America’s Best Coffeehouse Eastern Region Setting the Field: Who Will be in the Top Twenty? Peachy Deegan Cannot Wait for March 7 – 9, 2013 When the Best Coffee In The World Comes To Spur On Manhattan!

Other than all the awesome LENOVO computers we use, the second most important thing to the functioning of Whom You Know is coffee, especially by any Thursday of the week...and one of the best tidbits of news today we got is this: The 2013 season of America’s Best Coffeehouse Competition and America’s Best Espresso Competition will debut at Coffee Fest New York, taking place March 7 – 9, 2013 at the Jacob Javits Center, so wake up New York and mark your calendar. Coffee Fest is currently accepting applications to compete in these competitions within the Eastern Region.

America's Best Coffeehouse Competition has been developed to determine and acknowledge the three best coffeehouses regionally in North America. All coffeehouses in the U.S. and Canada, individual units as well as chains may apply to compete. The competition is broken into three regions that will compete once per year.

The Coffee Fest New York semifinals & finals will serve the eastern states and eastern Canada, Coffee Fest Chicago will serve the central states and central Canada, and Coffee Fest Seattle will serve the western states and western Canada. The Eastern region includes Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Brunswick, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Nova Scotia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Quebec, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.

America’s Best Coffeehouse competition will select a maximum of twenty coffeehouse competitors within each region for preliminary field qualification. Based on a combination of public voting and secret shopper evaluation, eight semifinalist coffeehouse teams will be selected to compete on-site at Coffee Fest New York, March 7-9, 2013. After three days of competition the winner will be crowned eastern region America’s Best Coffeehouse.

America’s Best Coffeehouse Competition prizes are:

1st place $2,500 and an America’s Best Coffeehouse trophy
2nd place $1,000 and a second place plaque
3rd place $500 and a third place plaque
4th place through 8th place receive a semifinalist certificate

America’s Best Espresso Competition is broken down regionally in the same way and is the vehicle that will determine and acknowledge the three best coffee roasters in North America. All coffee roasters in the U.S. and Canada may apply to compete. A maximum of 32 coffee roasters will be chosen to compete.

America’s Best Espresso Competition is a head-to-head, bracket style competition in which competitors will showcase their espresso. A panel of carefully selected judges will evaluate one shot from each competitor based on the virtues of:


1)Flavor Complexity

2) Mouthfeel & Appeal

3) Aftertaste
