Were you too busy during the holiday season to watch all the fabulous Epix coverage on the NHL?  Have no fear, because one of the many beauties of this channel is that you can watch their programming WHENEVER your little heart desires.  In 2015, who has time to arrange their schedule around tv programming?  And if you're reading us, we think you quite possibly could have an insatiable appetite for watching hockey games.  We've caught up on all four episodes, and will be telling you about each.

The NHL Winter Classic Episode One was previously featured:

The kind of quality coverage found in this series with a myriad of background and insight into the real lives of the people behind the game is absolutely fascinating.  If this was not part of your real life, you probably would have absolutely been dying to know all that happens in past hockey decades, when stars had lives that were much more private.  We don't know of another series that has even broached the level of personal detail that Epix does here.  And, they aren't even known to be a sports-channel, per se.

In Episode 2, you will be delighted to eat ice cream with Alex Ovechkin (we applaud his enthusiasm for other Washington teams), see the family skate in Washington, and have exclusive footage in both locker rooms (Chicago and Washington).  We love the unedited reality of true locker room speak, akin to the Human Piranha character in Michael Lewis's Liar's Poker (you ought to read that if you have deprived yourself.)  In other words, this language is not endorsed by our Etiquette from Connecticut column...but it is part of the stress showing what is at stake in a win/lose situation.  Hockey is a business today more than any other period in its history.  "Nobody likes winning more than me!" says Joel Q, in justification of his word choice and his unsurpassed passion for the game.  If you really know Peachy, you may remember her Letters to the Editor published in the sports section of the Hartford Courant pleading with the Whalers organization to hire him as head coach when he was with the Springfield Indians....in any event, they did not listen and Joel has found immense success outside of Connecticut.

Locker room rituals are fun to see: check out the beard and hat, and see Lincoln come back to life in Washington.  The toughness of these players comes to the forefront if you don't realize it already; Patrick Sharp (Chicago) comes back from an injury.  Other challenges are shown like getting shipped off to the farm team, and how exactly you get 7,000 pounds of hockey equipment on the flight when you are the away team.  This is not all roses and sunshine and we like how the hard parts are shown too, and death is addressed in this episode as an equipment manager from Chicago passed away during this taping.

Life off the ice like card games on the plane are fun to see....and we would have liked to have seen more women commentators involved when interviewing/narration by Epix happens.

Previously on Whom You Know, Jonathan, Alex and Kevin were interviewed.
They will all be participating in this upcoming game!
Chicago Blackhawks
Jonathan Towes
Washington Capitals
Alex Ovechkin

Kevin Dineen, Peachy's favorite player of all time.

picked Kevin to help him coach. On the back of the hat is a Whalers patch with an arrow pointing towards it saying: "Strategy By".

As the holidays draw near, the Blackhawks and Capitals reflect on the life moments they can't get back, as we get an inside look into the precious time the coaches, team and staff spend with their families in this, the most hectic time of year. The Capitals go 20 rounds in the longest shoot out in NHL history and Ovechkin and teammates show support for the Washington Wizards at a home game. Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford returns to the lineup and the team deals with the sudden, tragic loss of a beloved member of their traveling family.
