is based in part on The Comedian Harmonist Archive as curated by the late Dr. Peter Czada.

A New York Times Critic’s Pick, the musical received a 2002 Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Musical and an award for Outstanding Best Book of a Musical and the Off-Broadway Alliance’s Best New Musical for 2022. It also received eight 2022-2023 Outer Critics Circle Award nominations including Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical and two 2022 Lucille Lortel Award nominations including Outstanding Musical.

#BroadwayAlert Award-Winning Daniel Cainer’s More Jewish Chronicles (and other stories-in-song) Returning for a limited run at NYC’s SoHo Playhouse Performances begin on April 20, 2022

New York: London-based multi-award-winning songwriter, broadcaster, performer, and musical storyteller Daniel Cainer returns to NYC’s SoHo Playhouse with More Jewish Chronicles

(and other stories-in-song) for a limited run beginning on April 20 running through May 15, 2022. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by visiting SoHoPlayhouse.com.

Cainer will present a new collection of his unique, self-penned musical stories. His songs and music are for anyone who has ever wrestled with their home, heritage, and heart (and is partial to bagels). All the human condition is here, expertly brought to life with brilliant rhyming and wordplay, great musicianship, and haunting tunes you won’t forget.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll cry. You’ll have more fun than you’ve ever had with your clothes on (or off) since lockdown began or ended. Guaranteed.

Cainer has been called ‘An extraordinary performer. His songs are at times heartbreakingly poignant, at other times laugh-out-loud funny. Utterly charming, highly recommended’ Edinburgh Festivals Guide Magazine; ‘An hour in Cainer’s company is a true pleasure’ The Stage; ‘Cainer’s songs are heart-rending, delicate, and witty in all the right places’ Daily Express; ‘Lovingly detailed shaggy-dog storytelling’ Time Out.

Says Daniel: “I’m so pleased to be back at the historic SoHo Playhouse to pick up where I left off in March 2020 with some new songs and some favourites. Over the last two years, I’ve done many online concerts of course, but that’s no substitute for being in-person, in a room, and sharing with a real, live audience. But if anyone is uncomfortable about venturing out in public, they are most welcome to wear their pajamas. I might wear mine. It will be the best of both worlds’

#BroadwayAlert The International Hit KATSURA SUNSHINE’S RAKUGO Returns to New York City’s NEW WORLD STAGES March 10, 2022

And will continue its Year-Long Residency at

London’s West End at the LEICESTER SQUARE THEATER

The internationally acclaimed performer and the world’s only Western Rakugo Master, Katsura Sunshine, will simultaneously perform the show in NY and on the UK’s West End with a year-long residency at the Leicester Square Theater, which began performances December 2021, and will continue once a month for the remainder of 2022. For more information and tickets to shows in New York and London, please visit RAKGO.lol.

A celebrated, internationally renowned performer, Katsura Sunshine, originally began an extended run of Katsura Sunshine’s Rakugo in NYC in September of 2019 and opened to rave reviews; it ran for six months before the shutdown forced to shut down along with the rest of the global theatre community.

“When I first had the idea of bringing Rakugo to New York, I was met with a lot of apprehension but decided to push forward anyway. We introduced American audiences to the art of Rakugo in September of 2019 and were welcomed with amazing reviews and audience responses. We ran for an astounding six months and the world-renowned New World Stages before we had to close. I am so excited to return to New York and pick up where we left off, and this time, we are adding a monthly stop on London’s West End.” Katsura Sunshine

“The pandemic gave us all a time to regroup, refocus and rededicate ourselves to creating safe and entertaining ways that we can all reconnect as a community and storytellers. As theaters around the world continue to open, we are thrilled to bring the celebrated art of Rakugo and the unquestionable talent and charm of Sunshine back to the stage - on both sides of the Atlantic. Still, due to the Omicron variety, we will push the dates a few weeks to ensure the safety of staff and audience.” Executive Producer, Joe Trentacosta

Called the King of Kimono Comedy, Rakugo is the 400-year-old Japanese traditional art of comic storytelling. Currently, there are only 800 Rakugo Masters. Hailing from Canada, Sunshine is the only Western Rakugo Master globally and star of NHK Worldwide; he is hilarious, charming, universally funny, and very Japanese. Sunshine is the perfect performer to bridge the East and the West gap in an entertaining style. Critics have raved. “A delight, Katsura Sunshine’s Rakugo is funny and exciting. If you’re looking for a good way to laugh and forget your troubles, this is the show for you!” and “Funny and delightfully intimate with a feeling of improvisation that makes it easy to love.”

“With buoyant humor and playfulness” (NYTimes), Katsura Sunshine has performed around the world and has been called “Highly unique and hilarious! Not to be missed!” (Camden New Journal, London); “Sunshine is one of a kind! Literally!” (Islington Tribune, London); “Hilarious! Singularly Japanese and universally funny!” (The Edinburgh Reporter), “Blinding pace! Mastery of mime and physical comedy! Sheer enthusiasm and energy! It’s infectious!” (UK Anime Network), “Hilarious, universally funny!” (This Is London Magazine), “Sunshine is a must-see! The most I’ve laughed all year!” (Japan Journal, UK), “Hurray! Hurray for Sunshine!” (Nikka Times, Canada), “Sunshine has them laughing in the aisles!” (Edinburgh Evening News), “Charming! Engaging! Charismatic!” (Broadway Baby), “Drop-Dead funny!” (Metropolis, Japan) “Japan’s answer to stand-up comedy!” (CTV National News), “Fantastic! A sight to behold! Too much fun!” (CBC Radio, Canada), “Katsura Sunshine is an outstanding performer.” (Front Row Center), “Lovely and brilliantly performed” (Theatre Scene), “The show is charming, thoughtful, and is guaranteed to bring a bit of sparkle.” “Such a surprise! Sunshine, the King of Kimono Comedy is funny. There is so much to enjoy in these 75 minutes” (New York Theatre Wire), “If you’re looking for an evening of pure, unburdened laughter Katsura Sunshine might be just the man you’re looking for. (Theater is Easy), “Just watching Sunshine’s facial and gestural contortions is worth the price of admission.” (Theatre Pizzazz), “Katsura Sunshine’s Rakugo is a gift from Japan to American.” Splash Magazine.

With a minimal set, Rakugo features a lone storyteller dressed in kimono, kneeling on a cushion, using only a fan and a hand towel for props, entertains the audience with a comic monologue followed by traditional stories.

In order to become a recognized professional Rakugo storyteller, one must apprentice to a Rakugo Master, from whom one receives a stage name. The apprenticeship lasts for three to four years and is very strict. Depending on the master, the apprentice may not drink, smoke, or go on dates and is subject to a strict curfew during the apprenticeship period. The apprentice cleans the master’s house, does laundry, cooking, preparing and folding kimonos, and other chores, and learns the art of storytelling by watching the master perform and imitating. #BroadwayAlert #Pooh @WinnieThePoohShow @WinniethePooh @disneybroadway #HighlyRecommended by @ManhattanPeachy #PeachyDeegan #WhomYouKnow #ROCKEFELLERPRODUCTIONS @DISNEY WINNIE THE POOH The New Musical Stage Adaptation

Written by our Pooh, a bear of very big brain and quite qualified to review a show on his own life
Yeah!  I made it to Broadway and commissioned a new sweater by Couture Knit and had it professionally cleaned by Hallak just for the occasion!
You bet I took notes.
Right from the open with my signature song, Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Adaptation proves to be the perfect cheer-me-up as we all go into our second year of the covid misery. Is it over because covid does feel like forever...but you need to escape and get out and have fun! It is just like real life with the blustery day with actual falling leaves and snowy days with falling snow! And unlike the snow that can stick around in Manhattan, this snow was white, bright and clean! The flowers even grew for spring. And you don't have to rake or shovel. Every character proved to be a winner and true to the way A.A. Milne wrote it which is exactly what I had been hoping for!

Real-life themes of friendship are celebrated and all will revel in the sincere simplicity and joy that is conveyed right off the stage personally to you in the audience.  Piglet shows us how we all have to work together on problems.  Maybe Piglet should run for Congress or be President.

Pooh of course was my favorite. What do you want me to say: my mannerisms were correct and I had the perfect sense of optimism and joy. However, I must say that Piglet stole the show with his wonderful antics and spot-on stutter as he flew across the stage with style and merriment. Owl also flew across the stage in swooping fashion and all of the puppeteers/actors were triumphant in honoring the essence of their respective characters. They really put their heart and soul into their performances. All choreography was excellent and it was such fun to see me and my friends come to life.  I hated having to sit in my chair both times during the Tigger song because it was so infectiously terrific or rather Tigger-ific I wanted to join in.

The scenery was phenomenal and the set designers did their job well. We loved the trees, the bridge, the stream, Rabbit's garden and MOST OBVIOUSLY, THE HONEY TREE. In fact if you saw me I sat exactly right next to the honey tree and it was hard for me to behave and not pop in there myself. I will tell you that when my onstage character got stuck in it it kind of looked like Peachy on a dinner review.  The lighting was excellent and additionally there is not a bad seat in the house.  Every vantage point was spectacular.  It is big enough where you have your own space but small enough where you feel inclusion and not like a number in a crowd.

The whole show is done in one act and there is no intermission so do go to the loo first. Everyone presented vaccination cards and id so we felt very safe (I serve double duty as Peachy's bodyguard) and we were impressed with the high level of ventilation inside.  Our small criticisms of the show are that I prefer my red shirt to say my name POOH lettered on it and we are pretty big on authenticity and would have liked Christopher Robin to be British because he is British.  Plus we like that accent a lot.
If winter is not fun enough for you, clearly you haven't seen my show yet. Get away from your screens (unless of course you're glued to Whom You Know) and scurry over to West 42nd Street's 100 Acre Wood. This is for children of all ages! If you think you're too old you are not fun enough for us.

For you it might feel like forever since you've been to see a great production in person: turn that around now and see my show!

Winnie the Pooh the Musical is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know!

Don't miss the Photo Op!
I even brought my sunglasses for the Step and Repeat.
New York: Disney’s iconic Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin, and their best friends Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit and Owl (and Tigger too!) will all arrive on stage in a new beautifully-crafted musical stage adaptation. Disney’s Winnie the Pooh, the new musical stage adaptation, will open on November 4, 2021 at the newly renamed Hundred Acre Wood Theatre at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street).

The new show will feature the Sherman Brothers’ classic Grammy Award-winning music with additional songs by A.A. Milne. In a new story from the Hundred Acre Wood, this fresh stage adaptation is told with stunning life-size puppetry through the eyes of the characters we all know and love.

Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Adaptation has broken theatre box office records for largest advance in its history and is developed and presented by renowned family entertainment creator Jonathan Rockefeller (whose spectacular puppetry is omnipresent in the acclaimed productions of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show and Paddington Gets in a Jam).

A leader in family entertainment, Rockefeller Productions announces one of the country’s most thorough and considerate safety protocols for their highly anticipated new musical which includes keeping in line with current CDC and industry safety standards, all patrons will be required to wear a mask inside the theatre, and every person 12 + will be required to show proof of vaccine before entering the theatre. Those under 12 years old will be required to show evidence of a negative PCR COVID test within 3 days of the performance or a negative COVID rapid antigen test from a doctor or testing site within 6 hours of performance.

Rockefeller Productions has made testing free and easy as they have partnered with Dr. Karen Thornton to provide free rapid on-site testing directly outside of Theatre Row up to 1.5 hours before curtain time. These safety measures are the most complete and thoughtful plan to bring audiences back to the theatre with confidence.

The cast and creative team includes Jake Bazel (TV: “Sesame Street”, Off-Broadway: Paddington Gets in a Jam ) as Pooh, Chris Palmieri (TV: Emmy nominated “Snug's House”) as Tigger, Kirsty Moon (Rockefeller Productions’ The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show, Paddington Gets in a Jam) and Kristina Dizon (National Tour: Sesame Street) alternating the roles of Piglet/Roo and Kanga, Emmanuel Elpenord (Rockefeller Productions' The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show) as Eeyore, Rabbit & Owl, Kaydn Kuioka, Max Lamberg and Cooper Lantz share the role of Christopher Robin and Sebastiano Ricci is the understudy. ABOUT THE SHOW

Winnie the Pooh has been enjoyed by millions of readers and viewers ever since English author A.A. Milne first chronicled the adventures of Christopher Robin’s friends in the Hundred Acre Wood in 1926. The books, featuring illustrations by English illustrator E.H. Shephard, have sold over 50 million copies worldwide. The theatrical rights to the Pooh stories were acquired by Disney in 1961, with an original intent to produce a feature film, but after production began, Walt Disney decided to make short featurettes instead. The three featurettes were subsequently incorporated into the feature The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. This was the last film in the Disney canon in which Walt Disney had personal involvement. The first featurette, Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree was released during his lifetime, while Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day was still in development. Disney’s Winnie the Pooh has since become one of the best-loved and most successful franchises in history.

The Sherman Brothers are the multi-talented Oscar® and Grammy® Award-winning American songwriting duo of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. The Sherman Brothers wrote more motion-picture musical scores than any other songwriting team in film history. Among these are the Disney classics Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and The Aristocats. The Sherman Brothers worked directly with Walt Disney on the first two Winnie the Pooh featurettes: Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (which garnered a Grammy Award nomination) and Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. The brothers won a Grammy Award for the third featurette: Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too. All three featurettes were incorporated into the 1977 musical film The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. The duo also wrote songs for Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore and The Tigger Movie, with their music also featured in the movie Christopher Robin.

Jonathan Rockefeller and Rockefeller Productions embraced the challenge of re-imaging Disney’s Winnie the Pooh for a new audience by bringing it to life on stage in puppet form. The company has garnered global accolades, from critics and audiences alike, for their production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show, with 14 productions playing on four continents. An extended run of the show in New York City culminated in Drama Desk and Off-Broadway Alliance nominations, as did their production of Paddington Gets in a Jam, which tours China and the US later this year. Other projects include Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, which plays on three continents, Mr. Men and Little Miss Show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the award-winning short film, 10 Little Rubber Ducks, written by preeminent author/illustrator Eric Carle.

Whom You Know Congratulates their new President, Elizabeth Ann Stribling-Kivlan:

 Star of the show
Earlier today we mentioned that our music column is quite small; now we'll tell you it is big compared to our Broadway column.  We are pretty confident in knowing what we believe will be a hit before we see it, and in this case, "A Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder" exceeded our expectations, which almost nothing does.  If every show were as tremendously brilliant as this bastion of hilarity with acting talent worth its weight in gold, we would be spending most of our time at Broadway shows instead of going maybe once a year.  So why did we love it?   Well, if you cast Bryce in a starring role, studies show that we will likely review it.  But more than that, we are quintessentially English, silly.  It's not Who You Know, it's Whom You Know (up with correct English grammar) and you can bet your bottom dollar that Peachy would be pleased as punch to find out she's a countess, and besides, our pal
Mover and Shaker Bryce Pinkham
is Monty Navarro, star of the show: so good at being so bad.  And to be precise, that's Monty D'YSQUITH Navarro.  Can you imagine anything more exciting than finding out you are part of the peerage?  We've reviewed Mover and Shaker Carol Wallace's To Marry An English Lord, we reviewed the first three seasons of Downton Abbey by episode and created a Facebook group Downton Abbey is Peachy.  We work with the BBC on Born to Royalty, the Royal Collection, Upstairs Downstairs, Silk, Damian Lewis -this list could go on and on and we expect it to- and stay tuned to hear what we think of Paradise (it is PHENOMENAL.)  So the combination of an English setting and theme, complete hilarity, and our pal who embraces Ever to Excel made us want to go see this.  Bryce's star power extends to his striking singing ability solo even when climbing ladders, and he is a master of the crescendo and decrescendo.  His passionate intensity for revenge shines through in deepest noir when he's heartlessly cast away from his mother's family, who disinherited her and so him when she married his father.  No, you are not a fool to dream you'll be Earl someday.  And pigs can fly, even our friends Eric and Christopher say so.

And when dueting with Jefferson Mays, Bryce would quite agree we think-they make quite a pair, especially when you add the scooter.  Some people are born gifted.  Others know how to make the most of their talents.  Not only was Bryce born gifted but also his innate ability to capitalize on his capacity puts him in a class by himself.  If you don't know him, he's following his own yellow brick road to stardom and we fully expect to see him in blockbuster movies before you know it.
We do not know Jefferson Mays but were beyond delighted with his talents of the highest caliber.   "I Don't Understand the Poor" was a number that brought tears to our eyes.  We are highly impressed by his complete versatility in playing so many characters so well and great quick costume changes too!  Of course we have been singing Bryce's praises since Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (Ghost as well) however we have not seen him surrounded by such strong acting aptitude before this.  The depth of the cast is absolutely killer.  We've got a whole new outlook on casting since seeing HBO's awesome documentary Casting By.  The chemistry among cast members is undeniably the best.
If you are an old girl or even an ancient (we brought an ancient with us), the start of the show with black sunglasses will strike a chord of tradition within you.  Revenge and retribution...looking back in a final confession in prison (if you thought Bates had challenges!)...and in a tizzy before you know it Miss Shingle is upon us (she reminds us of Miss Flite in Bleak House which is another BBC hit.)  If you can imagine an English Barbie from the days of London 1909, Lisa O'Hare as Sibella Hallward is the proper embodiment and she has clearcut starpower as well not only in her sensational singing but also her stellar style.  Loved her!  Phoebe D'Ysquith is sweetly powerful, played by Lauren Worsham and we loved her swing scene.
The sets are breathtaking and fun. We adored the singing paintings so much and every chord struck our funny bone.  Along with Monty you'll tour the castle, and for all the preppies reading us, know that the English Salisbury is included.
Miss Shingle and Monty

Naturally, there are many good ideas on how to murder your relatives here, all coming from a fictional standpoint of course!  Our hats off to the super clever lyricists: Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak.  And the characters are delightfully exaggerated both in how they are scripted and dazzlingly executed.  Glorious absurdity awaits you sneaking up at every opportunity, and guess who's got poison in their pocket.  The skating scene we could not get enough of, and though the show is long the pace is not slow: beaucoup de interesting characters and fascinating settings kept us entertained.  The best scene in our humble opinion is when Monty gets engaged and the back and forth between him with both Sibella Hallward and Phoebe D'Ysquith-all three had us completely enraptured with the effectiveness of doors.
Sibella Hallward and Monty Navarro

More fun ensues with the talking dead fox.  Lady Salome is the embodiment of Mrs. Jellyby of Bleak House.  Costumes are superbly accurate and stunning as well.  The world would be in perfect condition if we could all live inside out...bottom line: this show is the bee's knees (except for that poor ancestor - we believe the third).  Our viewing friend believes this show is Gilbert and Sullivan meets Harvard Hasty Pudding...and we believe it's even better than that since it stars a Boston College Eagle.
Is there anything of more consequence than Love and Murder?
Lessons learned: Be Careful with your Memoirs.
Quite the dinner table

A lot of people sing the praise of a show with a doorbell, but THIS is the door both gentlemen and ladies should be ringing.  By the way, there was not an empty seat in the house the night we saw the show.
If Broadway had a Stanley Cup Final, this show would be a conference champion and win the cup.
"A Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder" has earned Whom You Know's Highest Recommendation.

On Tuesday, October 22, Broadway's bloody brilliant new musical, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, began performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 W. 48th Street). Following critically acclaimed, smash-hit runs at The Hartford Stage and San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder stars Tony® Award Winner Jefferson Mays and Bryce Pinkham, and features Lisa O'Hare, Lauren Worsham, Jane Carr, Pamela Bob, Joanna Glushak, Eddie Korbich, Jeff Kready, Mark Ledbetter, Jennifer Smith, Price Waldman, and Catherine Walker. A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder officially opens on Sunday, November 17.

A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder features a book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak, and lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak. Darko Tresnjak directs and Peggy Hickey choreographs.

Monty Navarro (Pinkham) has just received some really great news from his late mother’s lifelong friend Miss Shingle (Carr)! He’s a long-lost member of a noble family and could become the next Earl of Highhurst. There are only eight minor issues, namely the other relatives who precede him in line for the title. So Monty does what any ambitious, highborn gentleman would do: he sets out to eliminate them one by one, all while juggling his mistress (O'Hare) (she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (Worsham) (she’s his cousin, but who’s keeping track?), plus the constant threat of landing behind bars! But it will all be worth it if he can slay his way into Highhurst Castle…and be done in time for tea. Each of the eight heirs perilously standing in the way of Monty’s fortune are played by Jefferson Mays, in one of the most breathtaking, whiplash-inducing performances ever attempted on the American stage.

The design team for A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder includes Alexander Dodge (Scenic Design), Linda Cho (Costume Design), Philip S. Rosenberg (Lighting Design), Dan Moses Schreier (Sound Design), Aaron Rhyne (Projections Design), and Charles LaPointe (Wig Design). Orchestrations are by Jonathan Tunick and Vocal Arrangements are by Dianne Adams McDowell and Steven Lutvak. Paul Staroba serves as Music Director.
