IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN BILLBOARD RECORDING ARTIST MOVER AND SHAKER CONSUELO COSTIN DIES IN HER NEW VIDEO “FEEL SO ALIVE”

Consuelo Costin, eighth generation descendent of Cornelius Vanderbilt, releases her latest music video today for her current single “Feel So Alive” on her YouTube Channel (www.youtube.com/consuelocostin). Arriving just in time for Halloween, the edgy film-style video for the hit track, directed by T. Abram Cox, was shot in a morgue, set at the very real Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena to capture the video’s eerie vibe. Consuelo was one of the very first Movers and Shakers on Whom You Know, featured in April 2009: http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/04/movers-and-shakers-consuelo-vanderbilt.html

“Feel So Alive” took the biggest jump on the Billboard Dance charts last month and also earned Costin the #2 ‘Breakout Artist’ slot for Hot Dance Club Play. The upbeat track was co-written and produced by Peter Amato, who has collaborated with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Ricky Martin and LeAnn Rimes.

Consuelo’s previous offering, “Naked”, spent 16 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Dance Charts, peaking at #12. The single climbed the USA National Club and Dance charts Top 40 as well as several other notable registers, such as the Zip DJ Charts and the Dixie Dance Kings (DDK) Dance Charts. The ‘Naked’ music video, which has received more than 150,000 hits on YouTube, was produced by much of the same team as the current video, including director T. Abram Cox, producers Rafael Feldman and Michelle Oberg and VFX director Shaun Sewter/Moo Studios.

Costin’s album is due for release early next year. The “Feel So Alive” single is currently available for download via iTunes and other media outlets. For a limited time only, preview available at http://soundcloud.com/consuelocostin/

Peachy Deegan interviewed Consuelo Costin for Whom You Know.

Peachy Deegan: How were you creatively inspired in the song "Feel So Alive" and did you write it and/or arrange it?
Consuelo Costin: I am so in love with old fashioned romance and obsessed with Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire movies. The song was inspired by that era... chivalry, falling in love and that old school idea of romance that makes a girl feel so alive (not to sound cheesy!) I did write the song with producer Peter Amato.

When you begin with a song, how does making the video evolve?
There have been many songs I have written where I've been able to visualize the video as I write. In this case, the director T. Abram Cox, with whom I had worked on the previous video, pitched me this radical idea that was so opposite to the song and I loved it. It was dangerous, risqué and exciting... He had me at, "I want to cut you up."

Will the audience find out what the love letter said that you sing of early in the song?
They will have to watch the video to find out... ha ha!

What was the most challenging aspect of making this video?
Being locked up in the metal drawer or 'dungeon' as I called it, where we all will go one day. The crew left me in there for a while at one point and I thought I was going to lose my mind.

The dark tone of the morgue contrasted with the feeling of being present we think is quite effective artistically; how did you come up with this unique idea?
I cannot take credit for that. This was an idea that the director presented to me, based on an experience he'd had as a child. I have so much respect and trust for him that I knew he would do a brilliant job.

How did it feel to die on video?
Let me tell you, if anyone has ever tried to keep their eyes open, not blink and hold their breath for over several minutes at a time, you really feel like you might just die. It was so hard, they kept screaming, "Don't blink! Don’t breathe!" Then that one tear came out and it was pure magic.

What would surprise most people about a morgue from your experience?
The fact that your mind and imagination absolutely take over and it's really very peaceful.

When next year does your album come out? We look forward to it.
I am very excited about my album; it will be coming out in the early part of the year.

We love your dress in the video. Who is the designer?
Her name is Tiffany Maxwell and she designed it specifically for the video. She is a sweetheart and so incredibly talented.

How did you enjoy executing this song compared to your previous musical endeavors?
Sometimes songs come very quickly and others are more challenging. I found this one to be quite difficult in the beginning but once I found the melody of the chorus and the story became clear, I really found my passion for the song.

Did you dress up for Halloween?
I did. I was a futuristic sexy space girl... like an x-rated Judy Jetson.

Please update our readers on how Soho Muse is evolving; we had featured it here http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/05/big-apple-business-sohomuse.html
I am very excited to say will be launching next year. It is presently being built.

Kick Kennedy told us awhile ago that The Legacy Group was on the back burner so to speak; are there plans to reignite it? We thought it was an excellent idea.
It was a brilliant idea. There are no plans as of yet to re launch, but you never know what the future holds.

How is your ongoing effort to support Ovarian Cancer Research going?
It is my life's journey to help in any way I can to eventually find a cure. There is always a battle for funding and creating awareness, but it's a cause I'm willing to fight for.

Where do you think is the best place to get a guacamole burger in Manhattan?
I have yet to find my favorite guacamole burger in New York, and I'm open to recommendations, but for a straight-up burger? JG Melons is a heavenly, guilty pleasure.

What or who has had the most influence on your pursuit of excellence?
My stepfather, Rick Mccallum. He has built his success on sheer hard work and perseverance. He showed me the meaning of determination and taught me to never settle for anything other than being my best.

What are you proudest of and why?
Getting married and finding this beautiful man to love me with all of my crazy quirks and insanity.

What would you like to do professionally that you have not yet had the opportunity to do?
I want to start a multimedia company in the next few years.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you at a cocktail party?
Pouring Red Wine on the host's beautiful new white dress. I have never run so fast in all my life.

Who would you like to be for a day and why?
Can it be a person from the past? If so, I would love to be Ginger Rogers and dance and sing with Fred Astaire.

If you could have anything in Manhattan named after you what would it be and why?
A wine and a slice of pie. Wine gets better with age and a slice of pie is like a slice of life... the more bites you take the more you want to eat.

If you could have dinner with any person living or passed, who would it be and why?
Queen Elizabeth the 1st. She was an icon. A brave woman who stood for what she believed in, fighting her way through sheer ridicule but never backing down on her beliefs.

What has been your best Manhattan art or music experience?
I think performing in Central Park with Vanessa Carlton, Mya and Tweet was one of the greatest moments in my career and life.

Other than Movers and Shakers of course, what is your favorite Whom You Know column and what do you like about it?
I love the cuisine and drinks columns. I love dining out more than anything in the world (including diamonds). I'm always looking for tips on new and exciting restaurants and dishes. As for drinks... I'm pleading the 5th!

Have you drank The Peachy Deegan yet and if not, why not?
I have not but I would love to. They're hard to come by in LA, but that's my first order of business when I get back to New York.

What else should Whom You Know readers know about you?
My household is like a constant battle for attention between me, my husband and our Pomeranian named Bugsy. Bugsy usually wins. Also... go and watch the video! www.youtube.com/consuelocostin
