READ THIS: Eloise at Christmastime by Kay Thompson Illustrated by Hilary Knight

You know Eloise is just fahbulous dahling in Hollywood:

And The Ultimate Eloise is simply tops:

Let's fast forward to Christmas! Forget the air conditioner! Just Read This! The Petite Peachy Panel raves:

I can't wait for Christmas time to roll around. The reason--Eloise at Christmastime! My students really connect with Eloise because they are just as excited about Christmas time as Eloise. I usually read this story as a read aloud and then have the students write about the holidays at their house. I also love the TV movie that goes along with this book. I always read the story, we watch the movie and then do a compare and contrast lesson. I've had many teachers pass by while we are doing this lesson and they ask to sit in or ask if there is a time I can come model this lesson for their class. Eloise offers so many different experiences for my class, that I can't see teaching without her. Eloise at Christmastime is a must for anyone who loves the holidays.

Even though it is not Christmastime here in NY, reading Eloise at Christmastime certainly put me in the mood. The guests at the plaza are in for a real treat this season. She goes all out in her preparations for Christmas. Tinsel and presents and candy canes are a perfect match for Miss Eloise. Who could not love the passion that this little girl has. Caroling on each floor, decorating each thermostat with a tassel and writing Merry Christmas all over the walls. Nanny and Eloise have such a ball, celebrating this special holiday. Dancing and singing and creating quite a festive day. So whether it is December or not, there is no time to spare. Go get “Eloise at Christmas” time if you dare.

We are a family that loves everything about Christmas! From the cookies to the decorations to the music to the books. Needless to say, my four year old was delighted when I introduced him to "Eloise at Christmastime"! The story begins on Christmas Eve as a blizzard strikes Manhattan. Eloise and her nanny are cuddled up in a chair by the fire. Then...Eloise is off and running, literally. She decks herself out with jingle bells and a halo (ha!) of mistletoe and sets out to spread some Christmas cheer around the Plaza. Then it is action action action. Eloise is here, there, everywhere! Decorating, singing, giving gifts until a phone call comes in from her mother who is abroad. My four year old wondered why Eloise wasn't "with her mommy on Christmas Eve" as he looked at me with sad eyes. Luckily, that sad moment was quickly followed by Eloise's Santa Claus dream sequence and the excitement of Christmas morning! "Eloise at Christmastime" is a fun read that any child (and adult!) will love love love!
Who doesn't LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Eloise? How can you not love her even more at Christmastime? Answer -- you cannot! You absolutely must. I mean seriously, who doesn't want to be "inside the Plaza...cozy and warm in our room on the tippy top floor." Eloise at Christmastime is fantastic way to celebrate the season with your favorite petite New Yorker. The heartwarming story allows your little ones to see that no matter how hectic Eloise can be, she always takes time to do something special for all the people in her life. A great lesson to be reminded of, especially during the holiday season. If you have a little girl, this is an absolute must read before Santa appears. It's also a great present for all of us that are still young at heart!
