Peachy Picks York Grill

You can see the steam piping from the Sizzling Mushroom Platter, however the video really captures the animated mushrooms in action:
We do not often use video in reviews, but that was how amazing that appetizer was!
Crimini, Portabello and Shiitake mushrooms sauteed with cherry tomatoes, onions, garlic and herbs on a sizzling platter with grilled Balthazar bread were the perfect start to Peachy's York Grill experience and you absolutely MUST order this appetizer.  Peachy is in love with it.  It is the best recent appetizer she has had.

York Grill was first featured in Terrific Takeout:

and easily advanced to Tasty Tidbits:

York Grill has earned a spot in Peachy's Picks and its total professionalism overall, top cuisine, and classy atmosphere make this worth the jaunt to York Avenue even if you live in Tribeca.  Or Connecticut, for that matter.  Brothers Charles and Anthony Greco do the little things right that many restaurants overlook.  Right down to the Pepperjack butter, York Grill has every little advantage covered.  As a special of the night, the Certified Black Angus Beef Tenderloin Tartar mounted with capers, red onion, herbs and serrano chili aioli served with crispy fried green plantain chips dusted in sugar cane and cayenne pepper and finished with a crown of frisee greens and salsa verde highlighted the southwestern expertise of Chef Stefan Wiles, who graciously came out early in our meal and greeted us, offering both helpful suggestions and a history of the cuisine at York Grill.
The Beef Tartar was simply divine:
The carnivores of Whom You Know continued to the Beef Tenderloin board, which was suggested by the Chef and just as excellent, if not better than the Beef Tartar.  Grilled filet mignon and garlic crostinis with bechamel spinach served with horseradish cream and house made steak dipping sauce will have you at hello!
A staple of the menu at York Grill is the Grilled Marinated Skirt Steak.  Peachy Deegan ordered it medium and it was delivered medium, medium excellent, that is!  Their house specialty served with caramelized onions, garlic mashed potatoes, and chef's vegetable of the day (wax beans, green beans, carrots, broccoli rabe the night Peachy had it) finished with a burgundy demi glace drizzle was supremely succulent and delicious!
And Peachy Deegan, the total chocoholic, delighted in the chocolate molten cake!  Lance was one of the most cordial and impressive waiters we have ever encountered, and his superior skills highlighted what was already outstanding at York Grill.  Peachy sipped on a spectacular Nautique Rose from Peconic Bay Winery that is perfection for summer.  We would love to return for their Lobster Clambake which they have ever Friday and Saturday....as we close in on nearly 90 reviews by now, Peachy Deegan is getting pickier and pickier with every one.  She did not find one point all night that was a flaw of York Grill.  The only thing missing?  The Peachy Deegan cocktail of course but that may only be a matter of time...Charles and Anthony Greco are major players of the hospitality industry and have been in it longer than Peachy has been alive, and she is older than she looks.  Their first venture encompassed seventeen nightclubs in the United States back then...and we are glad that their current venture is on York Avenue now.
Our esteemed panel adds:
With such a unassuming name like the York Grill, one would be surprised at all the little things that make this restaurant a joy to experience. There was just enough individualism in the interior design to make the place stylish without being over the top. And the music volume was just right; loud enough to recognize the tune, but soft enough for your party to converse comfortably.
I started out with the chilled organic white and yellow roasted corn soup. It was light, slightly sweet, refreshing and a very welcome reprieve from the 90 degree heat outside. Executive Chef, Stefan Wile's South Western and Cajun influence was very apparent and added a bit of spice to the traditional steak house fare, from the pepper jack butter to the Texas sized toast on Peachy's Sizzling Mushroom Platter.
For my main course, I ordered the Bucatini Pasta "Jabalaya" which came in a hearty portion. The California rock shrimp and crawfish tails were tender and nicely cooked. Mindful of delicate palates in the upper east side, the dish was tasty but not overpowering. Consistent with the rest of the menu, York Grill offered deserts with a twist, such as the cheese cake parfait that was creamy and delicious but much more fun to eat, served in an ice cream sundae glass.
I don't often venture as far east as York Avenue, but next time I do, I'd suggest York Grill for fine dining.

We had the great pleasure of dining at York Grill on York Avenue and 89th Street on the Upper East Side recently. We were very impressed with the ambiance, old world charm, muted lighting, colorful artwork and spacious, private seating areas of the restaurant which attracts predominantly locals but which should be visited by anyone looking to impress for business, date, etc.

For an appetizer, we sampled the yellowfin tuna tacos with a wasabi ginger garnishment which were very fresh, delicious and not too filling. For the entree we savored the double cut pork chops with a green peppercorn sauce accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables.

Though the portion of pork chops was enormous and enough for 2-3, it was very tender and full of flavour with the sauce. This dish was worth the bit of an extra wait for its cooking. Overall, we were very impressed by the top-notch service from Stefan, our conscientious, well-trained, attentive, expert waiter as well as Michael, the co-owner. We highly recommend York Grill and will certainly return.
