Post-game commentary by Frank Lampard, Medhi Ballouchy, Josh Saunders, Chris Wingert, Khiry Shelton and David Villa:

Overall, this game was not representative of the amazing progress that NYCFC achieved as the season progressed.  The single goal scored by Villa on a free kick at the end impressed the crowd of 34,150, and the fans and supporters of NYCFC have made this a season to remember.  During the game, we saw laudable playmaking by Pirlo, Villa, Lampard, Wingert and McNamara and Frank Lampard was robbed in particular at 40 minutes when the ball hit the crossbar.

Coach Jason Kreis commented post-game to the press:
"The evolution of the team moving forward is that we know we need to get better. We know we need to strengthen in certain areas. There will be some change as there will be with any team. With a team that didn't make the playoffs, there's going to be a little more change than others. For me, there will be some improvement for the team just because of the time spent together.

There will be some change to the team because we won't be adding players in the summer: it will happen at the very beginning of preseason. There will be some improvement in the team by adding new players.

First and foremost the most positive thing about this club right now is our fans. The support that we have gotten all year long has been absolutely fantastic and I think puts the team automatically in a good place to succeed. If you have a loud supportive fan base that's there for you every game, it provides you with a great atmosphere to have the advantage at home.

We have three fantastic designated players on this team. We have some very exciting young talent to develop into which should be great, and we've identified a core group of players to stay here next year and build off of. In this league, it takes continuity.

We have two weeks off of training [now] and then we will have two weeks on of training. Because of collective bargaining, we're not allowed to train over Thanksgiving break and aren't allowed to train past that until six days before the match [in Puerto Rico]. Effectively, our schedule is two weeks off, two weeks training together, two weeks off where they will train on their own-a very regimented program to keep themselves fit-and then we will train in Puerto Rico leading up to the game.

[As a coach, I would assess my performance this season as: ] Difficult. I am definitely the kind of person that is [evaluating] first and foremost, myself. I know that were some areas that I should have and could have taken control of perhaps from Day One of Preseason. I don't think we did a good enough job of preparing the team during preseason. I think that that's part of having a new team-you have guys that have no idea of how you're training or what you want of them in training, and also it's having a brand new staff. It's the first time I've ever worked with our strength and conditioning coach. It's the first time I've worked with some of our other people on that side of things. From my point of view, there are some improvements and things I wish I had done differently of course. With the team failing to reach our own expectations, which were perhaps a little too burdensome, I look at myself first.

[When asked if he considered this season more of a success or failure:] More of a success. Absolutely. The club has to view what we were able to do in this last year as a very successful story. Now the team-we can also look at this and say: to finish the season with 37 points is quite good. To finish the season with ten wins is better than most expansion team: 4th best since the 2000s. I don't want to repeat it, but for me, that's a success."

What's the only thing better than the inaugural season? The second season! When the 2016 schedule is released, you will be the first to know and we will be counting down the days until the new season begins.

New York City Football Club has earned our Highest Recommendation and they are by far the best thing that has happened to New York City in 2015!

CHAMPIONS ARE MADE IN THE OFFSEASON.

Our coverage this season is dedicated to Peachy's Dad, who came to every game she played, took her to every game growing up and taught her that if she had nothing nice to say about someone, to say nothing at all.  He also pointed out the good news is found on the sports pages, and it is the most fun.

It is also dedicated to all of our friends from both Connecticut and also Boston College and University College Cork (Poc Off) who were subjects of our first professional stories and gave us the best exclusive interviews, and our new friends from NYCFC including everyone of the team off and on the field, Des Curran of Setanta Sports Ireland, Essie and Max, Mick and everyone at Ryan's Daughter, and of course everyone that ever hired us in this field including Missie Rennie, Joe Tessitore, Alan Miller, Don Larick, and Mike Rutstein.

NYCFC tells Whom You Know:

New York City FC fell to the New England Revolution 3-1 in front of 34,150 at Yankee Stadium.

Lee Nguyen, Charlie Davies and Kelyn Rowe scored for the Revs. New York City FC, which received a David Villa penalty kick goal in the first minute of second-half stoppage time, closed out its inaugural season with a record of 10-17-7.

Before conceding a second goal, NYCFC looked more likely to equalize. In the 10th minute, Villa set up Tommy McNamara with a nifty backheel, but the second-year midfielder rolled his shot wide of the far post.

In the 32nd minute, an unmarked Chris Wingert latched onto an RJ Allen cross, putting a downward header over the bar.

Five minutes later, Allen again connected with Wingert, who put a diving header on frame, but New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth made the save.

Late in the first half, two of New York City FC’s Designated Players nearly pulled their club a goal back.

In the 41st minute, Frank Lampard rattled the crossbar from 20 yards out and four minutes laterAndrea Pirlo nearly snuck a 29-yard free kick inside the near post, but Shuttleworth dove to his left to parry it away.

Moments after coming on for Andrew Jacobson, Patrick Mullins nearly scored for New York City FC, but Shuttleworth corralled after initially bobbling his attempt from the top of the 18-yard box in the 76th minute.

In the 89th minute, Pirlo set up for a free kick from 27 yards out, but put it just over the crossbar.

Villa converted a penalty kick – his 18th goal of the season, putting his attempt low and to the left after Daigo Kobayashi was called for a hand ball in the box.

New York City FC will face the Puerto Rican National Team in a post-season friendly match on Friday, December, 11 at the Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón. Get tickets.
