NIGHTLIGHT: NEW ENGLAND SOCIETY CELEBRATED 205th YEAR AND HONORED TOM CHAPPELL WITH THE TOWNSEND AWARD

Whom You Know may be about the best of Manhattan and excellence everywhere, but Peachy Deegan spent the first 24 years of her life in New England (except for some time in Ireland).  And thank you to everyone who thought she was one of the scholarship recipients last Friday as she has not been in the 18-22 age range recently...On Friday, November 12th, 2010, the New England Society in the City of New York hosted its 205th Annual Dinner Dance at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City and it was a resounding success.  Whom You Know is thrilled to kick off our coverage of this amazing organization and Peachy herself has roots in New England; she is third generation New England on the newest end and thirteenth generation New England on the oldest end.  Members and friends gathered to honor Tom Chappell, co-founder of Tom's of Maine and Ramblers Ways, with the Reginald T. Townsend Award, as well as honor the current and past New England Society scholarship recipients.

Upon accepting his the Townsend Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement while representing the finest attributes of the New England character, Tom accurately defined the New England character as the spirit of freedom that comes from acting in a socially responsible manner.  He also shared the story of his New England and New York ancestry.  His gracious words and personal message were enthusiastically received by the 150 guests, including scholarship recipients: Juliette Ferrigno, Class of 2013, Gregory Gumbs, Class of 2010, and Cathya Solano, Trinity Class of 2011. The dancing and celebrating continued onuntil midnight and an over all terrific evening was had by all thanks to co-chairs Christopher and Liz Apgar, Tom Farrell and Suzanne Milton.

Peachy Deegan was pleased to see and meet:

Guy Robinson, normally we would be thrilled with any one of these three, but we are even more excited because Guy was so great on all of these talking points: 1. His 3 nieces attended Farmington (and Peachy was a 4 year senior and was on the Alumnae Board not long ago) 2. He played right wing on the Yale hockey team for four years after playing three years at Andover (you know who was stats girl at Boston College) and 3. He is friends with Robert Caravaggi and goes to Swifty's so we hope you are helping us tell the world about The Peachy Deegan, Guy!
Juliette Ferrigno
Karen and Stuart Bevan, we love people from West Hartford!
Gail Gaston, how delightful that you are friends with Blaine and Robert!
Thomas F. Pike, President of St. Nicholas Society
