NIGHTLIGHT: Amber De Vos’s “Me, Nycelf and Eye”

It's not the first time we've said this, and it won't be the last time either, but we always say anything boys can do, girls can do better and Amber De Vos is an example of this both in her work with Patrick McMullan and with her independent work on show now.  Recently Whom You Know attended an event at Bo Concept where Amber's photography sparkled as brightly as the stunning diamond necklace she wore from Diamond Club International. If that's not one of the places where you buy your diamonds, we don't know where you're shopping.  Though, she has been in the photography game for 12 years running, having started her New York career in the archives of the prestigious Magnum Photos, Amber De Vos is best known for her professional work with Patrick McMullan Company with her images appearing in the likes of ArtForum, Vanity Fair, Vogue, and others.   Though Whom You Know is a tribute to the English language and we use photos rarely as it is not part of our overall vision for this site, Peachy Deegan herself began as a professional photographer nearly 15 years ago and she still does it from time to time...Peachy has owned at least one camera since the age of 6, given to her by her grandmother who appears on the right side always of Whom You Know.  On her opening night, Amber was joined by Chance Yeh, Nick Hunt, Jimi Celeste and Clint Spaulding who also are Patrick McMullan photographers, and Peachy hopes they still take her picture even though she just said Amber does a better job!  This exhibition marks the first time she has shown her fine art work solo. The exhibition will be on display until September 30th.

Not only was there art, but also there was goodwill. De Vos also collaborated with Slideluck Potshow founder Casey Kelbaugh to hold an on-site raffle, which raised funds for the Slideluck Youth Initiative, an amazing program that teaches photography and visual imagery to under privileged children of which De Vos is the director.  The opening of Amber De Vos’s “Me, Nycelf and Eye” generously hosted by Patrick McMullan himself, was a huge success with such guests in attendance as painter Chuck Close, master photographer Bruce Davidson, socialites Sharon Bush and Emma Snowdon-Jones, Lady Liliana Cavendish, Wendy Diamond and even fashion designer Nicole Miller as well as hundreds of other enthusiasts. Exhibited in BoConcept’s Chelsea location, guests enjoyed the unique and painterly color images of New York cityscapes at sunset, and shadowy self-portraits while munching on Pop Chips and specially designed mini-cupcakes by Connor Cakes, sipping on wine and Izze sparkling soda.
