Peachy Picks Go Burger

Go Burger was Terrific Takeout:

So it graduated to Tasty Tidbits:
The salads are simply astounding at Go Burger; they are more than just burgers at Go Burger...they should almost call it Go (have a) Burger & a Salad!  Peachy Deegan began with the chicken caesar salad and every bite was fresh, flavorful and delicious.  They are also quite large and Peachy wound up taking some of hers home....for burgers, she tried the Prime Steakhouse Burger and it is worth the $18 if you are wondering.  But an $18 entree is definitely on the low end of the scale of entrees for our Peachy's Picks Panel across the board among the places we've reviewed.
Here it is!  A custom blend of thirty-day dry-aged prime beef (brisket, shortribs, sirloin), and topped with carmelized onions, it will melt in your mouth.  Corey G was a fantastic waiter the entire night.  Peachy sipped on a lovely Rose wine and for dessert she got the peachiest item on the menu: Fuzzy the Bear which is peach schnapps, vanilla ice cream and peach puree:
It was overwhelmingly vanilla she thought, but then of course Peachy thinks it can't be too peachy.  Our panel says:

Go Burger has a casual, high end sports bar ambience with several large flat screen TV's behind the bar.  The appetizer was the highlight of my dining experience, which is surprising considering it was just chopped salad.  The combination of the vegetables, fresh lettuce, tasty house vinaigrette, and the surprisingly large portions made the dish almost enough for an entree.  The Classic Burger was as it sounds, a classic hamburger, but it was moist and tasty.
The bun was not very soft, but pretty hard, which I think was by design.  Overall, the burger tasted great, I just wish the actual burger patty was a bit bigger relative to the bun.  Finally, I tasted the chocolate fudge sundae comprised of whipped cream, candied walnuts, chocolate and vanilla ice-cream, along with small bits of soft brownie, which was a great dessert to end a decadent feast.  If you are looking for a classic American burger and a casual, sports infused dining experience, GoBurger will not disappoint!

Go Burgers is perfect for a relaxed, blue-jeans-wearing kind of meal with friends.  I was particularly delighted to find outstanding burgers that you could consume while enjoying adult beverages.  The chopped salad was exceptional.  I’ve had salads at other restaurants at twice the price and half the flavor.  The servings were generous enough so that most of the panel took home leftover salad for the next day.  A big plus.  Part of the menu included a choice of fries with different dipping sauces.  Your panel chose regular Waffle Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, and Skinny Fries. Trying the different fries with the different dipping sauces was enjoyable and the subject of a lot of conversation.
Another big plus. I chose the “C Cubed” for my burger.  The "C" stands for chicken, and it was tasty, with avocado, bacon, lettuce and red onion.  The chicken was a little tough, which usually comes from over-cooking.  Over-cooking dries out chicken, and dry chicken and tough chicken are pretty much the same thing. (I say this as a cookbook author and also someone in the chicken industry.)  It wasn’t bad, but it was noticeable.  That’s actually the only flaw I found in the entire meal.  One of the servers was wearing a T-shirt that almost sums up the experience of dining at Go Burgers:  “If you are what you eat, I am fast, ez, and cheap.”   Go Burgers is fast, easy, inexpensive, and also, highly enjoyable.  I would take friends there when looking for an informal evening with lots of good eating.

Go Burger is a fun place to go for some casual fare.  Over the years Peachy and I have tasted burgers at many NYC establishments; Go Burger offers a bit more of an upbeat, modern atmosphere compared to some of the more traditional burger establishments and is worth trying out!  The music is peppy but not too loud, and our sever Corey greeted us with a genuine smile.  I decided to make a decadent evening of it and started off by ordering a serving of Fried Dill Pickles.  I have never tasted anything quite like this before: a crunchy green dill pickle chip fried in a crisp golden batter, and definitely augmented by a dip in the spicy Ranch-Chili Paprika sauce. I recommend sharing these with the table to make sure you have room for your burgers.  For those seeking healthier fare the Chopped Salad was quite good and could be a meal by itself.  The salad was colorful and fresh and each bite included radicchio, corn, olives, hearts of palm and tasty feta; the amount of dressing it was tossed with was just right.  Like many esteemed NYC burgers, Go Burgers are made with beef supplied by Pat LaFrieda.  I tried something unique called the Smashed Burger (which I am told is ordered twice as often as the Classic). It is unique to Go Burger and not on the BLT Burger menu.  First the onions are cooked on the griddle, and then the meat is smashed on top of it, cooking atop of caramelizing onions.  I topped mine with cheddar and it was juicy with a golden bun decked out in sesame seeds.  We sampled a few of the fries- take your pick as they are all good! I favored the sweet potato fries which were thin and crisp with just enough salt to balance the sweet of the potato.

The duck fat fries were also a treat; they are hearty, thick slices potatoes with the skin on and have a very rich flavor.  I found I didn’t really need to dip these in ketchup or the special sauce because they were good on their own.    Onto the sweets…there is an array of ways to imbibe ice cream and alcohol on the menu!  I had “Keith’s Quencher”, which was a Guinness served with coffee ice cream…oh my! I think this was my favorite thing of the whole meal!  However I did manage to get in a few bites of the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae.  This whimsical Sundae was made with actual twinkies- I have to say that twinkies and ice cream are delicious together.  This sundae had both strawberry and vanilla ice cream and was also topped with shortbread cookies crumbled on top.   Although I chose the path of juicy burgers, multiple fried side dishes and lots of ice cream, if you don’t live so much on the wild side the menu does offer falafel, salmon and turkey burgers..but I say throw caution to the wind and go all out!  You can always go the gym tomorrow!
