Champagne Wishes meets Peachy and the City: The Graydon Carter from The Savoy in London!

Last night, Peachy Deegan was at The Plaza for the Landmarks Conservancy's 2010 Living Landmarks Celebration: http://www.whomyouknow.com/2010/09/upcoming-nightlight-new-york-landmarks.html
We love this organization and this is our 2nd consecutive Gala we've covered for them.
We'll be writing on the event itself shortly!

Early on in cocktail hour, Peachy was mingling and the first person she encountered was Graydon Carter, who was pleasant as punch, and a Vanity Fair colleague and friend, Beth Kseniak, who was equally pleasing.  In conversation Graydon Carter mentioned that he was drinking The Graydon Carter, which we think is the ultimate in sophistication, drinking a drink named after you.  Graydon told Peachy that it is served at The Savoy in London.  As we love love love cocktails and of course cocktail hour, we contacted The Savoy today to see how we can make The Graydon Carter.  Not only can you chat with a Living Landmark but you can drink one too now!  If you weren't at The Plaza with Graydon you can drink his drink; follow this!

Daniel Baernreuthe, American Bar Manager of The Savoy enlightened Peachy Deegan and told her this:

The below drink has been created for Mr. Graydon Carter by one of my bartenders, Ladislav Piljar, to honour the host of our re-opening party on the 28th of October.

THE GRAYDON CARTER

Recipe:

50ml Grey Goose
30ml Martini Rosso
25ml Lemon juice
20ml Agave syrup
15ml Green Chartreause

Shake and strain into Highball glass over cubed ice
Top-up with soda

Garnish with lemon twist and cherry.

Inspiration:
Twist on a Collins style drinks.
First Collins was created and served in London around 1830 in Limerick house off the Regent street.
Collinses hit the Americas in 1870's so it is possible, that these style of drinks were popular, demanded and enjoyed by what would have been American clientele at the time when the Savoy Hotel and American Bar first opened in 1889.

So what happened next?  If you read Whom You Know on any kind of regular basis, you can only guess that of course Peachy asked Graydon if he's been to Swifty's, because at Swifty's you can drink The Peachy Deegan!~  We will be filling you in on that in the near future as well.  Unfortunately you cannot drink The Peachy Deegan at The Plaza because they don't have Star Vodka there now, but maybe someday...
