If you want the caviar that dreams are made of since you're already reading Champagne Wishes, there's only one place to go and that's Petrossian.  Founded in Paris in 1920 as an overall brand, Petrossian has graced the historic landmark Alwyn Court Building at 182 West 58th Street since the restaurant began in 1984.  And you know we just love landmarks!  The

art deco style mirrored bar greets you when you arrive as well as the welcoming Rene Scarvella, who was a total peach, in addition to server Ignacio. Designed by Ion Oroveanu, the restaurant features Lalique crystal wall sconces, bronze sculptures from the 1930's, etched Erte mirrors, Limoges china, Lanvin chandelier and pink Finnish granite, all harmonizing to create a visual ambiance that can be savored equally with the unsurpassed gourmet experience so says their website, and we can personally verify that every letter in those words is true.

Petrossian was first featured in Tasty Tidbits:

We are pleased to announce it has joined the ranks of Peachy's Picks!
It's obvious gourmet cuisine, enchanting decor and fantastic service make it a destination for those worldwide who appreciate the finer things in life.
Peachy Deegan has of course had caviar before, but does not recall having pressed caviar, so that is what she ordered.  This concentrated paste was utter bliss and a total delicacy resting on halved roasted fingerling potatoes.  Joined by chives that added a fantastic dimension and creme fraiche that would put the fluffiest clouds to shame, this was one winner of a start.
You know Peachy often orders champagnes she's reviewed, so she tried the Ayala Rose to begin with-you remember we celebrated our 200th post in our alcohol column with that brand through our pal Xavier Flouret.  The rolls are among the best we have ever had and you absolutely should indulge in those as well when you begin your Petrossian experience.  The experience in itself is unparalleled as the total quality you absorb in all of your five senses is tremendous.  The only aspect missing was Alexandre Petrossian, but we do understand the importance of trips to France!

Making an entree selection at Petrossian is one of life's great decisions, because so many choices are promising.  After careful consideration, Peachy Deegan opted for the Pan Seared Diver Scallops joined by Morel Mushrooms, Duck Mousse, Asparagus Variation and highlighted by Caviar Transmontanus USA:
Peachy sipped a deep red
L de Laffitte Laujac from Medec to accompany her dinner and it was a well-balanced compliment to the masterpiece entree.  Not only is the entree museum-worthy in presentation, but every bite is as succulent and fresh as you'd imagine, and as exquisite of a dining experience as you'd ever have.  The grand finale of dessert was sensational and Peachy personally picked the chocolate ice cream, raspberry sorbet and blackberry sorbet.  Absolutely ideal for the heat wave, this dessert was on par with the best we've had along with the creme brulee and chocolate cake.

Our esteemed panelists comment:
Petrossian, a French-influenced contemporary restaurant in Midtown’s historic Alwyn Court Building, is a prime example of classic New York elegance. The stunning interior is spacious and has no shortage of art deco flare. We were promptly seated for what proved to be a decadent supper. Shortly after ordering, we were served some of the most delicious bread I’ve ever tasted in New York City. These perfectly crusted dinner rolls, made in Petrossian’s near by bakery, could have been Paris’s finest. We also ordered wine by the glass. The list is modestly priced – an earthy glass of L de Laffitte Laujac from Medec, for example, is $12.

For an appetizer, I ordered the salmon sampling. This generous plate, which is served with delicate toast points and crème fraîche, features four different smoked salmons and salmon roe. My favorite selection was the premier smoked salmon. After such a wonderful sampling of seafood, I opted for the pan roasted Long Island duck breast for an entrée.

In addition to the delicious sauerkraut, savory and sweet rhubarb compote, and honey brown sauce, the dish was also accompanied by a purée of salsify. It might have been my first time tasting this wonderful European member of the dandelion family that’s cream-colored root is reminiscent of a parsnip in both form and flavor. And for desert?

A delightful sampling of Gianduja chocolate cake, crème bruleé, and homemade ice cream and sorbet.

Dinner at Petrossian -- is evocative of champagne and the finest caviar and elegance. It is all that and more. The food is wonderful, beautifully presented and delicious. I began with the Petrossian Tasting which consists of four exquisite samplings: foie gras terrine, salmon and caviar beggar's purse, Transmontanus Caviar USA on mini blini and trout salad with trout caviar.

If you love caviar as I do, you are in heaven! To accompany my tasting, I chose a dry champagne, a glass of Domaine Cameros by Taittinger. For the main course I had Dover Sole Sole Meuniere, with green asparagus, saffron potatoes and a lemon caper brown butter sauce. The sole was accompanied by more Caviar Transmontanus USA.

The sole was gorgeous to behold, browned on the outside and butter soft inside. Delicious. For dinner I tried another champagne, a Rose Majeur Brut. For dessert I had creme brulee. The atmosphere contributed to the sensory experience -- the Lalique
crystal wall sconces, bronze sculptures from the 1930s Limoges china, etched Erte mirrors. and a Lanvin chandelier. A wonderful experience!

Peachy Picks Petrossian!

It is absolutely where you should go for caviar and pure luxury in dining!
