It's not who you know, it's Whom You Know, and we know Jimmy Neary.  Click on his name there to see what we thought of him...we're going to tell you right off the bat, The Lost Years is without a doubt the best fiction book we have read in 2012, and here's why.  First off, Mary Higgins Clark is master of plots.  (Of course you know by now that the Irish have a gift of the gab that few other nationalities possess.)  She weaves a web of intrigue that few can do, and the reader is left staying up all night just dying to know what happens next.  We will tell you this involves a murder, and some important papers...and you'll find yourself in alliance with Mariah (ooh Peachy's great-great grandmother from the border of Roscommon and Galway was named Maria Finneran but she had no "h"), the protagonist.  Daughter of said murder victim, she is also a woman on Wall Street so how can you not cheer for her!?!

Character by character, page by page, you'll find yourself wondering what will happen next and met with many surprises along the way, if we may say so ourselves.  If you are the type that reads books or watches movies and completely fancy yourself one that can predict all, here is a challenge for you!  And if you live in New York, you'll be reading about many spots that you'll know and you may even wind up being even more guarded in your own life, but remember this is fiction!

This work also explores the challenges of Alzheimer's which many confront in today's world.  How responsible is one with that horrible disease for their own actions?  This book could be quite debate-provoking on many levels as well and the positions that different legal entities take in this book may leave you wondering just how the systems reach a conclusion...how will it all end?  Does this story have a happy ending, and if it is happy, how happy can it be considering the murder?  You'll have to find out...READ THIS!

Whom You Know Gives The Lost Years Our Highest Recommendation!
There are two kinds of people in this world: those that are Irish and those that wish they were...Now you go see Jimmy Neary too for dinner:

From one of the most beloved storytellers of our time and perennial New York Times bestselling author, Mary Higgins Clark, comes her most astonishing and dramatic novel to date: THE LOST YEARS (Simon & Schuster; April 3, 2012; $26.99). For the first time in her long career, America’s Queen of Suspense explores the intrigue of ancient religious relics—in this case a letter written by Christ—and also brings to the fore a modern moral dilemma: Are people suffering from brain-altering diseases like Alzheimer’s responsible for their actions, even one as horrific as murder?

Dr. Jonathan Lyons, a 70-year-old biblical scholar, believes he has found the rarest of parchments: a letter that may have been written by Jesus Christ. Stolen from the Vatican library in the 1400s, it was assumed to be lost forever. If authenticated, it may be the most revered document in human history—“the holiest of the holy”—and certainly the most coveted and valuable object in the world.

Under the promise of secrecy, Jonathan attempts to confirm his findings with several other biblical experts. But on the eve before his own murder, he tells Father Aiden O'Brien, a family friend, that a confidant he trusted is interested only in its monetary value.

The next evening Jonathan Lyons is found shot to death in his New Jersey home. His daughter, 28-year-old Mariah, finds her father’s body sprawled over his desk in his study, a fatal bullet wound in the back of his neck, and her mother, Kathleen, an Alzheimer’s victim, hiding in the study closet, incoherent and clutching the murder weapon. The police suspect that Kathleen, who in her lucid moments knows that Jonathan was involved with a much younger woman, has committed the murder.

But Mariah believes that the key to her father’s death is tied to another question: Where is the missing parchment? Whom, among his close circle of friends, might he have consulted? And did one of them kill to keep possession of the letter?

What Mariah doesn’t know is that there was an eyewitness to the murder, someone whose unwise attempt to blackmail the killer begins a new circle of death, with Mariah as the ultimate target of one person’s obsession with a priceless historical treasure.

With all the elements that have made her a worldwide bestseller, Mary Higgins Clark’s THE LOST YEARS is at once a breathless murder mystery and a hunt for what may be the most precious religious and archeological treasure of all time.
