MOVERS AND SHAKERS: Andrea Tese, Fine Art and Fashion Photographer and Winner of the Young Innovative Award by the National Arts Club

Andrea Tese is a fine art and fashion photographer whose debut solo exhibition titled “Boats Against the Current” appeared at the Heist Gallery located in New York City in 2009. Her photography has also appeared in group exhibitions at Conner Contemporary Art and the Georgetown University Art Gallery in Washington, DC and the Visual Arts Gallery in New York City.

Tese captures the transience of a moment and subsequently creates a narrative for even the most prosaic of instances. Rather than portraying an event, Tese waits a second until the subject has stopped smiling or posing, or she has stopped plotting and framing and captures something real, leaving the viewer with a more interpretive and mysterious version of the story. Often exploring themes such as impermanence and even mortality, her work has a fresh and inspiring perspective, cleverly combining subtlety and provocation.

Tese’s fine art photography is owned by the Sandor Photography Collection and the Johnson Museum Collection at Cornell University, and has also been featured in industry publications such as disTRIBUTE (the web gallery created by American Photography) Phillips du Pury’s phillipsartexpert.com and The Visual Arts Journal.

Tese’s fashion photography has been featured in T: The New York Times’ Style Magazine, RG Brazilian Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar Russia. In May 2009 Tese was presented with the Young Innovative Award by the National Arts Club, as well as the Gold Medal award, the highest honor bestowed by the club. Whom You Know's Peachy Deegan met Andrea then and we covered the event:
