Archie Husband is 8 years old and is 75% Labrador and 25% Border Collie, with the border collie portion centered mainly in the brain region! A rescue dog with a bit of a chequered history, Archie now lives with his third family. He began life as a Christmas present puppy for an elderly lady in her 80's, however she was unable to take him out so his only experience of the outdoors was running out into the garden for life’s necessities. Archie was with her for eighteen months so during that time, he gained no experience of the outdoors nor was he socialized with other dogs. He was therefore terrified of both.

Later, Archie was taken on by a labrador rescue charity who placed him with a family with two young children. The family had the best intentions but the husband was in the army and spent a lot of his time in Iraq and Afghanistan. The wife had the two young children to look after and did not have the time to invest in rehabilitating Archie so he had another three and a half years either in the house or in kennels before going back to the rescue charity.

The third time was a charm, and when Archie was 5 years old, he fell in love with his new family. Since he was absolutely terrified of being outdoors and would be on his belly howling as soon as his new owners stepped out of the front door, Archie tried to attack any dog that came near because he was so frightened of them.  It took almost a year before he started turning the corner but his star new family persevered because they could see the wonderful dog inside the howling monster, just waiting to emerge.

Last summer, Archie visited a dog show organised by the labrador rescue charity and he won 3 rosettes including first place in the "dog the judges would most like to take home" category!! The three years that he has spent with his new family have been highly beneficial to his well being, and his twitter name is @archieofficedog because he walks to work with his owner and sits under his desk, after saying hello to everyone of course (and maybe signing autographs)!

Archie is now perfectly relaxed outdoors and loves other dogs. He comes everywhere with his human family, does agility training and this year Archie is making his debut across the English Channel to France for a holiday. His story is a prime example of showing how problem dogs can be turned around with lots of time, understanding , love and affection. We are so pleased to present Archie Husband as our latest interview in Peachy's Pet Pals! Peachy Deegan interviewed Archie for Whom You Know.

Peachy Deegan: What or who has had the most influence on your pursuit of excellence?
Archie Husband:
My new mummy has spent hours and hours helping me get over my fears but secretly I love my new daddy the most!

What are you proudest of and why?
I'm very proud of winning my 3 rosettes at the charity dog show - as you can see from the photo! Three years ago I was terrified to go outdoors and I couldn't be near other dogs. I would never have believed I could enter a dog show and win!

What is your favorite toy and why?
I have a giant kong that always seems to be full of an endless supply of treats!

We believe you live in England; what are you proudest of in your country’s heritage and what are your favorite spots to visit?
I live in the World Heritage City of Bath and I am proud to be seen out and about in the City and even in some of the pubs! My favourite places are out in the wilds where there is lots of water! I love going to the beach and barking at the seagulls.

What do you get in trouble for and why is that not fair?
I get in trouble every day when I bark at the postman - I'm only saying hello!

What do you love most about your new family?
My daddy! (Don't tell my mummy!)

What do you take your sense of identity from?
From the confidence I now have to go into the great outdoors without fear.

What is your favorite place to be?
Within three feet of my daddy!

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you at a cocktail party?
Last year I went to a Christmas party and I wore my Christmas pudding coat. I was hoping to get some turkey but someone said "I think the turkey is in the coat!"

Who would you like to be for a day and why?
I'd like to be a fish because they spend all day in the water!

What has been your best athletic experience?
Doing agility training!

If you could have dinner with any person or animal living or passed, who would it be and why?
I'd like to have dinner (al fresco) with my previous owners so they could see how I've been transformed - I'm sure they would be very pleased to see how happy I am now.

What has been your best art or music experience?
I like to walk in muddy puddles and create paw art masterpieces on the carpet when I get home - my mummy doesn't seem to like them much though!

What do you personally do or what have you done to give back to the world?
My mummy's brother's small children were very afraid of dogs - until they met me and I let them give me lots of cuddles and treats. It took them a while but they are now happy to meet other dogs and aren't afraid any more. I just love children!

Other than Peachy's Pet Pals of course, what is your favorite WhomYouKnow.com column and what do you like about it?
I like all the food columns - I am mainly labrador after all! I like to look at the photos - I can almost taste them.

What are you most looking forward to during your France holiday?
I'm allowed in all the restaurants in France which means I get to be with my mummy and daddy even more and I sometimes get treats!

Have you started to learn French and if so what are your favorite words?
Petit dejeuner, dejeuner, dîner !

What do you like to do at the office?
I like to say hello to everyone and see who can give me the most cuddles.
Then I sleep under my Daddy's desk.

Are you good at making coffee in the morning and do you open a bar for cocktails at 5pm for your co-workers?
I don't make coffee or cocktails but I make everyone smile.

What else should Whom You Know readers know about you?
I like to sleep a lot - usually on my back with my legs in the air.

How would you like to be contacted by Whom You Know readers?
My twitter account is @archieofficedog
