Manager Joey Filosa of Martin's Tavern, a total peach and an avid reader of Whom You Know! He tells us he likes the Katharine Hepburn quotes in Quotable Peachy. There are many...he holds the Champagne Cocktail!

If the weather outside is frightful, once you step inside Martin's Tavern, you'll find it delightful. If you ask us, any time of day, any day of the year is a great time to go to Martin's Tavern.  We really feel like we are missing out everytime they tweet how Billy's behind the bar shucking oysters (and we are in New York).  And for everyone gearing up for the Winter Classic in Washington this year, getting excited watching the Epix original series like our friend Mover and Shaker Russ Cohen who's headed down south and even penned a book on the Winter Classic that we reviewed, we have one thing to say to you as far as breakfast goes:

GO TO MARTIN'S TAVERN!  It is simply the best.

Russ please take your picture with Billy so we can publish it in Mover and Shaker picture of the week.
If Peachy didn't get around 1,000 emails a day, she might do breakfast in New York but for now we do breakfast with our Lenovo ThinkPad, which we love.  We really look forward to going out for breakfast when we are in another city, and we knew Martin's Tavern would be great since we've been before.  Peachy came armed with her WSJ from the Westin Georgetown.
Martin's Tavern was originally featured in Peachy's Picks:
Since they are so awesome, they were the first to be featured in Peachy Dines Al Fresco (outside of course) in their city:
We couldn't wait to open the menu for breakfast!
Martin's Tavern has breakfast seven days a week:  Manager Joey Filosa, who is a total peach, tells us that breakfast at Martin's Tavern is seven days a week from 11-4 Monday to Friday, 9 to 4 on Saturday and 8 to 4 on Sunday, all year with a menu change for breakfast seasonally three times a year.

John F. Kennedy often ate here after church on Sunday so you can channel your inner JFK while you feast on the tremendously delicious Eggs Benedict. (Traditional pictured above)
Peachy Deegan is not too pleasant before a massive caffeine infusion in the morning, and we're thrilled to say the coffee at Martin's Tavern is absolutely terrific.  It is strong enough for us and we do like super strong.
Thank God for coffee.
The breakfast menu at Martin's Tavern is outstanding, and as you can see from the above picture, Peachy was one of the first ones there-it wasn't too crowded yet.  We can tell you that once these eggs arrived every table around us was nearly drooling over what Peachy ordered and also ordered them.  Deciding which Eggs Benedict to try at Martin's Tavern is not easy, especially on your first visit.  We will return to try the Florentine Eggs Benedict, the Martin's House Benedict, and everything else that did not fit in our stomach yet.

We ordered Martin's Traditional Eggs Benedict: Split English muffin (and yes they do use Thomas's we asked.  Peachy is a huge huge huge English muffin fan and eats them almost every day and she only buys Thomas's) atop genuine shaved Smithfield ham, two poached eggs and house made hollandaise, served with seasonal fresh fruit and home fries.  It is to die for.

Oooooh they are so amazingly oozy!  We loved every bite of the Traditional Eggs Benedict.  The fruit cup boasted green and red grapes, pineapple and cantaloupe and was a nice healthy balance to the protein.  Once we started eating we noticed there was not an empty seat, not even at the bar.  Get there early!
Anyone Irish likes their potatoes especially, and you'll recall that Martin's Tavern was founded by Billy's great-grandfather and grandfather who came from County Galway.  The home fries are absolutely delicious with red and green pepper, thin onion slices and potatoes seared to perfection.
And they offer condiments of course.

The other breakfast item we ordered and totally loved was the Challah French Toast. You can have it with ham, applewood smoked bacon or sausage and we would have picked one of them if this was the only dish we tried.
The French Toast was just crisp enough to be ideally soft inside and was beautifully dusted with just enough powdered sugar.

Of course, you have butter, syrup and preserve options!  We loved the syrup.

You want to be one of the happy people in this picture eating breakfast!
Though we were offered a drink early on, Peachy decided she needed coffee and food to start, and would finish with one instead.  The Bloody Marys have a top-notch reputation, however we opted for the House Champagne with Hibiscus Flower.
What makes it pink:

The perfect touch to a wonderful breakfast!  Now you should be ready for the Winter Classic and Christmas shopping.

You definitely ought to try this during your breakfast.

Martin's Tavern of Georgetown for breakfast has earned our Highest Recommendation.

Established in 1933, Martin's Tavern is one of Washington DC’s most historic family-owned enterprises. For 80 years, Martin’s Tavern has been a renowned fixture in the mid-Atlantic and a must-visit establishment in historic Georgetown. In the late 1890's, William S. Martin traveled from Galway, Ireland to America. Forty years later, he and his son, William G. Martin, the current Billy's grandfather, opened Martin’s Tavern on the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and N Street NW which is run today by our friend, William A. Martin Jr. You can call him Billy! From sitting Presidents and media icons, to city residents and worldly travelers, Martin’s Tavern is a welcoming home to the many who have long embraced its warm atmosphere. Its quintessentially classic American fare has delighted discriminating palates for decades from the Oakwood Atlantic Smoked Salmon to the Filet Mignon to whatever your little heart desires from the convincing menu. Every President from Truman to George W. Bush has happily dined at Martin's Tavern, and you can see the delicious culinary choices preferred by each in our review: Martin's Tavern is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know:

The President’s favorite booths, The Proposal Booth of Jack and Jackie Kennedy, Mickey Mantle in The Dugout Room, George W. Bush and family at Table 12 are just a few of the iconic stories. Fourth generation owner Billy Martin, Jr. continues the tradition of Washington’s oldest family owned restaurant and Georgetown landmark.
